Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but it never says in WD that Wolf Rats are Fast Calvary. This kind of limits their uses. Sure they're fast, but when most (if not all) of Clan Moulders creations have a higher movement then the other clans, it really doesn't matter. Unit Strength of calvary? Still ain't worth it. I don't think they even cause fear (That's why I love Throtlings). Seriously, why even put them in your Moulder Armies? Grey Seer Skittikch "Dance my child-things! Initially I used two units of 6 in the traditional role of chaos hounds (6 to get the outnumber bonus on most opponents who use units of 5). I found these to be lacking in reliability, and there is an abundance of units in the army that can perform the same or similar roles. Currently I'm using them in a unit of 12. With the additional 2 ranks (combat and leadership bonuses) they are more reliable and much more of a potential threat. Against chariots the 18" charge will count for a lot and arriving with a +3 CR before dice are rolled can be dangerous for enemy fast cavalry, small units such as artillery or even lone characters. Then the 3d6 pursuit comes in very handy. With the extra charge range they can also be great as a supporting unit for rat ogres, with the rat ogres dishing out the damage and the wolf rats adding numbers and ranks very cheaply. Once you've gained the upper hand in the flanks your army is much more secure. With the 18" charge you'll have a lot of potential reach that helps to compensate for the lack of shooting compared with the normal Skaven list. Also the 18" charge is great when combined with another unit that the enemy might normally flee from and out run. It adds another level of flexibility to your army. The unit of 12 wolf rats are often double teamed with a pair of quadruped brain enhanced rat ogres. So far they've worked well in bait/flee or just straight charges. The next option I'm considering is to bulk them up to 16 or even 20. Slightly more expensive, but with a higher leadership, the ability to suffer a few casualties prior to combat (and those all important panic tests) and against most opponents a guaranteed +4 CR before dice are rolled. Are these rat-ogre-rules official and usable in any game of warhammer? I would love to start a small moulder army, and I think the wolflike giant rats from Confrontation would be great for some kind of cavalary. The problem would be that they would have to be rare (DoW rules), but then I find this ![]() |

You need to use them as part of the Hell Pit list, and obtain your opponent's consent. If you dont like the Hell Pit list, and you are already going to obtain opponent's consent, you may as well use them as part of a normal skaven list anyway... |

That's what we do in our local gaming circle. Just gotta let your opponent know. I would go as far as stating how many units of them I will field, just so your opponents believe they have some advantage (yeah right). |

My group usually uses an open-list format, with lists often viewed days in advance. Sometimes we discuss eachothers rosters prior to games to ensure that we are taking effective lists (particularly the newbies), so the prospect of obtaining opponent's permission for specific unit inclusions or whole trial army rosters is no problem. So I can see one or more units, and indeed the entire Hell Pit list, getting a run in the near future... Of course, as the owner of the gaming venue, I have a pretty good say on what is permissable
