I have been playing with a assassins lately and in one of the games my unit of gutter runners with him in it were fleeing and they were never going to be able to rally so we just took them off the board as they werent going to affect anything. after the game i had a thought. if i was to hit the unit with warplightning and kill the remaining gutter runners would my assassin then be able to rally? if so would this be a valid tactic if he is not close enough to skitter leap out of the unit? |

Daniel cannot possibly exist in a dimensional state. Recent studies show that people who have attempted to comprehend Daniel have either disappeared, died spontaneously, or driven themselves into a pertinent state of insanity and/or catatonia. <img src="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/adoptables/23041.gif" alt="Broken Adoptable Image" /><br><a href="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/levelup/23041-dark-whisper.htm" title="Level up this Daemon!">Level up Adoptable!</a> | |

If your assassin runs, he have a reason. And will rally rolling his Ld or less, no matter whether his company is killed. So putting him in a unit has disadvantages. Why not just let him follow the unit, thus screened but without actually joining. He might be able to flank too then. If he is hidden, then that's a chance you take. AND you have to roll the Ld of the unit, if he is not revealed. |

If he's following the unit he can't see through it. This means he can't charge if they're in the way, keep that in mind.

You can't shoot your gutterrunners to try to help your assassin rally; reason: if they're running then they are not in combat, and if they are not in combat then you can't shoot at them. Life is Cheap only allows shooting at enemy in contact with friendlies, NOT direct shooting at friendlies. [exception is WLC which can shoot at whatever you so desire...] |

WLC it is then.. which clould work out better for me as then if im careful i can completely miss the assassin. i must point out though that this is one of those random thoughts that may get tried out once in a blew moon as i dont like putting my assassin in the same place twice in a row or do i?? it is nice however to have a plan in the back of my mind to rescue him if i was to ever need to... all of the other options of putting him to the side or behind other units are valid and make it into my mix of options i use. one thing though... i recently deployed one into the middle of some woods half way up the table where he stayed for a couple of turns.. some night runners got up near him and the followed by the side to shoot lots of gouls.. my opponet then charged the night runners who did what any skaven would do, they ran leaving the assassin holding his own. my opponent assumed that as he was next to the unit that he was with them although i never said that he had joined them. i talked him through the previous movements of the assassin and the rest of the troops in that area but he still felt cheated. thankfully the game was decided on the other end of the board.. was he right to feel cheated?... it has been bugging me quite a bit |

Seems like you played reasonably, I can see how he could have been a bit confused, but as long as you did not state the assassin had joined the unit or imply that he did, there was no error on your part. |
