Joining the TK faction: Legions of Nehekhara

Quote:

2000 years ago Clan Husk was founded and rose as a star over Nehekhara. Aiding the rulers of the glorious kingdom some Skaven-tribes had united, and earned a place and position amongst the proud sons of the sun. But when treason struck down the magnificent society, the clan lost almost all. The neighbours of various races including other skaven quickly swarmed over the once prosperous Nehekhara, and the survivors of Clan Husk had to become invisible. For more than a thousand years the eastern skaven of Clan Husk had slowly grown. Living the secret life in and around some long forgotten dungeons at the spurs of Misty Mountain. Raiding Ork-tribes as well as human settlements, and occasionally a dwarf-patrol never returned. But always using the utmost care, not to leave any tracks.
Under the ruling of Warlord Gulag, the recent descendant of the legendary Lord Grimesh, the clan had continued the slow progresses, but the lair was getting crowded, and it would soon become very difficult to control the factions that always struggled to gain the upper hand. But a solution came from an unexpected angle.

The wind rose without a warning. Sand started rotating and rising. The clanrats of Clan Husk hid in fear but Warlord Gulag knew what was happening. In generations the sign of the Nehekharan Rulers had only lived in stories, but now it happened before his very eyes. The sand took shape of somewhat human forms, and settled. An impressively ornamented Liche Priest and his escort of undead but heavily armed guards stood before the skaven.
Gulag bowed in respect and hissed at his closest bodyguard:
"Quick-run. Go get old Mushwar. He still speaks their tongue"

Stuttering a few rusty welcome words in the ancient language, Gulag greeted the messengers and showed them to the shadows of a cliff. Offered them chairs and water, but although the last seemed pointless, the Liche Priest accepted and let the water run through his jaw. Literally.
Mushwar arrived and the talk began.

“We are pleased to see, you still honour our holy pact” the Liche Priest spoke in a hollow voice.
“But of course. We are as always at your service. It has just been-taken so long since you have called upon us”
“True, but now the Kings has risen, our legions are marching, and every loyal hand must fight to reclaim what once was ours.”
“Yes-yes” Gulag smirked remembering the stories of the wealth his clan once possessed. “We will start preparing immediately. “

BTW, Clan Husk consists of both "normal" skaven and undead. Who definately seems to have more control over their minds (sortoff) than undead humans.

Shortly after the meeting with the Liche Priest, Mushwar and several other Clan Husk chieftains had been ordered to accompany Warlord Gulag to the command warren. Assembling the clan's leadership hadn't taken as long as usual for it seemed the news of their visitors had spread through the surrounding camps like wildfire. As ever among skaven society, important news was hard to keep secret and Mushwar was often surprised how much his fellow skaven already knew about a meeting that only happened 15 minutes ago.

The speed of rumour aside, the quickness of the assembly was still impressive. Stories of the skelleton-rulers had been told to Clan Husk younglings for generations and the entire history of the Clan was based on an age old alliance that had once existed between them. Off course the term alliance has always been a relative one amongst skaven, the stories of the power and riches that these ancient beings were supposed to posses was enough to inspire eagerness in even the humbles pawleader. Mushwar suddenly felt a lot more secure in his position, realising he was still the only one among them who knew how to communicate with their new patrons. A powerful tool in any schemer's arsenal.

"Still-Silence!" Warlord Gulag spoke with his low booming voice, an unusual trait for a skaven to have. "I have not call-called this meeting for gossip and chittering."
"Are the rumours true-true then? Did you squeek-talk to the dead-things tonight?" One of the more excited chieftains foolishly interrupted.
Omnious silence filled the chamber as Gulag rewarded the speaker with a most menacing stare that would have killed the chieftain where he sat if only Gulag possessed the magic of the Grey Seers.
"Yes." Gulag spoke after a great while, the chieftain having almost dissapeared beneath the long stone table in shame. "Mushwar has translated their talk-messages and they mean for us to fight-fight with them."

Blunt and to the point. The implications of this news hit the gathering like a globe of warpgas. It was no secret that the region had grown more and more hostile in the past months. Pirates from the northern coasts, green-things and dark-things from over the mountains and even rumours from a warhost of man-things, dwarves and elves had reached Clan Husk's ever vigilant ear. None of them had come into contact with the clan's secret hide-outs, but all of those assembled knew that it was only a matter of time.

"Assemble your clan-forces, chieftains." Gulag continued. "I want an inspection in the great hall-cavern by sun-dawn tomorrow."

The room couldn't have been emptied faster. All of the assembled warleaders sped towards their holdings for they knew that it would take a small miracle for each of them to be able to fully present their regiments by dawn.

"Oh, and Mushwar..." Gulag spoke in a dreading tone to the old rat with the walking cane who still lingered in the doorway. "Tommorrow night, in this warren-chamber, a selection of your best-best lore-disciples. Able to translate the dead-things. One for each clan-chieftain."

Mushwar Moldfang continued though the door without looking back. Having survived for centuries in skaven society, one became accustomed to delivering the impossible.

