As I am a newbie to the Wonderful world of Paranoia, backstabbing, mass murder etc. etc... I was wondering what armies that most people use, do they go for the run of the mill Warlord army or do they build a Clan specific army. Myself I'm still deciding what to build and I want to hear from other peoples' opinions, who obviously know more about Skaven than me.. |

You should start with a normal list until you find a path you like more. This way, you can get playing some games and then specialize. You can also always go back to the basics until you get a really big army which has enough to specialize in any of the 4 clans. |

Heavily themed lists can look very good, and make a nice change from your run of the mill Skaven army. Good choice if many other people you know play Skaven. But I'll always advice people to make a fairly normal warlord clan type list. It may not be as original, but because you're not limiting yourself to a small selection of troop types it's much, much more fun to play. My army quite literally includes each and every unit in the list. It's not really themed, but makes for far more diverse options during a game, which counts for more in my opinion. Of course, many would disagree with me, especially those for whom the painting and theming part of the hobby is more important than playing it. The above does not truly apply to the Clan specific army lists published in various places. (currently, there are lists for Eshin, Moulder and Pestilens. None for Skryre, but they don't need it because all the new units in the official army book were Skryre.) I think these specialised lists can be great fun, as they do not suffer from the lack of variety just using the clan specific units from the normal list involves. (though the Eshin list doesn't have much new stuff.) But, as Whiteclone said, there's no need to choose right now. If, say, you're interested in the Moulder list, you can first make a normal list, perhaps with some extra Moulder units, and later add on the Hell Pit specific stuff. That way, you have two armies to play instead of one, and as many models can be used in both lists, it won't require much more effort either. In the end, this choice is entirely up to personal tastes. Read the lists, look at the models, and decide what's most important to you. |

"I have a post-Armageddon vision. We and all other large animals are gone. Rodents emerge as the ultimate post-human scavengers. They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?" Richard Dawkins, The Ancestor's Tale

GW, sucking the fun out of the hobby since 1999. Never worry. Worst case scenario you die, and then there was no point worrying anyways. Skaven repaint overhaul Number 5! (2/5th complete)
