Pants are for the weak!
|
After having a simmular discussion with both Mork and Stinky on two serperate occasions i've decided to make a poll about this topic and see what the other members of the underempire think. Remember that 1000 point model with Gortex, Bugman and The Whitedwarf that was released to celibrate 30 years of Gamesworkshop? Now imagine that one model (well, three models :S ) against the same points of clanrats (no upgrades). Who would win? 200 Clrants or those 3 Dwarves Mutate: Damn Typos, my arch nemesis |

Unfortunately, the Dwarfs. Their sheer-killiness will overcome the ranks and numbers offered by the Clannies, and neither will will run, but the Dwarfs will kill all the ratties... eventually. Pillz |

Well, the Clanrats would get a few wounds through eventually from the number of attacks. I say the Clannies |

Well, assuming they don't have spears, 'tis only 6 attacks with a champion... and they hit on a 5+, so only 2 of those will hit, and then they wound on a 5+, so maybe one will wound, and then the ridiculous saves? I highly doubt it.... ![]() Pillz |

Deathmaster Snikch. You can't even vote for him, because he's THAT sneaky. ANd yes, I have belief in a 500-point model thumping 1000 points worth. They're only three dwarfs, after all... Stronger, faster, killier... Weeping Blades just need to nick one dwarf twice, and that dwarf is almost guaranteed to fall. |

Clanrat

Split the clanrats in different units, then attack flank and rear. 3 ranks, outnumbering (1), banner (1), flank (1) , rear (2) --> 8 CR (9 if the clanrats have higher ground) If the dwarfs kill less than 8 each round, the clanrats might be able to pull it of. Very difficult to wound the dwarfs though... |

Guys, this is assuming the Clanrats have no upgrades, so no command groups. 200 Clanrats is worth 1000 points, so there would be no points for upgrades. So like this, I say the Clanrats would die. But drop a few and grab a few banners and musicians and split them into numerous 30-40 strong squads then the Clanrats would probably win through static combat res alone. But as it stands, the Dwarfs would win. - Sammy |

Let's asume that the dwarves have a 3+ armour save and a 4+ ward save. Then, asuming your clanrats would need to roll a 5+ to hit and a 6+ to wound, then 200 clanrats would statistically produce 1 wound on average (if they all get 1 attack). Seeing as the difference between a clanrat and a slave is the lower WS, the choosing clanrats over slaves wouldn't really matter in this case and so having 500 slaves would only cause roughly 1 additional wound. Even if the dwarf trio doesn't manage to kill as many slaves as surround them every turn, I could make a rough estimate that the skaven get 650 attacks instead of just 1 each. At that point we'd make 3 wounds. These statistics might change drastically if the clanrats would be equiped with spears or if we take combat res in account. But I bet those dwarves probably count as being unbreakable though and it would just mean that every once in a while the skaven would have to flee .In short... my warpstone tokens are on the dwarves <_< . |

This is with no upgrades on the clanrats, or command groups. Just sheer number against ultimate charecter. So no spears, banners for combat res, champions for extra attack, just whether the sheer killiness of the dwarves beats the overwhelming numbers of skaven |

Quiet, I'm plotting.

i have to go with 200 clanrats. Fluff wise, 200 clanrats would be nothing. In an actual Warhammer battle, I would put my money on the 200 clanrats. Assuming they can be split into more than one regiment, they can scatter all over the board, outrunning the White Dwarf and capturing table quarters. That will hopefully secure them a minor victory. |

I voted for the White Dwarf, thinking of the White Dwarf, not the White Dwarf + Joseph Bugman + Gotrex Toughnametoremember. For sake of continuity, I guess my vote for the White Dwarf holds true, I still think he'd win. Forget about combat resolution, the guy is unbreakable. Forget about wounding the guy, he has really thick armour (the 1+/4+ ward kind of thinkness) and there's a 33% chance he'll restore all wounds lost at the start of a turn. Playing by the normal rules, the White Dwarf would win. Mebob, this argument is too vague. Are you trying to win by killing the White Dwarf, or trying to win by playing Warhammer? Clanlord Thrask is right, you could just capture table quarters and secure victory like that, but you could never kill the White Dwarf. OR! Can we play a skirmish battle instead of a normal one? Whenever you roll 6s to wound you ignore armour saves and inflict 2 wounds instead of 1! A skirmish would be really fun, the Skaven might stand a chance! |

*chuckles*... Oh poo, why isn't six doomwheels an option? Racing around the model, staying out of charge range, while blasting him with warp-lightning. Perhaps stuff will blow up, but hey, at least it's more fun then seeing a trio of Dwarves chopping their way through Skaven. Greetz P.S.: I honestly thought it was about the magazine when reading the title of the topic...
