Quiet, I'm plotting.

I am a huge fan of Transformers, and I met the announcment of a new live action Transformers movie with equal exhilaration and trepetation. So the last few months have been a bit on edge. There was a lot Michael Bay could do to screw this movie up, or just miss use a bunch of cool characters.

Basically, I was very happy with this movie.

First of all, I think it was an excellent move to focus more on the humans than the Transformers. We can connect better with the humans, and can understand a lot about the Transformers by how the humans react to them.

The character designs for the different Transformers were good, though Frenzy seemed a little too over the top for me (he seemed more like a robot Gremlin than a Transformer).

The whole movie is filled with little references and nod-nod-wink-wink-say-no-more parts to the Transformers cartoon, toys and comics. Some of it feels forced, while some fits in.

Megatron is criminally underused. Actually, quite a lot of the Decepticons are. Except Barricade, who gets an awesome interrigation scene involving dubious ebay user names and items. In fact, I think ebay must have sponsored the movie in some way.

Ok, so, overall, go see this movie. It is awesome.

Am I missing the [/sarcasm] tags? :P

Seriously though, When I first saw the advert for this I couldn't believe my eyes.
Part of me wants Trasnformers to remain as the basicaly drawn cartoons from my distant past. Somehow I feel that seeing this movie could cloud my childhood memories of these things.
I still remember the first old film I saw of them!

Whats next anyway, live action movie of Thundercats?
Now that i'd go see! :D

I hear theres supposed to be a live action movie of Evangelion as well. :o
I find it hard to see that working well and to the depth of the series and movies.

Good to know, there was a lot of potential for this to go horribly wrong as you said! Very relieved it's not blasphemy in movie format.

But then I'm not the hardcore uber-fan who *edited for spoilers* when Optimus Prime *edited for spoilers* :ph43r: . I watched it and liked it in a 'yay giant robots!' sort of way but missed the craze by a few years and got stuck with the weird cheap £1.99 knockoffs being sold in Fletchers. I was more fanatical about Mighty Max and other things popular in the 90's.

The very serious uberfan in this case is Stuart, he will watch this new movie critically with a steely, damning gaze, daring it to desecrate the genre.

They should make Live Action Bucky o' Hare. :P

[MUTATE] Sorry, Mebob! I edited it so it's as now cryptic as you can get. :)

I saw the movie today and was amazed.

though what clouded my judgement was the whole thing with relating to humans in the original series there wern't any main human characters it was just the robots but still it was awsome.

i just loved the start at the army base that was so awsome :D but yeah a must see movie from me :P
Dammit i have nothing left to post here hehe

I thought there were humans? There was that kid, with the dad who falls in with the Decepticons, or was that the original movie and not the series?

It's been ages since I saw either so this is all lost in the fog of having a crappy memory :P

I was a pretty big fan of the Transformers franchise when I was a kid. I haven't seen the movie yet but will probably see it soon.

Geeky guys like me who grew up in the 70's and the 80's are in their 20's,30's and 40's so that's a huge demographic. Which means things like Speed Racer, Transformers, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones can be pretty big items. I'd love to see a live action G.I. Joe/Action Force movie though I'd imagine this would be difficult given the current world situation.

On another note, really hoping that the live-action Evangelion will be great if it ever gets produced. I do here that there's going to be another Eva-animated movie in 2008... based on the new wave of Revoltech figs I've seen, I mean.

In the original series there were two main humans, Spike and his father (his name escapes me atm). There was a girl that showed up every now and again, as well as a street punk with-a-heart-of-gold type guy. And a kid, Chip, is a wheelchair. Then there was a mad human scientist on the Decepticons side sometimes. But they all weren't 'main' characters, more supporting characters.

In the movie, there was Spike (as an adult) and Spikes son (Michael, or something).

But I think the new movie does a good job of keeping the 'spirit' of Transformers, even though the AllSpark is totally stupid (live, digital cameras everywhere!). Hopefully they don't take it too far, and Matrixify the second (and therefore, third movie), making them kind of two parts. It worked in Star Wars, it didn't work in Matrix and felt awkward in Pirates. Just don't do it.

This movie was absolutely epic. I went in thinking it would be god-like, and it beat my expectations.

The main character's name was Sam, if that's what you're talking about.

Anyway, the movie is definitely worth watching.

I personally loved it.

My only problems wer, like said above somewhere, that Megatron was seriously missing. Not enough Egotistitc Superiourity, I missed him. Hard. But the parts he was in made up for it. And this ties into the lack of lack of Starscreams lust for power. There was just the hint of it when Megatron said "You failed me again Starscream".

Though there was a hint for a Second movie at the end, I'm restraining myself from fanboying and getting my hopes up.

Overall, if you're looking for Giant Robot Deathmatches, watch Transformers!

Sorry, I should have clarified. Spike is in Transformers: The Animated Movie, as is his son.

And not just MEgatron, but all the Decepticons seem so under-utilised. But the meglomaniacal Megatron should have been at the forefront of must-include characteristics. Especially since it is Hugo Weaving providing his voice. I think Weaving has proved that he is an excellent actor under any circumstance, and has been reduced to a handfull of "I am Megatron!" snippets.
