Hello, we've finally reached the end of our escalation league, and I'm considering bringing a warlock engineer. I have 555pts to spend due to the various victories I've had. So far my force is looking something like this: 2x Clanrats blocks 2x Slave blocks RatlingPlague Monks block I've made some tweaks to it along the way, i.e. using giant rats, and an considering swapping out the ratling to try the warpfire. Anyhow, back to the topic though, I was hoping to get some advice on what gear/options to buy for the engineer. Thanks! |

Everything but a pistol. Ans either give him 2 scroll, or the storm demon and scroll. But they work best in pairs. Vermin lord Skreek |

For such a small game, I would recommed AGAINST 2 engineers. However, 1 should be fine. It depends on what you want him to do. Obviously, you should buy him warp blades and the upgraded warp energy condenser (forget the supercharged warp power accumulator, as generating an extra magic dice isnt worth it for only having 1 wizard, as you'll get 3 a turn anyway). If you want to be a defensive wizard, maybe buy a scroll or 2. if you wanna be more aggressive, maybe the tenebrous cloak and death globes (having a character with a 3+ ward vs shooting who can throw a template weapon is very nasty is small games). A tricksy wizard with the warp scroll bound item is also an option. Personally, I like to field a compromise of both aggression and self preservation. My wizard usually takes the storm daemon and warpstone amulet, so he can zap people as much as he likes, but has a modicom of safety from zapping himself (and being zapped by others). I hope that was helpful! |
| You kids these days have it so easy, what with your Plague Furnaces and your Hellpit Abominations and your Bonebreaker Warlords. Back in MY day, all we had was Slaves and Clanrats!...and auto-hit Ratling Guns...and skirmishing Jezzails...and 2D6 Warp Lightning...and Lead From The Back...wait, what was my arguement again? | |

Thanks for your tips!! Only the empire remains in the league, and he's just been bringing a level1 wizard, and I don't think he'll be upgrading him. Sorry for the lame question, but I'm not understanding the Storm Daemon, don't you already get that spell with the blades? |

Yes, but Storm Daemon allows you to use the spell twice. Once from the Engineer and once from the Bound item, so its well worth taking! As for equiping Engineers in such small games, my usual setup for 500pts is a Chieftain, 2 Clanrat Blocks, 2 Slave blocks and the Engineer w. warp blades and the upgraded warp energy condenser and Storm Daemon. Dispel Scrolls are generally not necessary for 500pt games, but Storm Daemon allows your Magic Phase to be nice and hurty to the enemy! - Sammy |

Wouldn´t you protect your warlock vs bad dice rolls with some kind of amulet? In a 6 turn battle, asuming you´ll cast warplightning every turn you´ll throw 2X6 dices to damage. I wouldn´t be surprised if I threw twice 1 to hit in 12 dices. If this happened a large amount of points would be lost without the enemy doing nothing. And what´s more, imagine having both 1s in the first turns of battle!!!! Cheers |

Good protection: tenebrious cloak (3+ save vs rolling one on amount of warplightning hit) Better protection: Warpstone charm! (allows reroll of one dice, use it on the "1" for warplightning hits and it's a 2+ chance of atleast 2 hits on the enemy instead of 1 on your warlock!) Dispel scrolls are for elves and humans (read: pansies) Take more tokens for your engineer, if anything.

you dont need full kit for the we - the super charged warp power accumulator that gives the extra power dice is unneeded if you are only fielding 1 WE as you get two dice for existing and one for him which makes the three dice he can cast with. i tend to give mine the allows extra dice for casting upgrade, warp blades, warpstone ammulet and death globes |

Daniel cannot possibly exist in a dimensional state. Recent studies show that people who have attempted to comprehend Daniel have either disappeared, died spontaneously, or driven themselves into a pertinent state of insanity and/or catatonia. <img src="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/adoptables/23041.gif" alt="Broken Adoptable Image" /><br><a href="http://www.heresy-online.net/daemons/levelup/23041-dark-whisper.htm" title="Level up this Daemon!">Level up Adoptable!</a> | |

I just noticed something while flipping through my army-book last night. Why doesn't anyone use Death Globes? It seems like a great way to spend 20 pts if you already have two dispell scrolls. For example, I usually field two WE. I could field one with DP and Stormdeamon and the other with DP and Death Globes, but I never see it used and I've never thought of using it myself ![]() It seems like a perfect use in an army with a Grey Seer where he can skitterleap the Death Globe-totting WE behind my enemies ranks to marchblock and choke some expensive models. Wops, seems like bakfire is a step ahead of me

Isn't the range on a death globe kind of low and that puts the WE in danger of getting too close to being charged? |

Brain: There's only one ride that interests me - the incredible thrill ride of taking over the world! Pinky: Mmm, I think there's a height requirement for that ride.
|
thats why you normaly skitterleap him behind a unit so he cant be charged but throw the globe. |
