Hey everybody, I'm looking to start a new army (not as any sort of distraction from Skaven, just as a way to move up in the world of Warhammer I suppose.) In the past, I have purchased and created the following models, usually with disastorous resutls Chaos Warriors (Heavily converted to form a later Dogs of War list that proved inneffective) Orc Boyz (Back with the old army book, which I still have, also scrapped to form my DoW list) Savage Orc Boyz (Hidden somewhere, but since they're once piece they're all painted and somewhere) Empire bitz (Enough to make 20 pikemen which, again, proved inneffectual, and are therefore lying in random bitz boxes) 10 Horrors (Which are all somewhere, but I'm not sure. I'll most likely sell these to my friend James) Here are the armies I most often face: High Elves (owned by my friend James) Dark Elves (James again) Vampire Counts (good buddy Brett) Dwarves (also Brett) Brettonians (Brett, though I haven't fought them in a while) Hordes of Chaos (With some beasts mixed in, and often using varying marks except for Nurgle) Empire (I have yet to play these, but they are owned by one of Bretts friends and I include them out of my desire to not play an army that someone else uses unless it's got a sweet theme) Tomb Kings (Old friend Oliver that I haven't played in quite a while) Wood Elves (Oliver again) I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has any ideas, armies they've found to be fun, any army that you NEVER see anyone using, an army that offers a lot of options for themes (I sort of consider an undead army but Brett argues against it; I'd like to do something like Undead Brettonians, or Undead chaos or something) or just any advice you have! Thanks everyone! |

If you consider Vamps... you could make a Sylvanian army (Empire) or a Brettonnian army from cursed Mousillon. Both are very good themeable. As an alternative u could do an Asian-styled Ogre army?? Just my two pieces of warpstone... |

I think a good army choice right off the bat that I never ever see is a literal Dogs of War army... it offers a little bit of everything IMO and can form up an army in any way you wish, not to mention Tilea is always a cool area to be in... but that's just my opinion, it's the army that is the most open for fluff... heck you can make a Marienburg army that is always a good idea!-Jean- |

I tried a dogs of war army but I may return to it at some point, I'm not really sure. I like a lot of the units and I feel like I could definitely get into it a lot more than I did originally by including a lot of different types of soldiers (aka, in a heavy cavalry unit having some Cold One Knights, some Imperial Knights, all that kind of good stuff) I also feel like it gives a lot of options of what you can do with your army in terms of diversity. Thanks for the advice! also, does anyone think that undead in a Dogs of War empire (in a non Cursed Company unit) would be allowed? I mean could I say that one of my wizards is a necromancer (counts as a regular DoW wizard of course) that leads some units of undead he has raised? thanks again |

i have a friend who plays zombie pirates using the rules that were published a while back in white dwarf, i think that they are really cool, give a lot of choice for converting and you can use models from any range as zombies. he converted a box of zombies with a box of men at arms and they came out looking really cool. i have had great fun playing them, you get silly things like zombies with pistols and the dreaded WS 3 zombies of undyingness (sorry little caried away there) VC are good - im currently doing a lahmia list based on the three brides of dracula with all my modes being female where ever possible... i.e my 3 main characters are female, im using 3 witch elves on a base as spirit host.. the rules may change for them next year but i think my list will stand up more or less ok with minor changes. if you want me to get the issue number of the WD for the pirates from my friend message me. |

Daniel cannot possibly exist in a dimensional state. Recent studies show that people who have attempted to comprehend Daniel have either disappeared, died spontaneously, or driven themselves into a pertinent state of insanity and/or catatonia. <img src="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/adoptables/23041.gif" alt="Broken Adoptable Image" /><br><a href="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/levelup/23041-dark-whisper.htm" title="Level up this Daemon!">Level up Adoptable!</a> | |

Thank you for the advice--I'm not much up for zombies though. if I was to do VC it would most likely be something like Vampire Dark Elves or something, that way it would really be 2 armies in one thank you very much for the reply though! |

Brain: There's only one ride that interests me - the incredible thrill ride of taking over the world! Pinky: Mmm, I think there's a height requirement for that ride.

My first and favorite army is DOW Versatility is the name of the game. I've got halfling archers, Slayer Pirates, Volands Venators (heavy cav), Asarnil the Dragon Lord, converted pikemen (empire spearmen), Oglah Khan's wolf riders, a general on pegasus, wizard on flying carpet (peg), Kislevite Cavalry(med cav), Mengil's Manflayers (uber shades), Marksmen of Marigliano (deadliest crosbowmen ever!), Malakai Makaison's Goblin Hewer, and even a giant. Hell, i probably forgot something. My second army is a completely converted 2500K Samurai Ogre Kingdoms army (they look awesome! But I've always wanted a Skaven Horde! So the first unit I made was a unit of Skaven pikemen (count as Leopold's Leopard Company) based on plague monks with their staves modified with skaven spearheads. After my ogres, I became a conversion junky. Now almost every one of my 268 skaven are converted in one way or another (this army will take a while to get going...). Anyway, MSU ogres are a real challenge and quite different than skaven in almost every way. DoW are complete fun, and have some great models and conversion potential! |

Well thank you for the kind points! the versatility definitely appeals to me, but I have a lot of people tell me that DoW just become unfair since they have no downside--also, as cool as my pikemen look, they oftentimes do very little for their points value. Right now I'm toying with the idea of an empire army with Rugluds Armored Orcs, maybe even some Oglah Kahn's wolf boyz or an Orc army with some DoW within it thank you again for the kind points and best of luck with your army! |
