I have assembled and painted a lot of clanrats for my warlord army. I wantes to get a good hang on what I liked in the skaven army list, etc. etc. Now I would like to make a nurglitch army, I love clan pestilence and want to try it out but before I would like to see if the're a way to convert my slaves and clanrats to look more pestilence like. Something easy that would'n need to paint everything again. I did'n paint my slaves so far so it's really all about my clanrats. Anyone as an idea? Maybe given them on overall green wash? Small spot of rotting flesh?(I dont even know how to do that) So him turning to you. |

When I think of pestilens I tend to think of all the great blights that have afflicted the world. The black death, leprosy, gangreen, etc, etc. To convert any unit of pestilens (other than Plague Monks) I'd rely heavily on adding thinly rolled out greenstuff bandages. Apply liberally, but well shy of the point of mummification. I'd wrap arms, legs, snouts... I'd also get into lopping off arms and wrapping the stumps. That would help make them look leprous. A friend of mine made a nurgled space marine army by giving his plastic models the hot-needle treatment. He heated up a needle and poked his models repeatedly. This would give the appearance of buboes (the symptom of the bubonic plague). I'd do it in clums of 2-4 on skin showing regions of the model. Another easy way to make a unit look afflicted is to just apply LOTS of plastic glue. It'll melt a model's face or any other part of their body, making it looked like someone threw lye on them. Or badly burned. I found this out by accident, but I love the effect. As they are nurglie, add spikes/spines. Use scrap plastic from a sprue, or the tips of leftover weapons. Or greenstuff. For slaves specifically: I am keen on the idea of having plague monks pushing the trebuchet or siege wheelbarrels with dead skaven bodies on it. A good source of dead skavens would be the Skaven casualties from the Mordheim range of minis. Are those still available? Lots of folks chain their slaves together, too. I'd be inclined to use a nice, braided string instead, as Clan Pestilens doesn't strike me as being heavily into metalurgy. It'd also be a cheaper conversion than using chain. It should be easy to tie knots around a few necks, apply a watered down PVA coating, prime and paint to your already assembled slaves. Hope some of these ideas help. Ultimately, though they are only ideas for conversions. I'm not much help for painting tips. If you come upon a good way to get a gangenous look or a good way to paint the pustules/sores, please let me know. |

Do you think the neelde trick could work on some already painted clanrat? The whole point his, I dont want to repaint them all. Him mostly looking for some minor tweak that would give that pestilence look to clanrats. |

If you did the hot needle, it would damge the paint job a little, but as you'd then paint the area to look infected, it'd still be quite a minor change |

I tried it out a bit, but the needle seem to cool down to quicly. I had to make it hotter after each hole. Maybe I should let the needle in a small plaque on the oven and use a pince to manipulate it. If it work out I will probably modify one unit of clanrat in case I ever use rotten rodents. |
