Warlord Desolation Maligniklaw Warlord Maligniklaw is the sole autarch of Clan Anarskisttar, settled beneath what the man-things call the middle mountains of the Empire. At the time just preceeding the Storm of Skaven, clan Anarskittar was little more than a mining operation, battling with competing clans over the tenuous copper veins that ran beneath the mountains. Clan Anarskittar subsisted at this level for countless years, using slave labor from its neighboring clans and the nearby goblin and beastmen camps to gouge out whatever scarce resources the mountains would offer. This would all change when warlord Maligniklaw was approached one night by emmisaries of plaguelord Nilax, an unheard of name from the distant west, who's exact power and authority were shrouded in mystery. Nilax's ambassador, Skritt, offered Maligniklaw's clan dominion over its competition if it would aid Nilax and group he represented in an elaborate mission involving the invasion of the chaos-thing, called Project Supremacy. Of the mining chieftans approached by Nilax, only Maligniklaw had the strength of ambition to overcome his own paranoia and accept Nilax's offer. Maligniklaw led his army as part of a task force sent to seize control of the Nordbergbruche. After the success of the attack, Maligniklaw turned his attention to his rivals. Joined by frothing plague monks from Nilax's Bassilicus Bubonicus, and Skryrian engines of destruction courtesy of Nilax's ally, warlock Kreninthratch Kripsqueek, Maligniklaw tore through his opposition and united the disperse mining clans under a single banner. The actions of clan Maligniklaw during the next phase of the Storm of Skaven are a mystery, although there have been whisperings that clanrats from clan Anarskittar were involved in an attack on the forces of Rattsu the Black and Verminous Fang beneath Middenheim, in an attempt to break through to the Doom Hemisphere. What the clan's motive in disrupting the detonation would be is unknown, and those who initiated the rumor quickly dissappeared. Following the mixed success of Project Supremacy, clan Anarskittar has returned to its holdings deep within the eastern middle mountains. Though lord Nilax had returned to Lustria, he left with Maligniklaw a detachment of his clergy, led by plague priest Skritt and his deacons, to use at his command. Skritt's monks serve a dual role of reinforcing Maligniklaw's power and keeping Nilax informed of his actions. Maligniklaw has taken no official stance in the recent civil war raging around him, instead tunneling deeper and deeper into his stronghold. The Anarskittar lair has become increasingly heavily fortified following the outbreak of civil war, with many false tunnels, gas traps, warp lightning cannon emplacements, and heavy iron portcullis guarding any possible entry point. Anarskittar have remained unusually secretive about their workings deep within the mountains, rebuffing any attempt by any outsiders, including representatives from the Children of the Warp and the Claws of the Horned One, from entering their holdings. There has been little concern shown by the council for Maligniklaw, as he is a relatively benign force who supplies Skavenblight with bulk raw copper, pays its tithe in tokens and causes little trouble. A source of much curiosity, since returning home from Middenheim, Maligniklaw has been accompanied by a small, grey-furred, red-robed bipedal rat creature who never leaves his side. This familiar of his is thought by some to be some sort of automaton that a distant power might be using to communicate with him, but it has been known to eat and visit the breeding warrens alongside Maligniklaw... Warlord Desolation Maligniklaw: It's hard to get any terrific pics with my digicam, but here are the best I could do, hope you like him. ![]() Maligniklaw is my warlord, I made him using these bits: Stormvermin Fangleader Stormvermin left hand Classic Warlord Mohawk and Sword Warlord halberd and banner shaft Brettonian Men-at-Arms shield (damaged with razor/blowdrier) Skaven clanrat shield icon Arrow from Skeleton Sprue Skaven Familiar from Plague Monk sprue with brettonian champion's helmet flag and men-at-arms miniature sword/shield-- I thought of this little guy like that weird, dwarf thing from the Island of Dr. Moreau who followed the doctor everywhere. ![]() Streaming seals from Plague Monk sprue Chaos Marauder flail top (Tail) Chaos Marauder shoulderpad Banner poles from Games Day 2002 chaos champion + jewelry chain Pistol from 40k Kroot sprue Cloak from Mordheim Middenheimer sprue Rats from Plague Monk sprue Aquarium ammonia-absorber rock & static grass Green stuff. I painted his armor by doing a basecoat of scorched brown over a black undercoat and then layering up through the reds. Then I drybrushed a mix of brazen brass and chainmail over the red and hit it with some really watered down brown ink. The warpstone was a basecoat of dark angels green, then snot green and some snot green+skull white highlights, a yellow ink wash then a green ink wash and some glossy varnish afterwards to make it shiny. The red cloth is scab red, then a couple highlights of scab red + skull white and finally red ink. The other metalwork is a dark angels green base, then tin bitz, brazen brass, a mix of brazen brass and chainmail and then green ink. The cloak is scorched brown, then drybrushed bestial brown and a couple highlights of bestial brown + bleached bone. ![]() Thanks for looking

Nice fluff and an insanely good conversion. I love it. A few closer shots would be nice though. ![]() Your digital camera shots look pretty good, but there seems to be a bit of extra light from the flash (im guessing.) Maybe if you had a little extra light in the room and turned the flash off, you could get some more pics. Might work, but my experience with digital cameras is pretty limited. ![]() Good paint job too. |

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. Good points about the camera flash and clutter: I decided to take a few more shots on a simpler background. They're under flourescent lamplight with no flash...still not ideal as it makes the colors duller. I guess if you combine the shininess of the flash pics and the dullness of the non-flash pics that's about what he looks like to the naked eye. Anyway, here is how they turned out. ![]() I usually like to go conservative with my Maligniklaw and equip him with cheap mundane gear, but my favorite combo to date has been Warpstone Armor, Enchanted Shield, Additional Hand Weapon, Foul Pendant, and Bands of Power. He can pack a mean punch if my twins have successfully drained the opponent's dispel dice, and he can tank just about all the normal threats in a battle with his 2+ armor and 5+ ward. |

Nice combo of equipment there! I do like the bands of power. Just for the look of horror on my opponents face, when my plague priest minces his ogre tyrant in a challange. ![]() Those pictures certainly look a better. Nice work. ![]() I think you can edit the pictures contrast etc with programmes to make them even sharper. Depends on which one you use I guess. |
