I've been thinking about a weapon I would like to see make an appearance in WHFB and that would be the Bastard Sword(for those of you who do not know what it is, it is a medium sized sword that can be used with one hand or with two) I was thinkning about rules for it and i think thay should be as follows. Bastard Sword: -The Bastard sword, being a medium sized weapon can be used in one hand and in conjunction with a shield, but also being a weapon with some heft it can be used in two hands and provide the bearer with +1 strength. Being easy to change which way you would like to use it, models in a unit can choose to change between one hand and 2 hands in different rounds of combat via swinging shield around back and grabbing it with 2 hands, or by only holding it with one hand and grabbing thier shield as well. points for this upgrade vary with the army- the only problem i see with this rule(besides the fact that i couldn't figure out how to explain it very well) is that they would have to start making models with the seperate pieces in case the player wanted to equip them with the bastard sword. tell me what you think... -Neanderthal05 |

Hm... Interesting... The only problem I see really is; when your deep in hand to hand combat, perrying and stabbing and things... could you really throw your sheild behind your back and grab your sword with your other had without getting stabbed in the gut in the process? I could however see it being like a powerd down great weapon. +1 strength, but you dont strike last. And it can just be used as a hand weapon. but no switching in between rounds of combat. |

I agree with Dagger for the rules bit, but I have a new idea. A Common Non-Magical items list that champions can select say, 10-25 (pending on unit/race)points of speacalised, but unenchanted gear. This could include Halbreds, Great Swords, Bastard Swords, mabye some armors, Flails. It would make champions more than just a character sheild, and into a model that has to be (if slightly) reckoned with. |

Ive always thought that Champions should be able to have different weapons to the rest of the unit... The ideas for the Bastard swords are good, but the wielders should NOT be able to change the ways they weild it in different combat rounds. To change it they should have to leave a ombat then fight another (like currently with swapping weapons) Entaro Adun |

yes yes... maybe you are all right, it is a little overpowered being able to switch during combat, but then what is the point of having it if you can just take a halberd as well and then switch between hw+sh/halb. ehh, i'll have to rethink the rules... -Neanderthal05 |

Wouldn't that mean its the same as taking a shield and a halberd, because if you take a halberd and shield it would still be the same because you can always switch back to your weapon that unit had before it was equipped. I think the rule is that you choose which weapon you are going to use at the start of that round of combat. |

Skritch is right; Stormvermin with shields, for example, can choose to use their halberd for +s or their shield and hand weapon. Bastard swords are cool but maybe some more innovative rules--How about something like armor piercing if used in one hand and +1s and armor piercing if used in two? Or something besides just strength modification since we already have halberds, great weapons, flails, morning stars, etc. |
