Like the title said, I want to know how to make animations. The only drawing software I have is paint, but if there is something good that is free to download then I'd use that.

I'd appreciate any help.

what type of animation? i believe that either macromedia flash (best for actual animations or games, like on www.newgrounds.com or a lot of the things on Ebaumsworld) or Macromedia Fireworks (for making little .gif animations like in people
s avatars)

ive got some experience in animation (mostly in flash). it's not a free progrram but you can download a demo i believe. read the PM i sent you.

Quiet, I'm plotting.

yeah, depends what kind of animations you want to do. The syle, where they will be viewed, your budget, and on and on and on.

Online cartoons are pretty much the domain of Flash. Animated gifs, Adobe ImageReady or Macromedia Fireworks.

Then you can go hardcore. Pencil draw animated sequences, 24 frames per second, scan them in and colour them/compile them. Edit it in some movie editing software, or get a custom frame animating program.

Claymation. Stop motion. The list goes on.

Angelfire used to provide a free animation programme as part of their website hosting thingbob. It was a crude thing that worked based on putting a string of images (each image had to be made and saved separately) together and then compiling the whole thing as a .gif file, with some simple transition and frame time effects available. A simpler version of Imageready, in a way. I'm not sure if they still provide the same service but you might be interested.

that's how most .gif file-creating programs work. you can always just copy/paste and change whatever aspect if you want to do something simple like an arm moving or scrolling text

i find macromedia flash works best......what grade are u in? if ur in high school u can ask the teachers for a copy and stuff like that.(worked for me :D )
Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live... at least for a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!”

I use to do mine (see my avatar for example) in Adobe ImageReady.
I make the pictures, layers, effects etc in Photoshop, then animate them in ImageReady. Haven't tried Macromedia Flash though.

Using ImageReady, just save optimized as... (gif)
Then upload to photobucket, Imageshack or whatever.

I suck at it, but some people use the GIMP to good effect for avatars etc. (just search "GIMP image software free download" on Google, or similar).

I'm using something at the mo that's quite good (mostly for stop motion), but it's only a 30 day trial and I can't remember the name...
