Footbal players wear shin pads. Thats the only area your really likely too hurt.
With the exception of getting your legs caught up, or having your ankle twisted, you cant get that hurt playing football (or futbol).

Rugby has a lot more 'contact' in so many different ways. Its not just about the tackles.
I can remember being in the showers after a game and digging the mud out of a stud mark on my leg. That was pleasant.
If you've ever been caught in a ruck, you'll know all about contact then. I've been dragged into rucks and mauls before by the opposition and been punched, eye gouged, had the.....'jewels' grabbed etc. I once went into a ruck and came out with a black eye and a bleeding nose. The ref didn't see anything so couldn't do much.
The rules have changed about about studding people that are in the wrong place at the wrong time, but it still happens. I've got a small scar under my eye from having my head stood on, when I was about 13.

Stinky - Yes its just gumshields for rugby players.

Not sure what futbol is called in Brazil, but I guess its the Portugese equivalent.

Hey Warlord Scratch - I see you start the new season off with a little local derby! Fulham at the Emirates? Nearly as nice a start as my lads have got :)

Aye, there is no doubt that Rugby is the most violent/contact sport.

However, I disagree that your legs are the only things that get hurt in futbol. I've played and refereed too long to be able to let that opinion go :P Still <3 you though Scarfester ;)

I'm liking the fixture list, we got bogged down at the start last season and didn't pick up (1-1 AV, 0-1 Citeh, 1-1 Boro). All three of these games (and ESPECIALLY that one :P ) are winnable.

Interesting coincidence, sneaky, we play your rabble at home on the second the last weekend of the season. We've done this twice under Wenger, 1998 and 2002. Both years we won the double :D . The year we played you on the LAST weekend of the season, we kicked your sorry backsides 7-0. Oh for omens to be a comfort :P

Ah yes, the 7-0! I remember that (despite all efforts to the contrary) but as I recall we were still in shock from having qualified for the Champions League :P

Let's just go on last season's Premiership fixtures between our two teams for a guide as to how we might fare this time around - a 1-1 draw at the Emirates and a 1-0 victory at God's little Acre as I recall.....I'll settle for a similar 4pt haul this time :P

Have to say I liked our fixture list this time around too - there's only a spot around Christmas that looks a little tough, other than that the 'bigger' teams are scattered quite liberally about.

Second from last weekend of the season? Meh - by then we'll have both qualified for Europe so the result won't really matter :D

No, the result won't matter as you'll be giving us a guard of honour as we send out our reserves as we rest our 1st team for the Champions league final :P

The 0-1 at Godawful Park was a freak accident. Considering our top scorer that month was William Gallas's crotch, it doesn't count. The 1-1 was a park the bus job. Won't happen again, not with the old Va-Va-Voom blitzing you to pieces.

...

What? A man can dream, right?

Yes, but it was that same paper that reported that Spurs were 'sure-fire favorites' to land Robinho last transfer window. If Wenger does leave, it will be next year, and if he went to Barca he'd have to spend several years building his power base and development system up from the ground like he did at Arsenal. How long has he really got left at the top level? 10 years maximum IMO and less if what he said about not going long past 60 are true.

And if Henry goes... well we've had 8 magnificant years of him so few complaints can be made. He can go to Barca and become another fasion accessory or he can stay and become a legend.

We're a pretty stable club, and provided we don't get taken over, we won't sell Henry for the money. We'll sell (Real's hero) Reyes for the money, and probably shift out half our reserve squad, but nothing major looks to be brewing.

How's the AJ situation? I heard United and Totscum were in for him a while back, it'd be pretty nasty for you lot if he left. You missed him when he was injured, especially when you lost the most under rated player in the league too (Cahill).

Luckily all gone quiet! West ham seem to be chucking their money at a lot of players at the moment - they were apparently chasing Cahill and Arteta as well, before aiming for Darren Bent. After his knock back it's Nugent - they really are looking desperate.

I must admit I was concerned by the reports of AJ's wife not being settled up north and wanting to return to London - I feel that is a more genuine reason for him to want to move than a purely footballing one. After all, West Ham's future in the Prem is hardly secure even now, whereas we have at least a few games in Europe for him to keep himself in the England frame. Still, I've not heard those rumours about his wife for ages, so hopefully that's the end of it.

Interesting about Cahill - we actually play better football without him IMHO. When he plays him Moyes tends to line up 4-5-1, whereas whilst he's been absent we've played 4-4-2 and played much more entertaining (and dare I say successful) football! That's not to say I want to see him go, but if the right price came in then it wouldn't be the end of the world (as we could use the funds to perhaps secure the services of Fernandes).