If you remember to close the Aethra for other eyes, we probably would have some use of it. ;)
So, NurgSquee / Jac-Jaculus! Are you rising from your tomb? And what was that note about Sneaky?
So far only Boda and I represent Clan Husk.
We have a great banner and get to ride chariots :P. If we put it in our fluff.

It's always hidden, I just keep the link to it handy.

Alrighty, I've finally made my appearence
*and the crowd goes WILD!* *bsb*

Anyhoo I posted in the 'join here' thread so hopefully you'll see me reporting battles alongside you soon.
Here's my starting fluff:
Quote:

Father Squee stood in the middle of a wasteland. Nothing was around him, not the normal vegetation, not overhead tunnel ceiling, not even any rotting Skaven corpses to little the ground around. Nothing but sand for as far as his flaming eye could see.

How did I get here?

A dry wind blew past in a vain attempt to shake him but the Plague Lord stood firm. It picked up even more, grabbing the sand close by and whipping it up into the air. The swirl of dust picked up and spun in front of Squee, becoming almost a solid pillar of sand.

“Father Squee…”

The voice came from within the pillar, “My Plague Lord, listen to me.”
“I-I am not your Plague Lord. Show yourself.”
“I cannot flesh thing, though know that I am of your kind comrat. I need your help.”
The Plague Lord would have laughed if he had a sense of humour, “‘Comrat,’ yes. Well-well I wouldn’t help just any normal Comrat. Why should I help you Nameless?”
“Because I can fulfill your desires…”

Below Squee the sand started to move, he took a step back just in case it was a trap. From beneath the sand rose gold and treasures beyond anything the Skaven had ever seen before. More and more treasures began mounting, many of which were Warpstone based; it wasn’t until an antique tome unburied itself did the Father really start to take interest. He picked up the book and began flipping through its dry parchment pages; inside he found long lost details on pestilence and place of days past. The power detailed was on the scale to wipe out entire civilizations…but something didn’t feel right about the situation and Father Squee couldn’t be so easily fooled.

“Any Chaos God could perform such a-a task Sand-Thing. I-I need proof.”

The sand reformed itself, becoming the more familiar shape of a Skaven, though there was still something unsettling about him. He seemed too ancient; almost that he lived beyond time. He grabbed something from under his robe and reviled it to the Plague Lord.

“…The only way you-you could hold that is if you were part of the Council,” Squee looked long and hard at the sandy face. “Who are you?”
“A-A friend comrat.”
“…What do you need from me?”

In a blink they were in a cave. Squee could tell from the walls that it was very deep, and surprisingly familiar.
“How did we-we get under the Ulricsburg?”
The Sand Skaven simply smiled, “We are now in the-the Time Caves. This is where you will-will complete your service to me. I am currently in another time and I-I am needed in-in yours.”
“It will take time.”
“I-I can wait, comrat. Just complete the task, Clan Husk will rise again.”

With that the sand that formed the powerful Skaven exploded…
…and Father Squee woke up.

Things are happening amidst the dunes:

Day1
The warlock sent a great warplightning to zap 5 skinks, the rest moved in position. But right after he fried himself , luckily without taking any from his unit with him. The slaves did get what seemed too close to the Saurus warriors, who charged, killed, but failed to run the fleeing runts down. Surprise. A clanratunit flanked them, and without killing a single, sent the reptiles fleeing (CR) and succeeded catching them. A Scar-wet killed our stupid chieftain, but the Gouger did give the big guy a wound, so the globadiers got him with their spheres. The rest of the Lizzies ran away or got butchered. All for the prize of both my characters and a nightrunner. Oh, and a worthless bunch of slaves got away in the dunes.
(Warlord Gulag and his Clan Husk Stormers winning over a Lizardarmy)

Day3
Due to incompetence my worthless underlings let an elite unit (TombGuards)reach my personal guard (Stormvermin)and kill them all. Luckily I outsmarted the fools, and escaped by hacking my way through a few weak footsoldiers.
(Warlord Gulag and his Clan Husk Stormers making a tactical retreat facing some arabs)

Day4
Shortly after the Legion’s invasion of Melrhir oasis, Clan Husk’s sandrunners encountered a fast moving force of lizard-things along the hills east of the oasis. The army was getting close and it would obviously take a serious threat to get them to change their direction. The sandleader hastily returned to the nearest Clan Husk official: Mushwar, who quickly assembled a force that would be big enough to discourage the invaders. The battle quickly began once Clan Husk started pouring out of the hillside en masse. The lizardmen put up an incredible fight and those few regiments of elite troops that Mushwar had been able to assemble were quickly cut down by the Carnosaur, Kroxigors and Saurus warriors. Under the iron gaze of their superiors, the clanrats were luckily able to take up some of the slack and cut down some losses for the lizardmen as well. In the end, both armies suffered too much losses to be able to continue the fight any longer. Clan Husk paid for this diversion with a heavy price, but luckily got the job done nonetheless. The lizard-things were retreating and would not come back to the oasis very soon.
(Mushwar Moldfang and the Keepers of the Holy Pact having a draw to Lizardmen)

