Greetings Comrats,

This coming Wednesday is going to be a great day of tournament and feasting in my Warhammer group, and the main spectacle is going to be a big showdown between my friend's new Chaos army and my hand at a new Hell Pit army. The battle should be in the 2250 point range and I hope to make a battle report out of the result, so I want it to be as interesting as possible.

In that regard, I'd like to know what sort of tricks you've all tried out or thought about trying with the new list. Either in terms of unit selection, strategy, or tactics. I have plenty of models and something to represent just about everything, so all the new unit entries are fair game. I'm used to commanding the forces of Pestilens and Skryre but this will be my first attempt at Hell Pit.

My friend is an experienced Chaos general who has dedicated his entire life to Khorne. He will be bringing a new force of mortals and beastmen led by a Khornate dragon-ogre shaggoth. He may also be breaking form and trying out some beastman shamans (normally he is as against magic as his patron god). I expect to be facing maruaders, chosen chaos warriors of khorne, minotaurs, beast herds, etc. He has a very reckless playing style, in character, but he knows what he's doing.

Any ideas?

I only used the Hell Pit list once. It was great fun, except for half of my army getting smashed by my Rat Ogre being flung across the table, dice moving like bullets, hands reaching across the table, and my friend's foot (why you NEVER play on the floor).

I found that the list is very vulnerable to shooting, but you shouldn't really have to worry about that against Chaos.

I will just have to say that while CHimnaerat's MAY seem good (they did to me), Stupidity was surprisingly devasating. It was no use. I never tried a Burrowing BEast, but it could be fun. Instead of one of those big beasties, though, I would take an Aberration. Like spawn. I have used spawn, and the CAN be pretty effective.

I would also opt for at least two units of a fast mobile flanker. While Wolf Rats are NOT Fast Cavalry (they should be), they are very good flankers. I would take some of them.

Throtlings I would't take against Chaos. You already have enough fear causing units and an extra 10 points for Fear in a flanker like Giant Rats could be spen elsewhere.

And take a LOT of Rat Ogres, preferably Mutant ones with high strength. You'll need that punch.

Of course, I only have limited experiences and I am really tired as I type this. This is what I can think of right now.
