I really want to play bubonic court, but just don't see the list as feasable. How could we handle big stuff like dragons & Chariots and such. (Both of which my main oponent will have - Ork on Wyveryn and 2 Chariots) With no shooting and no magic missles fast moving stuff like that would have free range on the battle field and pick whatever battles they want. The list also seems limited in the Character department with having to take Nurglitch, while a great character a little pricey in a Skaven army and it sure would be nice to choose your lord depending on the situation. I'm being drawn back to Skyre it seems as they really seem like the most rounded skaven army. (Ability to handle pretty much anything) I currently have the Battalion, Extra Box PLague Monks and a Plague Lord and just started painting so i'm kinda at the stage now where i need to figure out what i'm doing (Clan Rats or Pusbags with the models). Even if i go Skyre i'll use 2x25 PLague Monks as i love the look of the unit and will stop cries of SAD. |

Hey, There is nothing to say that you cannot use Pestilens units in a Skyre army, perhaps your plague monks represent the muscled slaves that have to drag various pieces of metal around for their lords and as such are frenzied and want to rise up against their masters; or just take their anger out on the enemy. I agree that Nurgly is too pricey for a skaven army, you don't have to take him in games under 2000pts, so if you really want a bubonic horde that much you could play 500pts/1000pts games and bypass the problem. Giantrat : Well i can't stand small games so under 2K is no good (All my friends hate little kiddie games also, we like to make a day of gaming usually). I think small games should use skirmish rules. Garbag : Well it's his first army (As this is mine in fantasy) so we both want all the toys. I will slap him though anyways. I think i will go with a Standard skaven army with 2x20 Plague Monks (As this is what i have currently). Add a pair of Plague Priests and i guess it's got quite a pestilenz theme. Kinda sucks as i loved the idea of Frenzied Rat Ogres! Out of curiosity, Does anyone use the Bubonic Court list as there main list (For tournies and stuff) and how does it fare ? |

So just 'cause it's his first attempt doesn't mean it has to be bad :P. If he wanted to have lots of "Toyz" he should have picked a "Troll country Waaagh" and took 4 giants :P. |

So wouldn't an army with 4 giants be really, REALLY hard for a bubonic court to handle ? |

I use a bubonic court army but as i play in alot of independent tournies they allow the no nurglich rule ... in a typical 2250 game i have 3 units of 20 monks with FULL command(wish it was 25)..2 units of Pusbags with flails and musician....3 units of 8 censer bearers...and 5 bases of plague rat swarms...believe it or not i use the swarms ,since they are poisoned ,to take out the high toughness/hard nuts to crack units

Ruxx : Hmm, i had thought about Rat Swarms myself. Could even cast frenzy on them! I'm not sure about the No Nurglitch yet, as i havn't played at a store in ages. I think i'm gonna include him anyways though, as the List says you have to take him, so thats what i'll do. |

Dan - with the court list this is something I have thought long and hard about, well the big monster not the chariots. I came to the following conclusions: 1. we have lots of nice units to cover against the big flying things - PCBs and swarms; 2. if you know what the enemy has then you can deploy the army with a screen of skirmish units to rear and side. These units will cover the areas that a big monster can use to try and stop you marching (or taking terror tests, because they haven't worked out that you are immune to pych). 3. when facing a big monster (ie dragon) keep units close together so there is no room for his base to fit, then you can limit charges (or, if you do leave a gap, remember that if you flee from a large monster your opponent CANNOT redirect as he can see the all available targets!) 4. Plague can be very useful even against a big nasty. If you can kill the skinks on top of a stegadon, or the highborn on a dragon, they have to take a monster reaction test. Chariots you just need to ensure you get the charge, then they will be easy meat for a ranked up unit. I've been running a court list, with the big N, as my main list since the Lustria book came out. On the whole it performs very well, but like any army needs that thought up front. In other words, I do worst when I screw up the deployment. a few thoughts that I hope help. cheers Br. Buboe |

You can't cast Frenzy on Ratswarms. They're unbreakable, and therefore immune to all psychology. Even potentially benefial psychology effects like Frenzy. |

"I have a post-Armageddon vision. We and all other large animals are gone. Rodents emerge as the ultimate post-human scavengers. They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?" Richard Dawkins, The Ancestor's Tale | |
