Take a look at the army list forum. How many of the lists you see don't have a warlock? Maybe they're all onto something...

But seriously, it depends on the point size of the army you play. In games <500 points I think a warlock isn't needed. But from 1000 onwards, it almost becomes obligatory.

Why? That's how magic works in this Warhammer edition. The only way to reliably combat enemy magics is to have some wizards of your own, with dispel scrolls if at all possible. True, most of the time you don't truly need the wizards to survive, but some armies you'll face have magic so dangerous it will cost you the battle if you have nothing to counter it with. Ever faced magic heavy vampire counts with Zombies springing like daisies from the ground only to immediately charge your rear through Vanhell's Dance Macabre? You'll never leave home without a dispel scroll or two again, I promise.

Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?"

As for me i like clan Skryre
and i always atlest one engineer.

I normally use 2 of them
All of them with Warp-blades
Warp- energy condenser
Warp-power accumulator

#1 Storm daemon (extra 1b6 WL)
Warpstone amulet (4+ ward save)

#2 bands of power (one extra spell)
Eye of the horned rat (one extra power dice on 2-6)

Give you one bound spell
4 dispel dice
6 to 7 power dice
And you can cast 3 WL spells 2 2d6 and 1 1d6

I’ve caused enough fear of lightning some people will never wear wool again Dev

Darth, you should note that the eye of the horned rat will never benefit and sometimes harm you.

Two warlocks fully equipped can use no more than 6 powerdice as an absolute maximum. They can cast warplightning with 3 dice thanks to their technoarcana, but no more than that. They only have one spell. Stormdaemon provides it's own power. So, you should drop the Eye and swap it for a dispel scroll, or perhaps something fun like Deathglobes. (or save the points and get an extra rank of clanrats.)

I maybe just a newbie, but after playing Bretonnian for several years, every Skaven Army I went up against they all had atleast one Warlock Engineer. Most had atleast two.

If you used properly they can be pretty dangerous

Just ask my Knights who have been BBQ on more than one occassion :duel:

It's definitely worth it! :) My Warlock kicks butt! *mumbles something about 'unless he dies in the first round for reasons best not dwelt upon'* But you could say that about anything Skryre-y...

Only played the board game and watched people who aren't me play D&D so far; I got the name Demagorgon from Dr Faustus.

Enjoy warplightning...ing all your enemies with your new warlock! :)
