Cheiftan Cazgars thread just got me wondering, if all the 14 armies were paired up into either allies or mortal enemies who would be together?

enemies obviously:
dwarfs & orcs
high elfs & dark elfs
wood elfs & beastmen
skaven & lizardmen
etc

allies i can see a few combos

Dunno about all the others.

Skaven have no ideological objections, I think, to allying with anybody. They'd even ally with Lizardmen or Dwarfs if it benefitted them. (though neither the lizardmen nor the Dwarfs would accept, for obvious reasons)

However, Skaven do have ideological objections to actually honoring alliances. They'd backstab their "allies" as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Any alliance involving Skaven will be short-lived.

i think that high elves and dwarfs wouldn't ally normally

however, with the empire to act as a buffer they would probably join up to fight for a greater cause

dark elves and chaos as allys? i could see it working, being as they're both not the friendliest of people, and the dark elves living so close to the wastes, if they arn't allys then they'll be bitter enemys anyway

Guess what. They're bitter enemies.

But I'd say they're sometimes willing to work together, or at least some of them. The Cult of Slaanesh thingie from the storm of Chaos is a joined dark elf/chaos force.

Skaskrit is right. The Dark Elves have towers along the borders of their domain and the northern wastes to watch for incoming Chaos incursions. They fight often. It's only when Slaanesh has seduced both that they come together ... so Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, and Undivided Chaos do not play nicely with Dark Elves :P

It'll be a funny one, since the warhammer world is designed so that everyone dislikes everyone else, or else we wouldn't be able to justify all those games we play, eh? The races most likely to ally would have to be the Good combo: high elves/dwarves, empire, brettonia. There's the "/" there because it'll either be the dwarves or the elves, you won't see the both of them together. On the side of evil, druchii, chaos and skaven are likely to team up only as far as it suits their individual purpose, and will turn against each other once that becomes more beneficial. They wouldn't be allies, more incidentally fighting alongside each other and hoping that the other will do the fighting and dying as pawns instead of them. The thing about evil guys, is that they don't make friends very well :P. Lizardmen, greenskins, tomb kings, and woodies tend to keep to themselves only. Then there's ogres, the neutral race that'll fight for anyone as long as they get fed.

true i suppose so probably wont see many allies and when we do is good/evil. Ive seen lizzies and woodies allied up a lot of the time but not sure how that works, except they like trees.

What about enemies? i would of said we skaven are enemies to lizardmen most as lustria etc but then arent we a pest to everyone on the surface world? :)

i'd say that woodys, h'elves and chaos are forces we arnt likely to face, and so are not likely to be enemys as such.

wood elves because we dont go into their forrest, they don't come out. h'elves because its hard to imagine us popping up in ulthuan, and i'd of thought our preferred method of travel was on foot, on foot underground, not by sea. and then chaos because we don't often fight them, they see us as pawns as we see them as pawns, so we are likely to stab them in the back, that is before they swing a axe into ours, so not allys, more nuetral entitys that watch out for each other. also, didn't we invent flayer kin for them or something? i'd imagine chaos would be keen to keep fresh stock of those coming in, so keeping some sort of alliance would be good.

everyone else however should be our enemies. i mean empire is a no brainer, TK are as well. we tried to destroy the brets once too, so them as well. dark elves have a big enough land mass to have a sizeable amount of skaven beneath them, so its likely we have skirmishes with them too. lizardmen obviously. dwarfs obviously. orcs and gobs because we fight them for the right to kill dwarfs :P . vamps are tarred with the same brush as TK and empire as far as i'm concerned, so it makes sense for us to attack them too.

Quiet, I'm plotting.

much like i said in Cheiftan Cazgars post, I think any race could ally with any other, as long as you can come up with a really good, plausible reason for them to do so.

None of this cheezy 'They put their differences aside to work together' rubbish. Reasons that sound almost obvious when you write them out, as if it is surprising no one else has come up with that reason for Skaven and Dwarfs to fight on the same side.