Can't wait for July 1st and the transfer window opening :)

I most certainly can wait.... "Henry to Barca!" "Cesc to Rea!l" "Toure to Chelsea!" "Song to Everton!" (that one I wouldn't mind seeing, just for your reaction :P ). They'll all be EXCLUSIVE! and they'll all be horse manure.

I've just read that we've almost complete the (re)signing of Super Nik Anelka from Bolton.

£11m + Song + Gilbert sounds a little excessive by our standards, especially for a player that we could have got for £8m last year (mind you, your lot got AJ for £8m and we were outbid, so maybe we just didn't have the money) but it's a good signing if it's true. We got him for £500k last time and sold him a year later for £23m so we don't really have a right to complain :P

Interesting point about Cahill, I somethimes think the same when we play Henry with no support (we go 4-5-1 and isolate him) wheras if we play him with someone then the formation works better. Cahill is probably your most tallented player (although Arteta would give him a run for his money) so Moyes probably focuses on him more. I know he was good in the WC and bloody good against us at the Emirates last season...

It's true that the 'silly season' is here already - the papers, short of any concrete facts, are making things up just to pass the time. I firmly believe that the sports editors have two buckets in their offices; one with players names in it, one with Teams - they then draw one from each and voila - there's tomorrow's transfer speculation story :P

I actually live in Bolton and the local paper is carrying that Anelka story too. It's a bit of a puzzler if you deciede to resign him, but he can be a very good player when he puts his mind to it. Plus he's been touting himself to the 'Big 4' for a few weeks now. Wouldn't be the worse (re)signing of Wenger's career, that's for sure (I recall us doing the same with Duncan Ferguson....and David Unsworth come to that :( )

And on the subject of Bolton.....now there's a team set to struggle this season. Looks like they'll lose Jaaskelainen (sp?) and rumour has it Nolan is off too - love him or hate him, Allardyce did wonders with limited resources and Sammy Lee is hardly starting with a bang (having signed two very average Villa players so far). Still, at least it'll give me bragging rights over the majority of my workmates (and girlfriend) :D

Bolton getting relegated (preferably with Allardyce as well, but I can live with just the team) alongside Spurs is an Arsenal fan's Utopian dream. If we won the league as well, we'd wake up though <_<

Still, I reckon Bolton and Wigan have replaced very big personalities with far inferior man- and squad- managers.

I was talking to my (West Ham supporting) friend about their summer and he says he's dispairing. If they ARE going to spend the money, they need to first of all target players who will come to the club and improve it, not just waving their wad arround so that if there's any speculation about them going for a player his price rockets. Mind you, in th age where players like Florent Malouda are worth £13m then suddenly everything seems a little less strange. Liverpool, West Ham and United are splashing cash this year, Chelsea are hoovering up free replacements for their African contingent in readiness for the ANC (we are SCREWED. No Toure, Eboue or Adebayor. With our injury record, we'll be getting docked points for not feilding a full 16 man squad). Villa will make some odd signings that flop or fly and no one else will be able to afford anyone half decent.

Oh, and now the Spanish season has finished, El Mundo et al will be stepping into transfer over drive. Thinking about it, your bucket theory isn't so hard to believe :P It's like playing Cluedo (I accuse Thierry Henry, of transfering to Wycombe, for £1.50)

Wheras my dream sees Liverpool fail to qualify for Europe, attempt to get reinstated by some convoluted appeal, only for UEFA to tell them 'get stuffed'.

I like Rafa ''the Fat Controller' Benitez - he's taking them further away from Premiership success each season. (though he does have an annoying habit of doing well in cup games, I'll begrudgingly give him that <_< )

Give it a couple of weeks Scratch and I'll challenge you to a 'Premiership Predictor' competition - naming, in order, the finishing top 4 and bottom 3 of the Prem, and as a tie breaker the winners of the domestic trphies (including Community Shield!) :)

Hah, Ged Houlier (and now Morinho) include the community shield in their cup cabinet

You will win easilly. I did one with a mate at the start of Spetember last year and predicted Villa to finish 4th  I did get United winning the league though, and Watford and Charlton going down, although i predicted West Ham in Europe...

The top 4 is easily done, Chelsea, Liverpool, United, Arsenal. If Liverpool splash the cash though, they may do better or (hopefully) collapse horribly and drop out of the CL places.
