How do you deal with a Steam Tank?

Well, the title says all.

I´m playing a league of mini tourneys and in the last one an empire player had a steam tank. I was terrified as nothing in my army could even scratch that monster. I didn´t play against him but i suppose this is something every skaven general should have thought.....

Cheers

PWGs are excellent for this. High toughness? No thanks, I'll roll a 4+ to wound. It keeps moving? So do they, while shooting for no penalty. Lots of armor? Sorry, no armor saves allowed.

Some also like to use WLC or Jezzails. Our other stuff can but are less likely to do much to the steam tank.

Also, rather than trying to kill it, you could always just tie it up. Take your slaves (a unit or two) and just tie it up ... you'll be using about 1/2 the pts (if even that) of the Steam Tank to keep it blocked all game, making it a rather wasted investment, imo. This is a common tactic and works quite well. Just kill everything else when doing this ... it's all easier to kill than the Steam Tank.

Also, the more wounds you inflict on the steam tank, the less reliable it becomes. So taking it to 1/2 health isn't bad either, you get 1/2 the VPs and you've essentially crippled it into an armored rock.

PWG all the way.

The first time I played against the new STank, I didn't really know the rules. When I asked him the rules, he told me that ANY attack without a strength value couldn't hurt it.

Needless to say, I gave up after 2 turns.

Once I found out that my 8 censor bearers and 9 PWG's could probably take out one of the 2 Stanks on their own, I was pissed.

Other things were going on that game anyway that made me give up.
-He had 4 units of outriders w/ hocklands (96 S4 shots + 4 hockland shots.)
-He had 3 empire wizards with heavens
-Comet went off twice in each of the first 2 turns.
-My WLC rolled S2 both turns.
-NOT A FUN GAME...

My rematch should at least make for a competitive game.

I have just read somewhere in the forum that when using brass orb vs the tank 1 hit means 1 kill???

Is this possible?

What rules apply when throwing the orb? May be i´m old fashioned but in my rulebook says that its thrown exactly as a poison wind. It means 1/6 chances to destroy the tank with the assasin? If this is correct i am very close to mad laughin... jeejejeje jejejeje JEEEJEJEJEJE  JUAS JUAS JUAS!!!!

¿where can i find the rules, both for the steam tank and the brass orb where it says the tank is destroyed?

cheers

The rules for the steam tank are in the empire armybook, the rules for the brass orb are in ours. The rules for stone throwers, which is how you throw the brass orb, are in the warhammer rulebook. It's in the chapter on war machines.

And yes, with the brass orb it is one hit, one kill; the steamtank automatically fails any initiative tests it has to take.

Actually, that was back when the steam tank was treated somewhat like a castle wall and took "points of damage" ... nowadays it uses the initiative rules ... something many empire players complain about as they "spent so many points on it while the brass orb is only 50 pts" ... I say "tough... same thing happens to chariots with S7 hits"
