I like the model, it's a good idea... I will be getting a model, but I have never used it. Seems really fun to use, but maybe not effective...

I have two for my Skryre themed army and well, lets just say if you want to see its ture potential I would recomend playing with two.

Because at least one will be detroyed from overall bad rolls. :P

Seriously, one will.

If you want only to play with one then the only advantage it'll retain is as a diversion; the thing has a T of 5 and 4 W to boot!

I would only recomend ever using the warplightning it can shoot when your cumpulsary/charge roll has failed.

But overall a diversion unit (unless you roll with two).

Yup, then they become 2 diverison units!

There are "un"-official rules for it on the UK GW website.

Also located there are the "un"-official rules for the Queek Head-Taker, Death Master Snikch (sp?), Plague Lord Skrolk, and Ikit Klaw.

I often use a Doomwheel in my warlord army. In fact, I use it more often than a WLC. I really like the model and it DOES draw an unwarranted amount of attention from my opponent. Definately don't shoot with it unless you feel it absolutely necessary. Blasted things are VERY prone to exploding!

As for the other characters on the website, Queek was in an annual, so his rules should be as official as they get, and the Deathmaster was in a WD during the SoC with only a single change (they added the Sensei rule) so he's pretty much offical too.

You can probably find this link elsewhere on this forum. but here it is again:

I really think this is a question to ask your enemy... not everyone wants to play models that are "out-dated"

I think it is a "Opponents Permission" type thing with the Vermin Lord and Doomwheel, as Queek and the Deathmaster are can "Official".

I'll check......

Only the Deathmaster is an official character. Ikit Claw, Lord Skrolk, Queek Head-Taker, the Vermin Lord and the Doomwheel all need official opponent's permission (in theory then, I don't know how some gaming groups stand against this rule).

Yes I've used the doomwheel and it's one of those things that should go forward, blast some warp-lightning and then explode. Have I had decent experience with it? Well, apart from blowing itself up against some fell bats, being puncushioned by some fourty-ish dark elf crossbowmen (for three turns) and breaking apart from that hail of shots, it's still one very nice model to have on your battlefield.

I've used the doomwheel 3 times in the latest edition (played it lots in the older ones). It did really badly against empire as it was instant canon target, and following chariot rules died almost straight away. Against Lizard men I did a lot better, took out teradons, skinks no problem and did lots of damage to Kroxigers before going bang. I tend to find that the WLC does more damage (although I have only ever had one blow up once) and scares my enemies more, and you get an extra 50 points for more troops

So the WLC scares your gaming buddies more than a Doomweel? Wow. Just wow.

I personally never used it, but it can really be a good model; just so long as you pray constantly to the dice gods.

I have two, one of them lowered and with wider treads (well, the engineer sits lower, and the wheelbase is wider). I used one frequently in 4th and 5th editions. Well, actually, I used it all the time. It barely, if ever, achieved anything, but it was just one of those irrational points soaks I like to field (like 6th ed WFTs).

However, as far as 6th edition is concerned, I think the doomwheel is best consigned to history as an interesting peice of skaven memorabilia. I just dont see it fitting within this edition of rats. They do make a nice (large) unit centrepieces though ;)

I've always wanted a doomwheel but my mates are so up tight when it comes to opponants permission, i've also wanted to use a vermin lord

Here's a story to sell the doomwheel:

One time I charged (randomly, of course ;)) a unit of 16 Dwarven warriors. Shooting phase came around and I unleashed. 10 Strength. 3 Bolts. 17 Wounds. Pwned.

Misfired the next turn though. ;)

Of course, its unlikely that this will happen often but there is the possibility for humorous escapades going either way and that alone makes it worth it in my book, although not for every battle. It's one of those things you pull out every so often.
...And all this time I thought there was only one way to "retire" from the Council! What you call "retire", I call a "stay of execution"..whats in a word? DM Mik!

Uh... Llama, you can't kill more than 1 warrior per lightning bolt hit. No matter that it inflicts D6 wounds, it still only hits one model. It's like a character with the fellblade, he can still kill no more than 4 foes a round, not 4D6.

That's what I hate about the doomwheel. The lightning is totally useless unless you just charged a dragon. It will literally inflict more damage on yourself than on the enemy. What use is what basically amounts to a warplightning cannon with shorter range that inflicts no more than 3 hits instead of anything under a line and is destroyed on a misfire?

I still like it as a weird chariot, but it isn't worth the points and it isn't really fun if you don't dare unleash the lightning for fear of self destruct.

They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?"
