for my AS level art project, i need to do a personal project, which is covered, and then the coursework is about natural forms. i'm basically taking natural forms off into a tangent of doing fantasy art (like fantasy human/humanoid forms). because plants and the like bore me, and i did a lot of portraiture an stuff last year an got bored of it towards the end.

i need to look at a couple of fantasy artists, but i don't actually know of any. i tried googling it, but what i could really do with is with some names to search for, and pull images or ideas out like that.

so i figured i'd ask if any of you knew of some sickage fantasy artists, any style will do really, and it doesn't have to be warhammer related at all.

Check out H R Giger.
He is the Swiss artist that created the creature from the Alien film franchise.

Absolutely mental, but very impressive.
If you like that sort of thing.......

Wish I could plot like you can, you must have a mind like a corkscrew to turn all those scheming corners

I know this site
http://www.horned-rat.poce.cz/
used to have all the warhammer artwork from 5th and 6th edition. But he deleted all that recently. Now, I know of a website that lets you see the old version of websites, but I don't recall the name. THAT would be great!

On a side-note, have you tried deviantart? just look for drawings of some fantasy stuff and you'll get to see some impressive galleries!

If we're going for "natural forms", definitely those people morgoth just suggested. They do realism, with a fantasy/sci-fi setting. I'm guessing we can't stray too far from the coursework topic.

Well I like that Ursula Vernon one but her art kinda stretches the boundries of 'realism' and tends to be a little more cartoony, not sure if that's what your looking for.

John Howe. Did a lot of the illustrations for various publications of Lord of the Rings, was one of the two artists who did the majority of art direction for the Lord of the Rings movies, does a lot of commission work for book covers and the like. And lots of personal paintings, too. He's quite awesome. :P

wow, thanks guys :D

this is more than enough to look through and experiment with, it seems the tricky part will be getting girls at colledge to pose so i can photograph them an then draw from them, fantasyfying it lol :P

It helps if you don't require them to pose in the Boris Vallejo style. ;) If live models aren't required, you could reference magazine shoots and random photos instead, i suppose.
