Hi all, i have decided after i complete my skaven army to 2000 points (which i almost have done) i will play a second army, and as i expand my skaven to 3000 points also build 2000 of the second army.I just need a little bit of help deciding which to play after skaven. My first and definate choice would have been chaos dwarfs had they plastic kits and an army book but i guess i will have to wait for those, i will play them eventually though. Now, in order of how i am thinking of going at the moment: High Elves 45% I like magic which is why i included a seer in my 2k skaven army and have always been a fan of elves, i cant play wood elves as my brother has the army already (though i can borrow it, so you could say i already have 2 armies). I like the models and theme of elves and having just got the 7th edition rulebook and read the background about all of the races they seem like a definate choice, and i love the white and blue scheme that games workshop has used on them. I think a 2000 point army would be good and hopefully they are next in line for some sweet new models too. Tomb Kings 25% Again, a magic army, but for some reason i like them more than the vampire counts even though im a big fan of vampire things, such as van helsing etc. I also like the mummy films and tomg kings look fun to play. (NOT as fun as skaven mind you ) I like the Ushabti as well, however im still not huge on playing an undead army.Dwarfs, Dark Elves or Chaos 10% 10% 10% My final three choices of which i have no favorite at the moment. Dark Elves simply because they have a lot of cool models and are magicy too, the are themed around similar background to the high elves and if i didnt play high elves i could see myself playing dark elves. The cold one knights just rock. Dwarfs are not magic, so i dont know why i like them, i just feel i could play an army of them again (they were my first ever army before i converted to skaven) and they now have newer models. And the complete opposite of skaven. And finally chaos, probably a mortal army maybe beasts, i like the models i just dont know if id stay interested and dont know which god to choose from. So any help is appreciated, im leading towards high elves as you can see but i just want some ideas, pros and cons for them all would be good and please no bias "play dwarfs because i do" or "i like high elves" (since that doesnt mean I will) i want to know about them how they play and why i should choose them over the other races listed. If i dont get much in the way of feedback i will probably start high elves when they are rereleased this year, as well as skaven of course

i think your idea of waiting for high elves to be re-released is the best. they are a very different army to skaven (which is always a good thing to look for in a second army) and if they're soon to be updated it seems like they're the best choice. |

Yeah thats the main reason i put them first. Would it be able to do a cavalry army? Use tyrion as the lord and have lots of silver helms, dragon princes, reavers etc - and chariots, and then maybe some infantry or war machines to back up if i cant do all cavalry. ps - is there a forum dedicated to the high elves where i can ask for some help? |

there sure is. asur.org.uk its where a major campaign is raging, skavenblight hangs in the balance i would say you should use a balanced high elf list, as i find that specified armys arn't as fun to build and can get boring quickly. build them how you did your skaven, ie, a little bit of everything until you find your niche. |

Skaven were always my first love. But after having them for 10 years, I wanted a new challenge. I bought tomb kings because I loved the models and the mythology of ancient egypt. I also liked the fact that they are very different to skaven. You'll get to use a smaller army of troops that never run away. After a few years with them, I bought, you guessed it, high elves! Again this was very different to either of the first two armies which is why I bought them. Despite being all different, all these armies have something in common. They have certain glaring weaknesses and demand a level of tactical skill to make work. And that is the sort of player I am and I suspect you are. Before this becomes the story of my life, my main message to you is: if you are anything like me, you will enjoy using both the high elves and the tomb kings. It really depends on how much of a rush you are in. If you can wait about 8-10 months, then wait for the new high elves, if you can't then get the tomb kings, because their update is a long way away, and once you have got the most out of them you will want to move on again, and the high elves will be waiting! As for me, I have a load of high elves to paint! Best of luck.... |

I started Tomb Kings as a second army to Skaven, and it's going pretty well so far. They're not a horde, they're extremely reliable, and without magical assistance they're pretty slow- pretty much the exact opposite to Skaven. One thing though, is that I've heard they don't do well in small games (two characters are compulsory- and not cheap points-wise). However, I've played two 700pt games and won both with no real losses, so they can't be terribly flawed. The Tomb Kings models are fun, too. Chariots look great! Don't have any myself though, (yet) so can't say how good they are to paint/glue. ps. Isn't it compulsory to have a "This poll is stupid" option? I may be wrong...- -

Good call on the high elves. I have played them for the past 6 years (as well as dark elves and empire). You could quickly build up an all cavalry force i.e. 1000pts worth in no time. Then you can get gaming before expanding to a balanced out force. Two tips: (1)This combo of mages rocks Mage 175pts (Hero) Level 2 Wizard; Jewel of Dusk; Ring of Fury Mage 175pts (Hero) Level 2 Wizard; Silver Wand; Ring of Corin (2) Eagles are probably the best unit in the whole game.... you can use them as sucidal budgies/ assassination/ march blocker/ bait / you can get them where you want when you want them Get a few!!! (I have 6 ) |

personally I'd go for Chaos, they are the ultimate opposit as to Skaven. If you'd still want to go for heavy magic take Tzeentch. greets GSS p.s. I dont like those pointy ears

okay i narrowed this list down to just high elves and chaos. I was thinking high elfs doing a cavalry force of silver helms tyrion and dragon riders but then a cavalry army is small and not great on the pitch if your playing a good opponent, so that started putting me off. And people said it would be no fun to play so thats a no. So a high elf army with cavalry archers and infantry is an idea, however theres not much i like about the high elves other than the cavalry LOL so i was thinking of doing something else insetad. And evil/bad is more my thing so i was thinking of going for a chaos army made up of a mix between mortals and beasts. I dont know what god to do so i might just stick undivided. Eitehr that or nurgle or khorne but i dont like the other gods as much in fantasy. I could have a couple of 15 strong chaos warrior units and then some beast herds and some chaos knights and probably a shaggoth. What do you think? Cheers |