Day7
During one of the battles in the fight for Melrhir Oasis, Mushwar's Keepers were tasked by the sand kings to prevent a brettonian strikeforce from reaching the lines of the enemy and beat them back out of reach of the camps around the oasis. Mushwar had been unwittingly provided with incompetent followers however when it became apparent that a unit of sand runners that were supposed to sacrifice themselves and tie up the charging knights, decided to make run for it in the last minute. Mushwar summoned the magic given to him by the sand kings to 'persuade' the heretical runners to turn back, but to no avail. Needless to say, the knights were able to charge right through a large regiment of clan husk spearrats this way and Mushwar had to retreat his troops back to the lines of the camps where they could be replenished again. Fortunately, the zeal of the impetious knights made them chase the fleeing rats a long way in a direction oposite to the oasis. Perhaps Mushwar might still be spared the wrath of his superiors and be rewarded for executing such a brilliant and daring tactic.
(Mushwar Moldfang and the Keepers of the Holy Pact divert a Bretonian legion to pursue)

Day8
While the armies of the sand kings are moving towards their new target, wadi oasis, Mushwar's Keepers are selected to protect the flanks, but unbeknowst to them, the brettonian army that had been diverted earlier came back to assault the massive army again. Surely the worthless sand runners should be blamed for not providing the necessary information about this strike, but luckilly the brilliant strategic mind of 'ol Mushwar quickly thought of a diversionary tactic that would send the brettonian regiments charging after several clanrat regiments that had been trained to run quickly through the desert sand. Another regiment of the impetious errant knights found themselves flanked and overrun by the frenzied followers of the pact, but sadly mushwar himself was forced to retreat from the battle as the deadly fire of the peasant's astonishing marksmanship. At the end of the battle, both forces were pretty much routed, even though the brettonians had a few regiments left, they were in no shape to endanger the rest of the legions.
(Mushwar Moldfang and the Keepers of the Holy Pact luring the Brets further into the desert)

Day9
The skaven of Clan Husk sneaked up to the unaware arabs, but some large birds flew up and cried out. A magician made swarms of bugs and a gigantic scorpion emerge from the dunes. The bugs attacked and ran down a whole unit. So did the scorpion, but when following the running survivors, it smashed into the rear of the stormvermin. Here warlord Gulag was bravely leading from behind. Thus alone at first against the creature giving it a wound. The cunning planning of Gulag had the spy(assassin) Spitznaz hidden in the bodyguardunit, and he rushed to the aid.
The manylegged killerbug was butchered without losing a single wound. The birds killed our special unit digging up in the middle of the arabcamp, but when attacking the stormvermin the flyers met their doom. The enemy magician cast a lightning but it died out. Dispelled. And the powerfull mage found himself exposed to the expensive jezzail sharpshooters. After the death of their magician the arabs panicked and, at an acceptable cost of skavenlifes, was almost extinct. Only their tribeleader escaped with his archers and their terrorcausing giant.
(Warlord Gulag and his Clan Husk Stormers taking revenge over same arabs)

If any rat (or others) are interested, we still have room in the Legions of Nehekhara. Both at Clan Husk, as faithful undead or as mercenairies.

Congratz to the Pi-rats for their amazing comeback, after spending most of the campaign in the bottom.
As you undoubly is aware of, the Legions of Nehekhara ended in the very rear. <_<
But it seems, that in all campaigns I have participated in, the TK-players are extremely not-active.
Aaron Mon did post a lot, and my "usual" opponent also did post some reports.
Unfortunately other desert rats suffered from RL-issues, resulting in posting only a few battles. No offence.

I fully blame Bodacious for luring me into reviving clan Husk :P
(Pirats were considered, but I can't spell "Yaarrr" right  )

Nah. I got some quick games, which is better than none, but I think I prefere fewer but a bit bigger.
As a sideeffect I have finally settled on making my warlord army (Eshin is still my preferred) Clan Husk- themed.
Now I just have to paint some thousand point of troops in desertcolours

None taken. I screwed up big time -_- .

I thought I was definately going to be able to make time for the whole campaign, but after the first two weeks the people at the store I go to simply stopped caring about fantasy games and it got harder and harder for me to get battles in. I could've kept writing fluff or participating in other ways, but then my university work started taking a turn for the worse as well and it'll still take until friday for me to be able to return to my previous levels of online activity. It wasn't just my A2 activity that suffered from this, but I've been able to get online for this site less and less as well.

Oh well, enough excuses.

@Morgoth: I'm glad to hear that you still had fun with the campaign and that you've always been there to represent Clan Husk. If there was some sort of 'underempire badge of campaigning achievement' I would have awarded it to you now. Here's to hoping that come next campaign, I'll have a lot more free time on my hands so that I can join in again to spread the word of the desert rats (I'm still completely in love with my converted 'Mushwar' model and mark my words he's going to get an army someday) ^_^ .
