OK, I'll be fluffing lots more now my exams are over, watch out world! War was all they ever spoke about. Zodros found himself sick of war. The recent fights at the abandoned town of Zettibet had preoccupied the attention of Zodros's father and thus Zodros and his twin were becoming even further from their family. Zodros and Zatros Deerthak should have been respected and influential, but their interests in the Skryre arts meant they were too obsessed with their research - they had invented a handheld weapon called a 'Shod' and were nicknamed the 'Shod twins' for it. Zodros, being more ambitious, had attempted to impress his brother and father enough to be granted an Advisor's seat, but to no avail - he and Zatros had little connection to their kin now. Zodros worried about his timid brother. Zatros was an admirer of Kraithik, the contented Seer, who was something of an outcast due to his bizarre, un-Skaven ideas about 'equality'. Then again, Zodros and Zatros were outcasts too. This particular day all high-ranking or royal-blooded members of the clan had been summoned to the Council table. The Chieftains, Advisors, Grey Seers and members of the Warlord's family were gathered to discuss the clan's new victories at Zettibet. As soon as Gerarki opened up the floor, Chieftain Sloortar gave an impressive speech on 'a new dawn-dawn' and 'death to our foes', and Zodros, pondering whether to write his next letter in the blood of a Skaven slave or a human slave, emerged from his thoughts and asked the question that was burning in his mind. "But what-what about the town of Zettibet?" Momentarily surprised, the only member of the assembly to speak was Zodros's eldest brother. Zerthak. Again. "We have no idea and we are not interested. It house-housed an old Moulder lab but the defenses and roadways near it are much-much mor important." Zodros pondered and replied"Then may I take my leave?" Chieftain Vartrak seemed interested. Funny, Zodros had thought they wouldn't miss him. "It's not worth-worth going there. Empty now. Don't bother. I propose we move nearer Durnikk City itself to..." "Yes, Zodros, you may go." Cut across Zodros's wizened great-uncle. He bounded out with Zatros in tow as usual. Gripping his brother by the shoulders, he murmured, "There is something amazing in that town, I'm sure-sure of it. We're finally going to be noticed!" He strolled toward the next door and added,"Pack-pack any provisions you need." Zatros watched his sibling leave feeling very, very apprehensive. To be continued in The Zettibet Conspiracy Part Three, in which Zodros enters the forbidding settlement of Zettibet... |
