When i read type of troops I was thinking about actual tropps lol. You know. So i agree about gun and cavalry they are good. But a lot of thing simply can't be used in teh book because something better exist: -engineer -free compagnie/halberdier (your opponent will probably hand up killing enought because of crappy armour save that they won't be able to take off rank bonus) - spearman ( that defensive tactic can be used with any block and is probably better with spearman since a lot of opponents will need 4 to hits and the better armour save make them more resistent) - hellblaster ( no it simply can't do anything when you roll to hit with BS 3) |

What is "better" is a matter of perspective. Some players use the engineer quite well to enhance their war machines, snipe, and/or be smaller war machines themselves Halberdiers and Free Company are excellent against troops that wouldn't give you an armor save anyways and for against tough enemies that are stubborn/unbreakable Spearman are always viable, especially when playing defensively ... and then you add detachments and they are wonderful Helbaster can shoot up to 30 shots in one round ... hitting 50% of those is not bad ... heck 33% is not bad with that sort of output either. You have to realize that none of these troops (the helbaster especially) are meant to be able to just be placed on the table and kill anything that comes to them ... the halberdiers and free company are excellent when you need your detachments/rank&file to actually kill the enemy rather than use static res... the Engineers add to your considerable ranged prowess... spearmen aid in defending that prowess ... the helbaster is a nice short ranged punch that can be relied on to at least weaken your enemy (what shooting was intended to do) and sometimes decimate them ... It irks me a bit to see that people think that the units they, and even a majority of people, think are the best ways to do things are THE best and only way. History often shows that the majority is more often incorrect than correct ... and usually only correct when they follow an individual or group of individuals. Empire has a plethora of units to choose from. Your opinions on whether all of them are good choices or not is mute as it is merely an opinion while the large number of choices is a fact. They can go balanced, large numbers of infantry, all cavalry, gunline, and any other combination. The only thing Empire can't do is chariots and melee skirmishers ... and they actually have the Steam Tank and War Alter to be the pseudo-chariots. |
