Black and White again
Hullo y'all, just today I managed to obtain in an online auction a one and only Verminlord, and I'm now wondering what to do with it. It seems to me that a LD9 Skaven general will be an absolutely brilliant addition to my army, and I'm wondering if anyone else has used him and how effective he has been. So share your stories and strategies of the humble verminlord. Help a ratman out?

At my hobby shop I am probably the biggest fan of the Verminlord over the Grey Seer.

Why?

Because of his leadership. Pure and simple. I give him heavy armour, a shield, and a great weapon/Halberd and put him in my line of 6 clanrat units (I play super horde) and just watch. This gives the line Leadership 10 (since he is Ld 7 and I got the ranks) and then I always match him with a chieftain BSB so that become rerollable for my line in combat.

Works BEAUTIFULLY. He's only 99 points or so with that construction and Ld 10 wall is literally made of bricks.

i think you got vermin lord mixed up with warlord...

verminlord = big rat greater daemon. can't fly but moves damn quickly

warlord = a slightly bigger rat than normal but with better equipment.

not to mention the pts difference of like 650pts vs 100pts :P

i've never used a verminlord, but intend on getting a keeper of secrets for my slaanesh army at some point, which is the same sorta thing as a vermin lord (terror, large target, fast but can't fly, lvl 4 caster, decent in combat...) only more naked chick (FW one is anyway) and less goat-rat. so i'm also interested in any advice people have on them ^_^

...You know, I can't really recall any sort of tactics thread on the guy :o
I personally don't have any experiance with him but if I had one I would be probebly go all out and get some a Bell, Doomwheel and some Giants as well, being the only Large target he would be a literal magnet for anything shooty. Beyond that he'd be pretty bitchin' wherever he is; keep him back as a devistating Magic caster or charge him forward to tear appart troops, hell with his leadership the way it is he could even just stand back and hold the line and he still wouldn't be going to waste.
The only thing is that you'd have the least hordy Skaven army of all time :P

But a good place to check out would be a Chaos forum to see how they use their Daemons, like Caz said it's a lot like the Keeper of Secrets, except with a nasty Doom Glave and ratty magic instead of hornyness...er...you know what I mean.

Mutate: Damn, now I want to build that army :(

Shennanigans are out of the question!
Yeah. They are essentially a cross between the CC of a Greater Daemon of Khorne (without flight) and the spellcasting of the Grey Seer.

I saw them used a few editions ago which is why I'm building my skavens now.

I got all inspired at the Forge World greater demons and thought my Verminlord was a bit small..... check this out...

He is brilliant, believe me. Though I'm pretty sure you're wrong Nurglitch, he's not a large target, which makes him mighty useful Dev. He casts as well as a seer, fights better than a warlord and has better army-wide effects than a bsb. He's got a statline to equal some of the nastiest monsters out there, and if he gets pestilent breathe and vermintide for spells, then he can almost literally take on a unit of anything by himself (I used him once, because the game was so big, a 6,000pt a side game, it took forever and we had to stop the game early, he hadn't done too much by that point, so I charged him into a fully ranked unit of dwarf warriors to see what he could do, fluffed on his attacks and failed his instability check :()

My favourite tactic was lining up a unit of slaves in front of my army with him 6" behind them so they were immune to psych, it was sort of beautiful :P.

Thanks! I'll do that as soon as I can take a few photos.

I've never actually played Warhammer yet (I still play Kid's Rules.. AKA 40k), but I just spent 6 hours today priming, trimming, and assembling my battalion, 2 clanrat regiments, and a box of night runners...

So there's alot to chronicle, and at least another battalion to go!

Bunny ear says flop

The Vermin Lord (under RH rules) used to be one of the most devastating forces my opponent would face on the table. Even while it was always running on its own, the sheer combination of sheer hitting power and spells (flaming sword of rhuin your way through a VC army never seizes to bore you) meant that it was simply a one-rat army... Although not as powerful as the Chaos Daemons, still one of the better choices to have.

Instability + daemonic aura, in combination with a 600 pts cost means it's not something I'd take in battles under 3k in size...

Oop, sorry I can't actually access the rules at work so I was going off of memory :P
Even better then, hell stick him in a big unit of Stormvermin and he'll be almost untouchable.
