If you aren't enjoying it Vins, take a break. I don't advocate selling off all your minis and whatnot, but put them quietly away somewhere. I took a four or five year break a while back. As a human being, your allowed to change your interests, redirect your energies, sow new seeds. But absence does make the heart grow fonder, and it is quite possible that the Horned Rat will call you back in time. |

Yeah, I'll pipe in with the same advice. Take a break, and keep your models. I found my interest in the rigmarole of playing to be diminishing a year or two ago, but I was still very much into painting. Not painting giant units, but rather single figures. Things that catch the imagination rather than test the endurance. I still play Warhammer very occasionally, as well as a few other tactical miniature games, but I think of myself as a "hobbyist" more than a "wargamer" now. The realization for me was that I didn't always love whfb, but I always love Skaven.

There's only one thing you need to do Vince. And that is realising you do not have to like/ live it all the time... Hobbies like these 'wax and wane' so to speak, but they never fully let you go. (that's why I say "they always come back"..and be honest; have I ever been wrong?
[size0]What's keeping Grendel by the way???)I myself play/ think/ enjoy Warhammer (or should I say "Skaven", because I honestly don't give a rats arse about any other race) in an ever increasing & decreasing intensity. it's never at the same -level-. I've been playing since.. what? ..'93 I think, on and off. I started in '93, bought a shitload of troops, painted about 20% in a horrible state (like I guess most kids do) & played it intensely for something like a year. Put it aside. Picked it up a year later again. Liked the painting better then. Enjoyed playing for fun. Put it on the shelf after a few years. Picked it up again.. rince.. repeat. Found this place. Went to insane peaks during and after the SoC... left for awhile.. came back full force.. now I'm just 'here'.. Thats all there is to it really... and you know what.. I'm ok with that. And so should you. ![]() In those 14 years (shiIIIte.. Im getting olllld) I've played lots; Sometimes serious... usually just for kicks.. sometimes because I was bored & had little lese to do... but most of the time, I didn't play at all. Some weeks you paint some.. or glue something together.. to let it drop for months at a time right after that. And it's all fine and dandy. Whevever I felt like it, my furry horde was always waiting there for me. Don't ever sell them. You'll be sorry. *retrieves dagger from your back* Worth a shot. ![]() :ph43r: P.S: Morale of the story; it's ok to have other priorities or dislike warhammer. Just realise that this feeling will change over time again. And when you do feel 'the itch' or 'the horned one's call' again.. I'm betting my left kidney that comming back here and seeing people still talking about Skavenade will bring a smile to your ratty face. |

My uncle tok off with my parents' car, but you're still free to find a saturday I don't have too much work to do and come. I'm sure the store manager would pass comments on how much he hates our haistyles. I mean, Antherak did it, and is probably stillmumbling about those old people in motor-chairs almost causing him an accident. But Vinz, you really aren't alone. Many on this stie are like you. And I'm more and more looking about going to uni, which means I probably won't be able to carry my 1000 models. And have to store them in an old shoebox again. For the last year or 2 years, I barely played outside of my local tourneys (3-4 per year). I just have too much work to do, noone to play against, or don't feel like playing. But I still have the models. Who knows if I find a renewed interest when the skaven book will come back? And my last painted skaven was like 3 months ago. Thing is, just like with pretty much everything, we can't have a perpetual interest. We do lose interest at some points. But that doesn't mean it won't come back. Sometimes it just needs a little push from life. Like the time I got hung back on NHL 95 on SNES, because my computer motherboard burned. Or the time I watched hundreds of anime episodes in a month because I only worked 1 day per week for a while. I know someone who only plays warhammer when he has girlfriends: he plays when the girl goes shopping and stuff. Who knows, what if I renew my taste for painting when/if I move in an apartment for uni. |

