It has occured to me that i am running out of room and my skaven army is only just reaching 2k, i plan to continue the army to at least 4000 points and even then it will probably continue to grow. The black GW carry cases hold something around 100 models but that could hold, what, 3 or 4 units of clanrats? We'd need like 5 carry cases for a skaven horde. My brothers wood elf army fits in his oringinal battalion box though some models are on top of others, and quite a few of the metal ones break from time to time (i hate drychas arm!). My skaven are currently in 2 skaven battalion boxes on my desk in the corner. This is a nice place to keep them out of the way, but the boxes are both now full. One has 4 big blocks of 25 models in it, the other has 2 blocks of 20 and all my characters/ogres/skirmishers. I keep the models already ranked up on there movement trays in the boxes as it makes it easier to get them out and game - but i dont think they use up more room this way, so even if i didnt then id still be running out of room. My army now is about 200 models strong, it will easily be 500-600 once completed as i use a lot of core troops. I need some easy way to store them both safely but also easily game with them - i need to bring the models to games workshop from time to time, even going downstairs to game at the kitchen table can be hard when i have 3 boxes of models (our 2 armies) and one of scenery to take down the stairs. Any advice and help is appreciated, Cheers, SW :ph43r: |

Sabol Army Transport cases. Best. Case. EVER! You can get varying sizes, and they will easily hold your Skaven hoard. |

Not sure if you knew GW came out with a doublesized figure case for 110 cnd, it holds I think 216 mini's (if the origional holds 108 I can't remember). I know personally I have a 180 mini strong skaven horde that's being built at the moment, right now most of it's in the big case, I also need a small box (filled with bubblewrap of course) to carry things like the screaming bell and my rat ogres. It might seem expensive but it's a lot easier than carrying around those small cases (it comes with a shoulder strap) and it's exactly twice the price so it's not like one is cheaper than the other or whatnot. |

I play most battles on my gaming table, so most of my armies just sit on my display shelf. In the case of transporting, I often use my GW Carry Case or fishing tackle boxes I have. With my Skaven (who are mostly a 'home army') I fit 2 clanrat/slave models in per section of the GW carry case. Usually works well enough, but I hate having to set up 200+ models every time I have a battle, so generally I will use another army when battleing away from home... - Sammy |

I haven't got too many models yet but both of my armies are stored in ice-cream containers with a layer of tissues between them to prevent damage. I know its not too glamorous and it has drawn its fair share of strange looks from GW and other players but it works for me, and I can fit both of my armies into my backpack along with my rulebooks and rulers. |

For the longest time I used a cereal box with some bubble rap. I don't suggest doing it. |

I didn't realize sabol did the army transport cases. I know a guy at the store I play at raves about them, he said someone chucked one full of mini's down a set of stairs and it survived. He likes them better than the GW. I might pick one up once I get more of my models finished. get that screaming bell in there. Thanks for the link though, i'll have to have a looksy at one when I go to the store this weekend. |

If you can find one at a local store, then good. If not, then you can get one at The War Store for a really good price. |

LOL, I once used a shoebox to transport 1500 points of Skaven. Man, while many a rat lost his tail that day, the look on the faces of my opponents when I started unpacking all my units was just classic! Damn, those were fun times! Greetz |

With as many unpainted models as I have I have utilised ice cream tubs, large margerine tubs....you name a tub, I've probably stuck a Skaven in it. I found that for Rat Ogres/Verminlords the solid tubes that bottles of wine/spirits come in made an ideal transporter, each model buffered with scrunched up kitchen roll. My Screaming Bell/Doomwheel fit quite snugly into a tool box I bought from a local DIY store. I found wrapping them individually in beer towels (yes, you read that right - the things normally found in pubs) before surrounding them in scrunched up tissue worked wonders. GW carry cases? Work okay for my 40K stuff (as all of that is painted). But Skaven, I have found, will fit into almost anything. |

Two large fishing tackle boxes will hold about 4000 skaven pts + dice, books, templates, measuring sticks if you use them, etc. I would suggest lining the bottoms of the sections with toilet paper first, especially for metal models. |

Thanks guys - I am looking into those Sabol Design cases now, the battalion boxes will make do for now but soon i will want to get something i can transport them in so they look like the best choice. And yes i knew GW brought out bigger cases for double the price, but still they have no room for ogres and stuff, and i could almost fill one big one at the moment, let alone as i expand! Cheers |
