Oh well... another Skaven hero soon to be sold... I was quite happy with Queek's final price, so I did another special character. The freehand in the book could use some work, I know (probably a total repaint ) but I had no exact idea what I wanted to paint, so the effects are as you see. Anyway, excuses apart, here he is.

i think its the use of highlights, its kinda big step between each layer, i think its that. from very dark to almost white, very fast. |

Nah, it's not dipped. GW's Flesh wash used on the robe gives that effect, which was exactly what I wanted to achieve - and I guess I succeded I used Vallejo Cayman Green as a basecoat, gave it a heavy Flesh Wash inking, a black glaze to make it even deeper and proceeded to rehighlight with Cayman Green with some Flesh Wash added and then with Cayman Green with increasing amounts of Kommando Khaki. The "dipped" effect is probably increased by the varnish, supposedly matt, but still shiny. Before you mention it, no, I could not take a picture prior to varnishing - the Flesh Wash shines more than any varnish I know, with the fotons bouncing off the inked area, my camera went a bit crazy... |

Swingu, that Skrolk model is awesome. The red, brown, and black of the book compliment each other very well, and a whole unit of monks painted up like that with the red hoods would be pretty amazing, especially if led by him. I just finished another Skrolk myself, and to be honest I can't really see your dissatisfaction with the book. It looks like it turned out particularly well (especially considering that these are close up pictures) and I can't really think of but one or two of the dozens of high-quality skrolks I've seen that has a better book. I guess it depends on what you were going for...the quality of the book is great and matches the rest of the model, I could only see repainting it if you wanted it to look more like the one in my sig (which I didn't paint, for the record). But speaking of that, Do you know how you'd go about repainting it? I have a skrolk too that turned out very well save for the book. I did the paper up the same as you, but now it's matte varnished. I can't say I've ever really 'turned back the clock' once I've had something painted. Would you start with the basecoat for the paper or with chaos black/scorched brown or something? |

Well, I DO like the text side of the book a lot. It's the picture that I don't particularly like - it lacks something, but I'm not sure what. PErhaps it's just that a burning castle does not have to do much with Skaven... Oh well, I'm not going to repain it anyway, but if I do another Skrolk again, I'll just paint a big rune or something. |

I dont think this is one of your best paint jobs. I will try to tell why. a. there are no shadow on the nails. b. the rope looks kind of boring, use more thin highlights and more colours. c.I agree with you, the book looks wierd in a way, maby its the flames. I like the flesh and the cencer colours. but hope to see more from you. |

Thanks - that's what I needed I knew that to try and overcome the tendency to pain a lot of stuff very fast will result in worse overall effects while learning new triks, but still... it ain't easy  |
