So I've just got my hands on a whole lot of ratmen that need a' painting but I'm not sure what to do. #1. they're from the Nordland area, so I figure their fur should be quite dark but I'm not sure. What colour do you guys think Northern Skaven's fur would be? #2. I got my hands on an old archived chaos character who's going to be converted to a BSB. I've done the arms and standard but the main problem as of present in the fur. I want to sculpt fur onto the open skin areas but I'm not sure how. So...tips? Cheers Poly |

Totally your call! They could be dark-furred, due to fighting hard against the tough man-things and chaos-things in the north.... Or pale-furred, to allow them to move over the snowfields in the safety of camoflage.... Or just plain brown-furred, cause they know what's right and stay below ground.... Your call.... What do YOU want?
I do the same as the person who did this article [Linkage][/color] |

With a little Green Stuff, more/extra fur is pretty easy. Once you have a small blob on the area you want to 'fur up', use a pin or some other pointed metal tool and begin making a series of lines. Once you have one row, repeat another next to it, and so on, until the surface looks a little like a wheat field from the air (""""""""). After that, repeat the process again to get a more natural look, blending the lines. This method worked out well for my plastic Rat Ogres, as I didn't want them to look too much like posable action figures. It doesn't take too much to get it to look right, but spending a little extra time on the area you want to 'fur' is worth it. As for the main color of your forces - decide on who's in charge and how they keep things that way. The black-furred Stormvermin could be a small but powerful minority in an otherwise pale-furred clan, or vice-versa. Up to you! |
