Squeak come one come all, a new online campaign is starting soon. Tricky things about this campaign is as it allows you to build a virtual army, build a huge horde of your favor vermin. Take your virtual vermin and inherit... the bell has been casked once again.

shall you inherit?

Why? well you can build an army online and battle it out... so far i believe the campaign is setting us up against the wood elfs in the beginning. So lets kick some pansies butt!

If you need any help joining the campaign please post here... otherwise heres some juicy bits to get you excited about the campaign.

The World has changed, the Light is flickering and for the second time in nigh on two thousand years the entire of the Old World lies under the threat of war. The ancient empire of the Dwarves is being stretched to the limit with attacks from both above and below. The Greenskin menace defeated, another force is harassing their empire from above, and another from below. The exiled elves, in the west too lie under the threat of this under empire, which is even now beginning to muster in strength. To the South a mighty empire of Men has declared war upon all of the Elder races that hold Humanity under their sway.
The Real evil lies to the north, there the hordes of Malekith gather ready for a battle to begin the reclaiming of the old world, in their wake come the forces of the four who use the Druchii themselves as unwitting allies. But hope remains, for in the lands that the Druchii hold a new Empire is being forged, and an Alliance created.
Morrslieb is rising in the Sky, Mannslieb is falling and in the sky the twin tailed comet soars through the heavens. This is a time of total war; this is the Hour of the Wolf.

Triple Entente forces:
Sarthailor
Dwarven Empire
Army of the Reik
The Wild Hunt (LIMITED FACTION)

Forces of Ruin forces:
Hosts of the Everchosen
Druchii
Nehekhara
The Council of Thirteen (LIMITED FACTION)

Whoa. Verminguard are lookin' badass.

OK so I suck at drawing, but I will attempt to help yall to visualize the image of these guys. For starters, bear in mind that the StormVermin are the black furred and biggest of all Skaven today (current timeline). Now imagine the difference in size and strength of the average Empire Halberdier man, and compare that to the massive size of a Chaos Knight. That is the size difference between the Verminguard and the Stormvermin! The Arnold Schwazne-rat is all white furred, covered in the heaviest of armour available to the Skaven, and finer than what the Stormvermin enjoy. They wield creuly curve swords that have their blades inlaid with Warpstone edges, and are well accomplished in the use of these sowrds and their sheilds. Due to the blessed nature of their birth, not only are they huge and strong, but they have deft control of thier prehensile tails. Thes tails are also covered in warp tipped barbs, scythes or maces, and are viciously used in combat.

Thus, if you are a Skaven, to anger the Grey lords is to invite these terrors of the tunnels to come down on you in vengence. Thier bulk fills the tunnel so that you cannot get around him. As he advances against you, you are faced with a very skilled swordsman with shield and a tail that is also capabale of dealing death. All his weapons glow with the sickly green of warpstone. And you know that he will not lose heart and run, even if you get lucky and gain an advantage. He is a Verminguard, the retribution of the Greylords; the enforcer of thier holy will, and he is bred never to flee from combat.

So yep they are pretty bad ass. Perhaps a little too much for a standard Skaven unit, but this was done with a specific purpose for our war. This point in time is prior to the Skaven Civil War, and to the leadership is the Greylords. Reportedly the Greylords were protected by their chosen servants, ablino rats that were both bodyguard and hired muscle. These albino were well feared but we know not why, so I decide to venture a guess at why they had this legendary reputation.

I thought to include these legendary albino thugs as part of an effort to replace missing clans' units, and as an effort to give the Skaven a balanced list for this war. Being an online campaign, the computer must determine the battle all without player input, mid battle. This really removes the abiltiy of Skaven generals to lay traps and completely swarm the enemy. So the only solution is that the Skaven list needs some uber unit that can stand toe to toe with the best of the enemy, hold them for a bit and allow the slaves, clans, giant rats to swarm in and flank. Stormvermin are good and can match perhaps Longbeards, or maybe even Eternal Guard, but they are not quite up to that task when compared to Dancers of Loec, or Hammerers, or Khemri Chariots, or other Uber Infantry we haven't shown you yet. A Skaven uber unit would need to be able to hold the line on its own for a couple rounds against anything. Rat Ogers are OK but not very armoured, and slow and clumsy attacks. A unit was needed with better skill, better AS and still a good armour cracking ability.

I used Avians Design a unit page and came up with the following

Skaven heavy infantry - 4pts
Heavy Armour - 2 pts
Sheild - 1 pt
Anointed weapons - magical attacks - 1pt
Elite +1 WS and + 1 I - 1pt
Best of the Best - further +1 WS - 1 pt
Legendary fighters +1 attacks - 4 pts
Strongmen +1 S - 1 pt
Stubborn - 1 pt
Total 16 pts per model

so we end up with 2 S4 attacks that are magical, fighting with WS 5, and defending with the advantage of HW + shield for a AS of 3+. I made a couple dozen test rolls against Hammers and Ironbreakers and these Verminguard basically gave as good as they got. they are not exclusively preferrable to Stormvermin, as they are double the cost and so much less numerous, so I think that both units will still have their place in the Skaven arsenal

Many thanks to Vinz who helped to give me info that led to me comin up with this idea, and helping make them Skaveny enough. He has shown himself a fairly honorable rat, keeping his big teeth shut about these guys. Hey Vinz, have a pint or two and PIODT! :P

Sorries, but I don't think I'll be joining... last time I tried to join another campaign, I kind of sputtered out. Plus, MP is keeping me busy. :P
