me and my friend were playing a game of WHFB and i declared a charge on one of his units, not knowing the rules that well (im a noob), i started to move and then he told me that i needed to guess the distance charged, now i belived him being a more experinced and all. then i looked in the rules and couldnt find it. so is this rule true????? it certainly makes the game seem alot harder and more luck based

No it isn't.

You declare a charge, and then your opponent declares their reaction to your charge and then you do all the other bits of the movement phase until you get to move chargers and then you measure to see if you are within your charge range which is double your movement rate. If you are you make it. If you are not, then you just move your normal movement rate.

Well it's hard to tell what you mean with your question. SO I will say more then less.

Here is how a charge work. First you declare your charge before knowing if it's in range (thats the guessing part). Then you check for frenzied unit. With those you mesure if your in range of anything (including wheel) and if you do you declare a charge. When you delcared all your charge your opponent tell you what is charge reactions are.

After that you make compulsory movement phase. (rallying units and other special rules).

After that you move charger, thats when you see if you can reach the enemy. If you can't the charge is failed and you do half your move.

So thats how you do a charge. I can't remember exactly when the opponent does it's charge reaction tought <_<
I have a few bare metal dark elf model for sale, if interested pm me.

He was most likely refering to the fact that when you declare a charge you don't imediatly measure out to see if it's actually in range or not.
All the basic information on charging can be found in the rule book pages 18-24

what he said i had to do was guess the distance of the charge. like if i was 8 inches away i had to guess exactly 8 inches or the charge failed the charge.

Yeah, your friend was quite wrong. As I suggest many times to people, you should go buy the rulebook.

So are intellectual property lawsuits. Thus we don't breach GW's intellectual property rights by giving rules. It's much cheaper to just get the book.

you didn't, your so-called friend was trying to, ahem, pull a fast one.

in future the next time your friend comes up with something that sounds stupid, get the rulebook out and ask him to show you where this is written.

this isn't really a post about the rules, because i think you know what the rules are, you are really asking how to deal with opponents who try and cheat.

If you don't have the rule book yet then I recommend getting the Battle for Skull Pass for the rule book, It's the same price and comes with technically over 100 free models, it's about the only good value thing imo that GW has. ^_^
