My friend is playing dwarfs and is highly positive of his troops.. Recently he has been testing with bolttrowers at str 7 that hit on a 2+ -_-

The thing is what to do against a bolt trower? my friend alway's (a lot of times) manages to get it on a hill and starts shooting the crap out of me.

The last ting is he is thinking about making a swarmy dwarf army. It will look like this.

1 lord
2 hero's

20 warriors + full command = 205 pts
20 warriors + full command = 205 pts
20 warriors + full command = 205 pts
20 warriors + full command = 205 pts
20 warriors + full command = 205 pts
20 warriors + full command = 205 pts

longbeards + full comand = 300 pts

2 bolt trowers = 150 pts
---------------------------------------------------

he has other things too but what to do against such a army??.
The warriors have a 3+ armor safe in close combat and are not likly to flee. -.-

Outswarm him, then ^_^
Also, this gives you the chance to shoot the crap out of him yourself. And never forget the strenght of Plague Censer Bearers against these types of armies. Make sure to get them in the flank while your monks are in the front, shouldnt be too hard against those dwarfs.

The boltthrower is easy, a couple of gutter runners can scout nearby and should be in combat with it on turn 2, at least silencing it for a while.

Hope that helped!

Along with outswarm him, my limited expierience advice would be use your speed advantage to run circles around him, as skaven troops move two more inches than dwarves I feel that PWG would be especially useful.

Out :rogre: :rogre: :rogre: him.

I think the rat ogre was designed for this list!

Hold him up with the usual clannies, batty plague monks and slaves then hit him in the flanks with the rat ogres, PCB's and PWG's.

Oh maybe take out the bolt throwers first as they may make a mess of your beloved rat ogres. Or if he is being silly he will just shoot at your swarm which is perfectly fine.

Against the blot thowers use the skitterleap on an assassin (if you have one or want one) or you can take the extra risk and use a tunneling team and try to get them to appear behind his lines.

You think he's really serious about this army?

If he is, I agree with Bassik. Outswarm, shoot and use Censer Bearers.

use tunnelers to sort out his bolt throwers (2 teams of 3 should do the trick in a jiffy)

then use a mix of shooting and our close combat heavies. so PCBs, jezzails, rattlers, WFT and of course rat ogres.

for the opening 3 turns just have your heavies hide behind slaves (bar the jezzails who will be able to start shooting from the off) whilst your tunnelers sort out the shooting.

don't use a plan that relies on magic, let the dwarf waste his points on anti magic stuff, when you can play without magic it's usually best to. it's risky and costs a fair few points which could be spent on more reliable stuff.

once the shootings gone just have your big guns come out to play. with his movement 6 you'll be able to run rings around him. rattlers and WFT can just sit there and shoot him and he'll have nothing that he can do other than crawl towards them. you'll be able to pick and choose all your fights, so just flank him to death. punish him for thinking he can outswarm the skaven.

make sure you get your heavies into his flank so his save is really low (doesn't get HW+shield and -2 for strength 5 so he's got a 6+ now not too impressive :P )

and then just encase put your clan rats/monks into the front to make sure that you absolutely smash him in combat res (he has pretty high Ld to get down, so the more you can rack up the better)

i'd be very confident against this army. no longer need i worry about my rat ogres and weapon teams being shot at (those bolt throwers will go down in no time, just like every other type of war machine the enemy tries to use against us) so i can just get well and stuck in and smash the blighters into next week with no qualms at all lol

Okay, first thing is the bolt throwers. With dwarfs, he can not take the same rune combination on each of his boltthrowers. Thus, he can't make them both str 7 without giving one another rune. Second, the only ways a bolt thrower hits on a 2+ are with a master engineer (BS 5) and the target not being at long range and the Master Rune of Skewering which is ONE USE ONLY.

With a dwarf swarm, he'll try to tie you up in combat with his hardy troops and high ld. Make him come to you and shoot him a bit while he advances 6 inches a turn. One thing to be wary of though ... when within 8" of each other's forces, his forces are more maneuver than your non-eshin/-moulder troops as they can still march 6" when within 8" while you're stuck non-marching at 5".

yea .. But remember dwarf warmachine crew is tough. He fields like 4 of them next to each bolttrower and 1 has a master engineer -.-. I dont think a assasin or 3 gutterunners will win from that. 2nd is that he told me that he will have some quarrelers AND that he will try to claim avry piece of the lengt of the tabel.... Meaning that there are no flanks to get. Then he wants to just advance tie me in combat, and becouse I cant take flanks... defeat me with high armor safes and high ld and hardhitters.
And he is planning to move the freakin bolttrower on a hill and then snipe my ratlers, WFT's and also characters (he claims he can snipe my characters)

I told him that it is highly unlikely that I cant grab his flanks.

4 crewmembers? i thought that dwarf artillery had 3?

and believe me when i say that 3 tunnelers with PHW can take on 3 dwarves. you should get one to die from poison, and then another that should be overwhelmed by the other attacks. sure one or 2 might strike back. but it'll be a drawn combat at worst and that's one more turn that his bolt thrower doesn't shoot (and then you get to strike first next time anyway).

he can be about 35" long. if you play on a 4' table this still leaves him with flanks.

i'm pretty sure warmachines can't be picked up and moved once the game has begun, so if he doesn't start with a hill you're fine. and even if he does then hide your rattlers in forested areas until it's safe to come out.

he can only shoot at 2 targets a turn. and less than that if your gutter runners have emerged from their tunnels.

he has a high armour save if a S3 attack hits him in the front. this is why you put your S5 attacks into his flank, where he doesn't have a good armour save lol.

you will be able to flank charge him. he's a dwarf, he'll be moving at turtle pace. your a skaven, you'll be moving at lightning pace (for those of us not accustomed to all flyer/slaanesh/cav armys anyway lol).

he can snipe your chars if they arn't in units. it's a stupid rule (and why our rattlers and WFT arn't safe any more) but there's nothing stopping us from filling their lone mages with rattler bullets either, so it works both ways lol.

Nope for a few extra points he has 4 crew in stead of 3.

@Chieftain Cazgar:
Yes, all warmachines have three crewmembers, but Dwarven warmachines (except the gyrocopter) can buy an engineer as additional crewmember, which steps in the role of the Ork bully for the rocklobber, or the master-dude for the Bretonnian trebuchet.

Honestly, I've never had a bolthrower mess up more than hair (and with Skaven, there's lots of oppertunity! XD )

Don't worry about it too much, but you may want to use a tunnelling team for the fun of it. I suggest the WLC and Warpfire Thrower to fry up some of his big units. You should get lots of shots, few saves, and at least cause some chances with panic tests.

ps. You only need to kill one of each unit to make them loose a rank.

With artillery in other armies, it isn't always about killing the crews. Killing the crews is a bonus. The secret is to tie up the enemy war machines so that you can advance safely into close combat where they can no longer shoot at you.

Also, if so worried about shooting ... stormbanner is great.

As far as a line of dwarfs stretching from one end to the other ... smile ... just attack one flank of his forces. With 6" march moves, the troops on the opposite flank will be hard-pressed to join the fight.
