Greetings fellow Skaven, The following is something I've been writing on-and-off for the past ten months and has undergone quite a bit of deleting and re-writing in that period, so a lot of effort has gone into it. While I don't immediately see it winning any awards, it's written as a "Thank you" to the entire community and I hope everyone can appreciate what has come out of it. Off course, as usual any comments, feedback/ genuine praise *hint, hint*... is highly appreciated.
Enough blabbering from me, GET READIN'!

In the darkness, all that could be heard was a deep sigh...
Waving his paw in a fluid pattern in front of him, a torch suddenly burst into flames at the other end of the Chamber. It did not illuminate the entire chamber, but it gave off enough light for him to move around the Chamber without tripping over anything that might have been left on the ground. Off course he could perform the same trick at more torches, but that might draw the attention of the Council Guards and that was something he could not use right now.
Moving his chair away from the grand table that stood in the middle of the Chamber, Vinshqueek got up and immediately felt time was no longer with him. He had been trying to push the inevitable forward for such a long time, that it even seemed like time itself had passed him by before he knew it. The uncounted hours he had spent in the Council had started to take their toll on him, slowly sapping his strength to keep on moving. Right now, he simply was an old shadow of his former self, the Skaven Lord that had its paw in every scheme and decree from the Council. He had become the 'venerable seer', one of the few remaining Skaven that had been there around the days of the Great Incursion from the 'things' of the wastes north of Hell Pit. At some days, memories of those long forgotten days came back to him. The days when the grey seer Verminous Fang was honouring the glory of the Skaven and Rattsu the Black was securing the foothold the Skaven had within the man-thing city of Middenheim. Even while he let his mind stroll back towards those days so many times, he knew his name would occur in only a few of the many scrolls that held the history of the Skaven during that period. He would have given so much to even have a single scroll dedicated to his efforts, but as mighty as he was, that was a dream he would be chasing, as he simply did not have the power to change that.
Slowly shuffling around the chair, he walked towards the standard that stood behind his seat. Unhooking the clan Vinshqueek banner, he carefully laid it out upon the table. It was a revered item within the clan, being an heirloom from before the time when he had been spawned into this world. While it always looked like an old rag to him, there was one particular thing about it that had ensured he would honour its importance to the clan. It was inscribed with Skaven sigils that none had been able to decypher to this day. The seers of the clan mentioned it to be writing by the Horned One himself, marking the clan as chosen upon the day of the Great Ascending, when the Skaven would flood the world above theirs. They always kept the banner in perfect condition and guarded the item with a ferocity that could hardly be matched by even the most senior plague lords, an underestimation that had costed more then a few assassins their lives. As he rolled it up to take along with him, another long forgotten memory crept back into its thoughts. He might not have been mentioned in the honorary scrolls on the events that had taken place during the Incursion of the 'things', he had worn the seal of Overlord of Zundap, one of the man-thing cities that had fallen to the Skaven. Even while SkavenAde had been distributed through the Incursion, it was from the distribution out of Zundap that it really became known to every Skaven. It became a trademark would be highly popular up to these days, something he wouldn't have guessed when creating the brew. Perhaps his purpose within those days had never been to become a famous warlord, but an inspirator instead. It was a thought that would most certainly be keeping him awake for quite a few nights.
Almost forgetting it, he dug into the bag he had brought along. The small sack he pulled out of it held a secret item that had been with him for many seasons. In it were small belaying pins, most commonly used by the warlords of the UnderEmpire to place markers on maps during campaigns, but within the walls of the Council chamber it had been a most cunning device to keep the fellow Council members of the Skaven Lord on their toes... It had not been used for a long while, as the need for it simply wasn't there for a long while. Still, the young Skaven within him could not resist the temptation of pulling a prank on one of his fellow Council members and grabbing a couple of the pins out of the sack, he carefully placed them on the seat opposite to his. "Let us watch-see Deathmaster Mik, whether your skill-senses are still as they were-were", Vinshqueek mumbled to himself. As one who puts fear in any assassin of clan Eshin, he of all members in the Council ought to see and appreciate the irony of being toyed with by a Skaven from the shadows. If not, then it would be a decent parting gift from an old friend and a reminder to visit his hold every once in a while.
Placing the small sack with pins in the middle of the table where all the Council discussions took place, Vinshqueek spoke a small incantation over it. In the end, the pins were fairly simple items, but as with all things from the Council required careful use. As such, the incantation would make sure that the small sack would remain in plain sight, but only those worthy enough to use it would be able to pick it up. In time, there would be another Skaven who might live up to the legacy Vinshqueek was leaving behind and when that time would come, the pins would find themselves to have a new owner.
Having done all that needed to be done, Vinshqueek packed his stuff and slowly walked towards the doors that gave entrance to the Council Chamber. Opening them in silence, the old warlord felt his powers leaving, as if the magic that had once built this place sensed his definite departure... Just before closing them, he looked back for one last time and knew that at one point, a new figure would arise from the masses to fill the position he left behind, though things would never be the same again. Even while the members of the Council would never dare to admit it, they all knew very well that his departure would make everything different. A gentle laugh followed after that thought and turning around, he closed the doors behind him.
And just like that, the image turned black...
Having turned off the Far-Squeeker, Vinshqueek slowly shuffled back towards the comfortable seat from where he had just been watching his own departure from the Council chambers. He would no longer need to play a part in the constant plotting and scheming that took place between those walls, nor would he be leading any clans into battle for a long while. Still, he remained to be a Skaven by heart and could not do without information, so he had taken the liberty to make sure he knew when it would be time to act again. Should that time come, he would be ready, but that time was not now. As he slowly sat down in his seat, he had to keep himself from grinning at the prospect of his return to Skavenblight, should the occassion require it. Feeling a silent touch on his shoulder, the old warlord looked around to see his breeder holding the blanket he had asked her to get earlier. Accepting it with a gentle smile, he began unfolding it and tugging himself in. Slowly the warmth began to spread through his body and the sensation that had been creeping through his body ever since he closed the doors of the Council chambers suddenly emerged. For the first time in many seasons, Vinshqueek had no clue what he would be doing once the next day would begin... As he pulled the blanket up to his snout and thought back on everything that happened the past moon cycle, he suddenly felt so very tired and noticed how his eyelids were trying to fight off the sleep that was coming over him. "Yes-yes", he said to himself, "Sleep would-will be nice" and slowly, the old warlord drifted into a deep slumber.

