I allways cut the big ones in half and model most so they don't stick off the base.

Ive cut some of skaven tails in half too. Makes them look docked.

I was thinking of 'docking' all the tails in all my slaves regiments. Shows they've been enslaved, sort of thing.

Wish I could plot like you can, you must have a mind like a corkscrew to turn all those scheming corners

another way is to just have the outer models with full tails and the inside ones cut off to the needed length itll still look like a full tailed unit
Shhhh I'm not here

I find arranging a regiment from the legs up works wonders, all me rats have full tails and rank up well, numbering your bases helps to keep ranks looking tidy as you can make sure that they all fit together.

I try to swap tails with my skirmishers and clanrats. I use the tails that stick out the most (like the tail with the blade) on my night runners and gutter runners and the ones that don't (like the tail with the loop and ball and chain) on my clanrats.

Thats exactly right. Mine are all numbered, and fit together almost perfectly. All you need to do is spend time finding out what ones fit where (I glued them before ranking them) and the regiment works fine. Sure, the tails may not be the best design (Plague monks are MUCH better) but still, they arent too much of a hassle...

Bunny ear says flop

Model them rank by rank and take the shields (to be added later) into account while doing so... I've got all my rank-and-file units marked with a colour-code and number so I know exactly how to rank them up.

My army is nicknamed Gnasha Squeek's Tailless Wonders. With good reason. The clanrats and slaves all sacrificed their tails to clan moulder. Not only do they fit together perfectly, but the lack of tails throughout their ranks has really developed their camraderie. They rarely fail leadership tests as a result.

Having a tail i think encourages you to 'turn tail' and run away.

Have to agree with Vilepaw on this.

It takes some time to set up the unit for battle (especially when you've got two units of 30 each <_< ), but I find numbering your bases and assembling the rats with tails and all before gluing them to their bases works best. I've done so with 2 of my clanrat spear regiments and they're all complete with tails and shields. Though I must admit I have cheated on a few models and put the shields on the back (but it still looks cool, mind you).

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

Keep as much of each model on it's own base as possible. I take measures to make overly dramatic parts easier to rank, such as removing the blades and handles from the left hands with swords [leaving just a fist like the rest of them], because, frankly, I despise those hands. Also, dramatic arms can be cut and changed, or placed in such a way that they do not affect ranking [like pointing directly up in the air]

Large tails can be shortened, and most of them can be attatched close in to the body.

Or, just don't use the large tails, and grab some greenstuff:

Now theres a good idea!

I personally don't run any Clan rats but my monks follow the same rank-by-number idea and just keep the trouble ones on the outside edge.

I use a lot of the tails whole and cut others in half, like most people here

ok, so i am having the same kind of trouble still. I just got a bag of 20mm x 80mm bases (ie 4 in a row). So far this is much better than the single bases and will be much eiaser to move them around (even when im using trays). Still they are very hard to rank up. I dont have to much trouble shoulder to shoulder now, but tail to face is a mess. When you guys were talking about docking the tails, I thought yo ment cut it in half and use the thinner part so its just not as long. I dont want to be missing the tips of the tails! Why dont they just use the orc 25mm for skaven, empire, ect and use the next size for orcs?

Man this is frustrating, the bases are obviously undersized for the task. Yeah I know that it can be done, but is it worth it? I mean the models look great, but then thier is the shield problems, and then you have to try to paint them!!!

Well if someone can help out with other suggestions, please do. In the meantime I'll join in the good fight against dryrot and rust. -D
