You can only fire from the front rank, or second if you are on a hill, he wouldn't be able to shoot out the side of the unit. |

see this is why i dont quote rules too often im usually wrong i figured in the back rank off to the side he has line of sight to those coming in at the side... if im wrong id love to have you point it out. as i like to think i make all attempts to play fair |

If a character steps into a unit, it has to play along with it. As such, it has the same line of sight as the entire unit (not 360). Greetz |

but if he jumps into the nightrunner unit behind it. would he use their line of sight? |

He'd use the LOS of whatever unit he is in. With the NR he would have 360 degree LOS like all skirmishers. |

isn't there a rule that you can shoot from any rank at a large target (sight arc still applies)? |

Ì think its in an line of sight faq. Mutade: Yep, it was:
Stupid rule, I thought we where supposed to view it as a representation of things, not litteraly? But with this they say that the first rank fireing litteraly means only a few archers fire their arrows, because on larger targets even the ones in the back can fire. Like if, realisticly, they wouldn't fire volleys anyway. |

You could argue that it is a representation. A large target is, well...large. If the whole unit fires volleys (as they would realistically) this rule represents more shots being able to hit because the target is so big. |
