A Time For Redemption
Chapter IX: Fall of Vinhaus

The battle still raged on at Slavedocks, but the fire was burning down. Most of Morkskittar's supporters had surrendered after learning that the Slavelord was dead. Only a few still fought.

A smile touched the lips of a rat standing on an overhang far above the fighting. Slavelord Vinhaus watched the fires below burn, almost completely ignoring the presence of the Underslavelord Melthaussen standing behind him. Both rat's eyes were filled with a joy at the slaughter. Clan Morkreek was theirs; no-one could disupte it. None of the original Morkreekian dynasty still lived.

Or there are none here, Vinhaus amended himself. Many of Morkskittar's distant agents still operated, like Ratikkaal and Karil. Some of the old Slavelord's lieutenants lived as well, such as Warlord Krakke in Mourninghold and Warlord Kirilken in Skavenblight. They live. But they can't interfere. Besides, most of Clan Morkeek had left already, going their own way. Only a few, misguided loyal souls (like Krakke and Kirilken) hadn't yet abandoned the Clan.

Movement in the shadows caught Vinhaus' eye. The rat sensed Melthaussen's gaze follow his. There it was again... climbing the cliff wall. Vinhaus stared at the spot for another minute before dismissing it as a trick of the eye. he turned back to watch the battle from his vantage point.

The Assassin made himself known by the gurgling of Melthaussen. Vinhaus whirled around as the Assassin kicked the Underslavelord's corpse off the overhang's edge. The black-cloaked figure stood in the way of Vinhaus' only exit. The Slavelord knew, at that moment, that he was doomed.

It was not in the way of Vinhaus to surrender. He snarled and drew his blade. He would fight to the end. The Assassin lifted his arms and threw back his hood, showing his grinning face to Vinhaus. The Slavelord paled. Jakith! He's one of Karil's lot! How did he get here? Vinhaus thought no more thoughts as the slash of a dagger ended his pitiful life.

A flame went up on the overhang where Vinhaus had stood. Karil grinned. That was the signal. It was time. Roaring, Karil fired two of his pistols in unison and charge forward. the Korsairs and Explorators followed, brandishing weapons of all types.

Clan Morkreek would be his.

Hours later, Karil was disappointed. There hadn't been enough killing. Most of the Skaven had surrendered immediately, and now sat before the conquerors in chains. maybe the Korsair Kaptain would kill some later... but not now. He had to make his Clan strong.

"I am Slavelord Karil!" shouted the Korsair. "I shall lead you through these times of trouble! Never again shall you follow a false and untrue leader!" Silence greeted Karil's words.

"You are all thus freed from imrisonment. You are all members of Clan Morkreek. You are the survivors. You shall not die!" Well, not all of them at least. "Your bonds of servitude to Morkskittar and Vinhaus are thus cut!"

More silence. Karil's rousing speech wasn't... well, rousing. Karil growled and turned to Captain Pawblight. "Free them," he muttered under his breath. He had to contact some friends...