Bravo! Bravissimo! The story was really touching, the perfect way to say goodbye really. And I'm saddened to hear that you are stepping down, because after all, you're such an exellent council member. I think we're all going to miss you, and I hope you'll still hang around from time to time. May you always walk in the grace of the Horned Rat.

A fitting and suitably grand tribute to yourself Vinsh. I certainly won't dissagree that you have been the best and hardest working administrator I have even had the fortune to meet in the vast expanses of the internet.
Reading it actually made me a bit sad, because it really brings home the knowledge that we have lost an incredible Council member. But as I have said elsewhere, you will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. You fully deserve your retirement and a nice long rest. But don't forget that you have a large 'extended family' here and i'd be saddened further if we didn't see you from time to time.
You have worked tirelessly for the site and its going to be VERY hard to find a worthy person to fill your shoes. Now you've stepped down, people will probably realise just how much work you do for the site on a daily basis.
The pins were a great narrative plot to represent your aministration duties. And I had a good laugh at the prank on DM Mik, the other admin.
Sleep well our prince among skaven! May you return to our halls one day in the future, and be welcomed back as a great among equals.
*As a matter of respect, I dissengage all attempts at finding out the writting on the Clan Vinshqueeks banner*

*grins*... Well, you have to defy the odds every once in a while, ey? I mean, come on, pulling a prank on the infamous deathmaster ought to last a while with even the most hardest figures in the Skaven community of Skavenblight.
But it's good to see people enjoying the story.

*claps*
Since i finished my own little fluff story (of bout 21 chapters), I have never dared enter this little place in the forum, but this little jumble of words and letters caused me to break the streak. Was it worth it?
Yes, yes it was
