Nice short piece, about an assassination that goes wrong. If there's any formatting weirdness, blame word - this is copied from it.

The ratsassin dropped to the ground lightly, his furry footfalls making even less sound than the rain which pattered around him. His beady red eyes darted quickly and he dashed suddenly into an alcove in the wall. A pair of humans passed in front of him, chattering about drinks and man-thing breeders.

The ratsassin reached into his cloak and pulled out a pair of throwing stars, the black lacquer that covered them absorbing what little moonlight there was. He flicked his wrist - there were two gurgles, and a pair of shapes dropped to the floor, a shadow fleeting soundlessly over them.

The shadow ducked, vanishing through a door. Inside, a pair of blood-red eyes scanned the area, before it leapt suddenly across the room, to land on the back of an unsuspecting sentry. The sentry struggled for a second, then dropped to the floor wordlessly.

Soundlessly, the shadow skulked up the staircase, revealed in the faint lamplight as the ratsassin. It moved across to a door - crouched there for a second - entered.

The young count lay there in the bed, his eyes closed, breathing lightly. The ratsassin flicked a dagger into his hand, aimed, and threw. The dagger landed millimetres from the count’s ear, embedded in the bedpost.

The ratsassin frowned, and drew a pair of wicked green blades. He approached the elector count, raised the blades, and struck.

Like lightning, the count moved. He dodged the falling blades and his hand leapt out to grip the ratsassin’s throat. He lifted the struggling skaven into the air, and hurled him across the room, bones cracking audibly as the rat-man hit the wall, his blades slipping from nerveless fingers.

The vampire unsheathed his fangs and approached the figure. He bent forward to bite the ratsassin’s neck.

The ratsassin moved, rolling under the vampire, a second pair of weeping blades in his hands. He struck upwards as he rose, but it was parried by a silvery blade suddenly in the false count’s hand. The skaven somersaulted over the bed, a volley of throwing stars darting towards the vampire. His silvery blade moved - the stars fell to the ground in pieces.

The skaven gulped audibly, turning to flee. There was no escape. In the doorway stood a wight, the marks of the rat-man’s garrotte still visible on his neck. The count spoke. “Foolish rat. Did you even bother to discover what you are dealing with?” His eyes narrowed to pale, colourless slits. “You will die now, rat.”

He moved like a snake, his silvery blade darting out, but the ratsassin was gone in a puff of smoke. Two green blades sprouted from the wight’s neck, and the skaven was gone.

The vampire tutted, waved his hand. A pair of ghostly figures stepped from the wall, pale blades in their lifeless grip. They spoke. “Your orders...master?”
The vampire replied. “Find the rat. Bring him to me. Intact.”

The wraiths nodded and left silently, melting into the walls seamlessly. The count sighed and returned to his sleep.

Quite probably. I plan to do a lot of generally interconnected fluff, and probably a direct sequel to this one - I'm fond of it :)

Note to self don't piss off that asassin. If anyone can fight with a vampire and live...
Good read anyway. Wonder how he will deal with the wraiths.

Heh :)

The Ratsassin will be returning many a-time, so no worries about that :P

And as to the wraiths...you will have to see...

EDIT: Ok, sequel should be up tonight. I'd write it now, but I'm busy having some games with my eshin in a bit, hopefully. I need some new stuff to add to my army diary :P and I can't do pictures currently :(

Just started writing it now - expect it finished in 1/2 an hour, hopefully.

Oh, and a sneek-peek!

DeVreekz hunched atop the crumbling the statue, the rain pattering around him and on his fur, making it heavy and sodden. Not a good thing for a ratsassin. He pulled his thick cloak closer around him and crouched down further, turning into a mere shadow on the wall. He heard a sound behind him. A ghostly footstep on rain-soaked marsh. He skulked silently. There was no way that whatever made the footsteps could see him.

The footstep came again, closer. DeVreekz turned.

Opposite him, standing silently, stood a pair of white ghostly figures, faintly transparent in the fading moonlight. Pale blades shone grimly in their hands. DeVreekz smiled. A pair of albino man-things? This would be easy. In a flash, he threw a pair of throwing stars to their necks.

The wraiths didn’t even bother dodging. The stars simply passed through them as DeVreekz watched, shocked.

“Bugger-bugger” he squeaked.