Ah well, so I guess the basic thought is to just let them collect some dust for a while and pick 'em all up when they're calling out to me again. Guess that could work. *laughs*... Well, it did up to the UE GT, that is and besides, I never was much of a match winner in the first place.
You'd be surprised by the stories I can tell you on that one... Some of those guys.
To be honest, the last Skaven model I've painted for my Warhammer Fantasy army is from... well, a long, LOOOONG time ago and I seriously don't know whether it would be that smart to release pictures of them on the internet. To give you an indication why, they were called the patriottic (sp?) Skaven due to their orange-ish colour. Off course, I could always dare to place a picture in the "Old vs. New" thread.
Depends on whether that fee is higher or lower then the shipping cost. :lol:Greetz P.S. @ Mik: What use could I have with your left kidney? Then at least give me something like a barrel of beer, or something like that... |

PM me your address! If you don't play 10 games of fantasy in the next motnh and enjoy them all, i'll come over and break your legs for you. At my own expense no less! ![]() But in all seriousness though, I haven't played for ages eitehr. Since the UEGT in fact. I've been so busy that i've had no time to do anything hobby related at all. <_< Join the 24hr painting challenge on saturday! I have a feeling that this will massively rekindle my love of the game. ![]() It could work for you too! |

indeed you never really loose that squeak itch. with gossip of a new book eventually... it would be a shame to deny yourself the dream. what resparked me a bit is the warhammer fanasty roleplaying books, Its details in the background of skaven in the two books is amazing. and a few signs from the horned rat (saw quite a few wild rats lately) and the fancy clanrats block i was planning on making from pez dispencers Its a shame this rabbit's pocket watch was always running late, but enjoy life where ever it chooses. mik hides under the desk now, too many rats trap the sockdraw i believe :ph43r: |

... And you have no idea how effective old unwashed socks can be, cause they're perfect camouflage.@Scar: Appreciate the invite, but unfortunately I've to work from 7am to 5pm that day and I'm not such a friendly person after having worked me arse off for six days straight. (Trust me, I've already exploded twice today due to the behaviour of my boss, which wasn't great to experience). Greetz |

Nevermind Vinsh. I too am stuck in the land of long working hours! <_< Not a joyous experience is it? One thing which may help you........look over the photo's of the UEGT. Especially the ones of all our skaven on Mik's table and also the megabattle. If that doesn't stir pride (and plots) in your ratty heart, then.........well, i'm sending assassins. ![]() Seriously though, try a little painting, or maybe try writting some fluff for a new army. Dare I say it, but............maybe starting a new army would rekindle some excitement for the game. New armies bring new ways of looking at things. I found that when I first started skaven, and look at me now! ![]() Good luck with it mate. |

Not to hijack this thread, but speaking of UEGT photo's... ![]() Is Sg3 still comming out or would it be ok for me to post that pic's thread someday soon? It's been a long time since the GT, but the pics have never really been officially posted and I still want to do a battle report on me and rage's final battle sometime. I still have all these great pics lying around, but nobody to see them.. ![]() Anyway, I agree with most of what's been said so far. Keep your army and just take a break. In retrospect even I've not been warhammering for 4 years straight and there's been loads of times when I just didn't feel like painting my army or when somehow me and my friends wanted to do other things (like DnD or Magic) on a gaming night. I hear you dude! Cheers, Bodacious. |

First off I totally don't mean to be plugging here. (oh God here goes Squee again  ) When I lost interest a while back I actually started looking at other games to play. I didn't actually start collecting for any of them, frankly I just made up some proxies with some friends and tried some other systems, after doing that for a bit when I did finally look back at WFB again it looked a whole lot more appealing; not because it was better than the other games but for once it was the one that was different and it sparked the imagination again. Unlike when I stopped I couldn't wait to see a a horde of fiendish ratmen run across the field in insane glory all for the Horned Rat, plus now I've got the knowledge of those other games if I'm feeling like doing those as well. Off the top of my head Ęthra ( ) is a great game as the rules are extremly condenced (the main 2nd edition rules are only 14 pages and the Army Lists are usually only 2-4) and their isn't a set model base to you could take that aspect of it as far as you want. Warmachine is all skirmish style so it takes nothing to build up an army and it too has a small rule set, then of course theirs Ragnarok/Confrontation.That's the thing with Games Workshop now, Warhammer is still the largest game out there but theirs newer ones that are really rising fast and are fun to play and it feels good to get the old mental juices moving again. |
