That's right! Today is my favourite day! ^_^

So far, I woke up to a phone call:

Them: "Hello Garrett? This is Aoife from the Tudors and"
Me: "OH CRAP I OVERSLEPT I'M SORRY I'LL BE THERE IN 40MINS!"
*sounds of rushing out door*

But, upon arriving (at least before anything had started) the weather was so miserable that they had to send us home with a full days' pay! :D

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! ^_^

But surely its the sacred day of the horned rat nothing bad could ever happen to us deciples of the horned one......

Incidentaly dose anybody know from when the "unlucky" tag stems from in todays western culture?

Theres a warp token for the corect answer.....

Well I finished my giant rat unit and got some very good news today, so I must be blessed by the Horned One ^_^

Now I've said that I'm going to knee myself in the face or something

[MUTATE] Apparently the unlucky 13 comes from the last supper, with the thirteenth disciple being the traitor Judas. I think this is true or at least plausible because unlucky 13 does seem to be a western phenomenon across primarily Christian countries. Other cultures have their own unlucky numbers (4 in China, for example, as the symbol for 4 is similar to that of death, I think, therefore a bad omen.)

[MUTATE AGAIN] Oh, it goes back further than Christianity. There's also a Norse interpretation where Loki was the 13th at a banquet in Valhalla (he wasn't invited,) making unlucky 13 as well, nobody really likes Loki, do they?

It's also apparently considered unlucky in Ancient Egyptian culture but I can't find anything more about this.

Wolt's right, it's a free online game called "The Kingdom of Loathing", which is basically a game made to make fun of the english language, when you get down to the very core of it! Start an account today! It's free and fun!

On a les advertisement related note (sorry 'bout that, couldn't resist) has anything bad actually happened to anyone today that's out of the ordinary? (i.e being hit by a flying black cat or some obscure thing like that :P )

Ajax = warpstone juice

my 13th started out fun 10 hours or so ago i left my notebook along with my backpack on the bus.

when the store came to deliver my groceries (yay for lazy Americans who like their food brought to them) they had run out of my favorite cheese. so now i have sandwitches with turkey AND NO CHEESE!

i would call in sick today but yesterday I was like 2 hours late so I would like to avoid being fired so no sick time for me. even tho i think goblins tried to beat me up in my sleep cause i feel kinda sore and got a wicked headache.

Man I should attempted to trade shifts with someone earlier and went to the dog track with the rest of my friends....

well at least some good news, the newest version of firefox has a spell checker :D

Nope :P

All good answers and quite possibly valid but they are all looking at the NUMBER 13 not the number AND the DAY Friday 13th. and the connection to it being unlucky in western culture.

It stems from the time when the king of france who had borrowed a LOT from the bank of the knights of the temple of solomon (the templers) and not wanting to pay them back concocted a story about devil worship/denying christ/spitting on the cross and all sorts of other nasty lies which he then took to the pope and damanded they be interrogated.By this time the templers were THE largest organisation in europewith propertys all over the lands between england and the holyland and it was this cash that he wanted more of.
So with his contrived story the pope and the various rulers of europe swooped on every templer property and enclave in a incredably well organised coup and captured virtually every templer and then subjected them to "the question" (tourtoured them), some of them denied the allegations and some including the grand master (an elderly man) eventually confessed and the order was condemed to death, their lands siezed and monies taken.

The day this "swoop" took place?......Friday the 13th and ever since then it has been connected with bad luck.
