'Gunrats'; Clanrats with Dwarf Handguns!

I have been thinking about putting together a Skyre list for an upcoming campaign against Dwarfs, and a unit I think would be cool to include and model a unit of clanrats with dwarf handguns. Like they have recently killed thunderers and not had time to improve on the design yet. Opponent has already agreed if the rules are fair.

Some questions though;

What points? I was thinking something like 8 or 9 points.

Also, should the +1 to hit 'superior design' be dropped (as its skaven shooting them).

Lastly, should the Gunrat Clawleader be able to swap his handgun for pistols at no extra cost?

Fellow skaven, your opinions are needed.

Dwarven handgun costs seven points for a Dwarf warrior... I'd say you'd drop the +1 to hit and add a misfire on a roll of 1, and you could field a unit of ten points per model.

By the way, as this goes more towards Houserules then actually something with clan Skryre, I'll move it towards that forum.

Yeah, that sound pretty good to me too. Might play with those sometime. Got an old dwarfplayer who recently started to play them again. Might get some guns of him. Then I can make them :D

As a general principle, making something worse than in their parent list, for more points, is usually pretty well accepted - but only if it is something which doesnt form obvious synergies.

For example, people frown upon skaven heavy cav.

However, skaven handgunners, which arent too far a stretch of the imagination, and dont necessarily unbalance an essentially infantry+shooting army, and are likely to not enjoy any of the skaven special rules (like Strength in Numbers, due to their formation) are probably fine.

I'd just field them as clanrats + 4 points (or whatever the handgun approx. points value is) minus shields or standards, lose the +1 to hit rule, and add the 'move or shoot' and 'reliable 'rules. This makes a fluffy, mildly effective addition to your force which adds to the visual effect, and does it at a greater cost and lesser benefit than the parent army (empire/dwarfs) would enjoy from the same troop type.

Or you could jack it up with warpstone and be like a small jezzail.Just half its strength and armour piercing then make it reliable
