Hello Ratkin, For the 2nd Issue, The Pyramid Vault's magazine, the Green Lizard wishes to have comments on the Lizardmen army from players who play different armies other than Lizardmen. As I believe everyone has good knowledge when playing with the Skaven Scourge, what do you believe are the Lizardmen's strong/weak points, and how do you use them to your advantage when you are playing with Skaven? I'm looking for the best answer, as only one response from the Underempire.net will be in the mag. Thanks a bunch, -Phil |

i have played against the lizard man army a few times and found that they have to focus on magic completely or on fighting and if a large unit of seranis breaks from 3 clan rat units and is run down or is obliterated from shooting each unit has payed for itself easily so in short lack of flexibilty in magic (exculding skink priests there just toad fuel) and high unit cost is the two major weak points or at least that is what i have noticed about them and some strong points are very strong fighting i have witnessed a lord on a canisor just cut through units if your not carful and the tricarednon (not sure of spelling) can do some damge but can be shot done like most of lifes problems also the slann are second to none in termes of wizerdry and are near imposibale to kill sorry about the spelling |

I've played against the lizardmen several times and think that the army can be summed up as: very strong magic, more then decent fighting elite, annoying fast-assault units. With magic being one of those points were Slann simply rule the game, they key element is eventually to take that one down as soon as possible. How much grey seers and warlocks you put up against 'it'... You simply can't outclass him in terms of magic, so you should simply neutralize this thread. The Brass Orb is a very common item for this and a more then proven tactic to simply take the big pile of VPs it can give you and see where the rest of the battle will go to. Another point would be the strong fighting elite of the lizardmen. Saurus Warriors, Temple Guard, Scar Veterans, nasty lord-creatures on a carnosaur... All of these are fighting monsters that use our skaven warlords for breakfast. As such, you simply need to take them down where it hurts. Dwindle their numbers (ratling guns/ warpfire throwers) and nail them on outnumbering in combat. The biggest point here is NEVER to go one-on-one against these kind of units, for you'll most likely always be on the receiving end of what is going to be a very bad combat. One point of mentioning is that you're almost obliged to take monks and (especially) plague censer bearers when facing lizardmen. Next to being an extremely fluffy choice, these two units give you what you'll need the most: hard hitting attacks. The censer bearers should be put against the biggest unit of your opponent and simply run towards it full speed... Trust me when I say that your day will be made, when you beat his 320+ points costing saurus cavalry unit with just 100-ish points of censer bearers. Next to claiming a decent amount of VPs, you've just taken down what is most usually the terror of a skaven army: a possible flank charge! Last point are the fast-assault *shudders*... units, like for example those flying terradon creatures. For long-range shooting, these are your primary targets! Due to their "get out of combat"-rules, they can harass your lines on their terms. So take them down while they're not near to you and as fast as possible! Greetz |

The lizardman army's strengths are the ability to be very strong in any phase of the game, coupled with reasonable robustness, reasonable price and good leadership. Lizardmen's strengths versus skaven are the ability to deal out lots of damage over multiple phases coupled with resistance to the close combat attacks and induced panic tests and/or low penalty break tests that skaven can bring to bear. It can be hard work fighting lizards. Their weakness versus skaven, the same weakness that almost all armies share and thus not specifically unique to the lizards, is their low model and unit count. No matter the style of skaven army (shooting or horde), standing up to either often requires a high model (and unit) count more than it requires elite models. Factor in the high dispersal of points inherent in the well designed skaven army and the lizards can often be hard-pressed to harvest enough VPs to offset their own losses. |
