DeVreekz awoke to dim sunlight flooding the castle grounds. There was no sign of his mysterious attacker. Shifting, he quickly discovered what had happened. His tail blade had saved him. The wraith had leapt onto him, but just missed his heart. In the process, it had landed on the tail blade, burning away what little remained of itself. He climbed to his feet unsteadily, then quickly located the man-thing chapel.

DeVreekz scaled the chapel wall carefully and slowly. He knew that the vampire and his coven would be inside here at this time, conducting one of their bizarre man-thing rituals. His red eyes gleamed brightly. He would not fail this time.

Reaching the top of the wall, he hauled himself in with his claws and stood, watching, silently. The man things were clustered around a small altar, and he could faintly see some sort of dead-thing on it. Shrugging at the specifics of their bizarre ritual, he attached a rope to the ring above the window and prepared to swing in.

Suddenly, DeVreekz stumbled, a stone falling to the chapel floor below. He began to slip. “Bugger-bugger!” he chittered as he suddenly fell into the building, just managing to keep a hold of the rope. As he swung wildly through the building, a small metal ball dropped from his pocket. DeVreekz swore and tried to catch it, but his groping paws missed the orb.

The sphere fell to the ground and hit with a large ‘clunk’ before rolling to a halt. Watching, DeVreekz smacked into a beam, and hurriedly crawled atop it, slightly dazed by his experience.

As one, the vampire and his coven turned to stare at the small brass ball now sitting in the centre of the chapel.

The ball exploded.

A vortex of glowing light burst out from the orb, swallowing everything in its path. The vampire lithely leapt back, but even so, the wave of force caught him and hurled him against the far wall of the chapel. A wraith burst through the door - evidently the falling gutter had not killed him as expected. As DeVreekz watched, the wave reached him, and began to recede, dragging everything in the room caught within it towards it. Within seconds the room was empty except for DeVreekz and the vampire.

The ball closed with a _snap_ and lay still.

The vampire moved away from the wall - spotted DeVreekz. A pale, wire-thin blade snapped to his hand, and he leapt upwards suddenly, landing gracefully on the beam with DeVreekz. He spoke. “We meet again, rat-man. You are more resourceful than I expected, it seems.” His eyes narrowed. “But you will not escape me this time.” He darted forward, striking forwards with his blade. DeVreekz ducked under it, and struck with his own blades, but the vampire vaulted gracefully over him, attacking suddenly from behind. Parrying with his tail blade, DeVreekz turned desperately, hurriedly ducking to avoid another strike. The vampire’s blade shore through a metal chain attached to beam, and it began to slip. DeVreekz stumbled and fell. Laughing, the vampire stuck out as he did so, his blade piercing DeVreekz’ flesh with ease, almost puncturing a lung. The vampire leapt gracefully to the floor, and advanced towards the fallen ratsassin.

DeVreekz looked around desperately, chittering in pain. Then he saw it. The ornate chandelier in the centre of the chapel was now only hanging by a single chain from the roof, right above the vampire. With the last of his strength, DeVreekz hurled one of his weeping blades towards the chain. It cut straight through.

Like a man-thing carriage out of control, it fell suddenly and swiftly, smashing into the vampire and pinning him to the ground beneath it.

Slowly, DeVreekz got to his feet and approached the vampire. The spike of the chandelier had gone straight through the vampire, and the sharp silver spikes that adorned it hadn’t helped - the vampire was now headless.

DeVreekz watched, as, before his eyes, the vampire crumbled, turning to dust in a matter of seconds. Before long, only his cloak was left. DeVreekz picked it up and began to hobble out of the chapel, slowly.

Hope you like it :)

The Horned Rat really looks after this one of his servants :D
I really liked , how almost everything went wrong for your hero, yet I can almost hear him brag about his superior tactics when reporting to his master ;)

(Maybe, you should have kept this short story in 1 thread?)
Are we up to more adventures of DeVreekz?

Of course. If I write a few more, I'll probably make a big thread o' links, too :)

I'd have put it in one thread, but it ended up as several bits.

Ha, great imagination going into that piece numerouno, and well described too.

For some reason I find an assassin squeaking 'bugger-bugger' highly amusing!

I've enjoyed your trilogy and look forward to reading more of your work.

Thanks :)

Expect a nice quick short from me today - involving a rampaging pitfighting beast - and then I'll probably start another full story with him.

It was good as well as funny. Keep it up. ^_^
Life is like a bolt of lightning. Short but our stories continue live on without us even when the world comes unto the end.

Thanks :) I decided to try my hand at writing some warhammer stuff rather than my usual high fantasy, and it turned out well it seems :)
