Has anyone noticed that at times GW dosnt even kniow it's own rules?

Lmao, yes... and sometimes they don't even understand the true purpose of rules. The best example of this off the top of my head is when we moved to 7th edition and a full rank had to be at least 5 models wide. Now, before that, it was a minimum of 4 models wide, so, in the Beastman armybook they had a rule for their herds that, if the enemy unit they are facing is less than 4 models wide, the herd will still rank up 4 models wide so it will gain its rank bonus(es) (if any). Now, with 7th edition, in the errata, they said that they beastman herds will still only rank up 4 models wide if the enemy doesn't have a frontage of 4 or more and will thus lose their rank bonus for 4 being only 4 models wide ... heck, I'm not even a beastman player and this bugs me. The moron going over that errata didn't even realize that it should be changed to 5 so as to continue on with the purpose of that rule ... the herds keeping their rank bonus despite the frontage of the enemy unit.

they listed eight/ nine models on a page that as such had a huge amount of white-space, which in my opinion is a BIG (if not: HUUUUUUGE) no-no for magazines... I mean, open up a random advertising piece and you see articles pushed together, in order to fit as much as possible on one page.

Gotta disagree with you there. White space is not a no-no, but I agree that they don't always use the space wisely. Magazines are a balancing act between content and visual style. You can forsake content completely for visual style, or vice versa. I am of the opinion White Dwarf is leaning towards the first of the two. They obviously have some talented layout designers and pre-press people working on this, but in they end, they do end up putting together what is in effect a bloated catalogue.

I do understand the problems they face though. Given that most relevant content that appears in magazines shows up on the web first, way before the magazines are published, it can be difficult to fill a magazine. However, given that White Dwarf focuses soley on GW products, that are controlled soley by GW, and GW really operates on an insular sphere (no real outside involvement or competition on their market) then you wonder why it would be so hard to include content that hasn't been seen before, and is interesting.

Basically, I really think the editorial side of White Dwarf has gotten lazy, or has just all out been replaced by what is essentially sales people.

I don't expect much from White Dwarf anymore, but I'll continue to subscribe. For some reason, I like to look at the pictures, even if it is "BUY THIS GIANT!" on every single page. There is a visual aspect of the hobby that is reinforced through this process--as my girlfriend says, it's my nerd porn.

If I want content and tactical advice, I'll hit up the online forums. It is much more personal that way.

The biggest disappointment is the Battle Reports. So lame... They've condensed them into nothingness. Heck, they don't even go turn-by-turn anymore! I don't have a problem with the fact that the "Army of the Month" always wins, or that those playing the game make obvious tactical errors; they are just trying to tell a story through the game, after all. The reports are not meant to be cover competitive games, because those can be very boring to play, let alone read. However, I don't like the fact that they don't seem to put much effort into the reports anymore. I want fluff followed by play-by-play reporting, dammit!

And would it be too much to ask for another "Tale of Four Gamers?" I mean, really...

I see lead people
I bought a WD that had 2 free minis with it (Sept 2006 issue) and that's one of the reasons I bought it, because I was buying the Skull Pass box also. After reading it I was not really impressed with the overall magazine, so I never bought another one. I looked through some on the shelf but like was mentioned above, just too much 40K, (which I couldn't care less about) and I get more tactics tips from internet websites than the magazine. For pictures, again the internet wins with wicked conversions, interresting homemade scratchbuilds and inspiring, sometimes spirit-crushing, paintjobs.

Seems to me that the hobby market is ready for a good magazine that won't constantly biase towards one genre. Let me know if anyone finds one.

Yeah, i really miss "tale of four gamers" too, but the one I lament the MOST about them taking away was Olde Wierd's Incubum. You know, the column about the historical battles that took place in the old world and such.

God I miss that column.
You kids these days have it so easy, what with your Plague Furnaces and your Hellpit Abominations and your Bonebreaker Warlords. Back in MY day, all we had was Slaves and Clanrats!...and auto-hit Ratling Guns...and skirmishing Jezzails...and 2D6 Warp Lightning...and Lead From The Back...wait, what was my arguement again?

*ponders*...

A fair enough point. I have to correct my post then and say that the way White Dwarf uses white-space is not the right way to do so in more then a few cases. (Such as, the Redemptionist mob, etc.).

Anywho, on topic here is a topic i made a while ago simmular to this saying why i stopped buying the over-priced catalauge of doom. Who ever taught the writers of White Dwarf how to copy and paste should think about what they've done to the magazine

To be honest some of the online articles being produced on thier website are pretty damn useless to like "How to aseemble our new high elf mage" First of all you glue the arm to the torso. it doesn't tell you anything the side of the box or the slightest bit of intellegance tells you

Reading those kind of artcles i can't help but shout out "well duuh!" I wonders how many people the article has stopped from gluing the arm in a compeltely wrong place
