I use Iexplorer, and have no complains about it. My good computer was out for a while, and so I "borrowed" another one. That other computer did not had a firewall on it, and I enjoyed the freedom very much. Now my good computer is back(Meaning I can use such big programs as wordpad and mediaplayer again ) and the lack of freedom and speed this evil firewall provides is realy bugging me. Its like... a democracy where you can only vote on rightwing parties... so evil...What I want to now is, can I get rid of it on this compuer, and if so, how? And make it easy... computers are not my thing.

Well, the usual way would be to uninstall the firewall. |

In which way does it bug you? For example, if you have that tax-program from the 'Belastingdienst' I can already tell you that service pack 2 has some firewall-thing (don't know the exact terms) that blocks access to the Belastingdienst-server. Really annoying, though your firewall program doesn't really have anything to do with this. Trust me, it's really not that bad to work with an anti-virus/ firewall program... I'd contact whom fixed your old PC and inform him of the problems you're currently experiencing. Meddling with programs isn't usually a good idea (I once tried to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus, after which my harddrive had a meltdown, cause it seemed to be an integral part of the bloody software system... Something with missing *.dll-files all of a sudden). Greetz |

Wow. Bas plays WC3... ...What's sad is that there are two people like him on Bnet. That said, I've got the same problem as Bas, but I've found it's just the firewall. Bas, what type of program is your comp (Windows, mac?) Might be able to help, not to sure though. |

What's your firewall called? There probably is a file with the same name somwhere in your start menu, and in that file there ought to be an uninstall option. You should also be able to just shut it down, by right-clicking the icon in the system tray if there is one. Otherwise, you could always use the brute-force method of pressing ctrl-alt-delete and shutting down the firewall process. If it's an integrated windows firewall, I'm not so sure. I'm one of those cavemen who still don't have Windows XP, so I don't have one. I suppose there'd be an option to disable the firewall somewhere though. |

Hit start, go to Help and Support (Should be on the left hand side of the start menu), type in 'firewall' (No space between fire and wall), and then click 'Enable and Disable Internet Connection Firewall'. It'll give you directions from there. |

Bas, are you using any firewall program, like Norton Anti-Virus/Internet Security or are you just on the standard Windows Firewall? If you have the windows firewall, i recommend you turn it off like Jackety said, and buy the Norton software. I have a hacker-friend (not an evil cracker, but he has the skills) and he showed me what he 'could' do to an unprotected server. The same could be done with a PC, so Norton and the like are very useful, and help your computer be faster and more performant. If you have the Norton firewall, click it on, and press 'Personal Firewall' in the Norton Internet Security' page. then click 'configure' and follow the instructions. hope that helps |

Quick Windows XP Firewall disable: Start -> Control Panel -> Security Center -> Windows Firewall (lower left) ..... click OFF then Ok. That said, I use a firewall and it runs just fine. I've also never had a problem with static/dynamic IP's, since most ISP's leave IP's unchanged for months or years if you're using something like DSL or cable. I have a DSL router too... no speed issues there. The biggest slow down of everything I have ever seen is .... lack of memory! If you have < 1GB of memory then upgrade! I went from 512MB to 1GB on my work computer and it made a tremendous difference. |
