Moulder of Bitz

Okay, so in the new Moulder list there is a vatload of fluff, which mentions several Master Mutators. I'll be making up rules for these, and giving ideas as to how to convert them. First up, I'm sure you remember him from Skavenslayer, he's back, Izak Grottle! IZAK GROTTLE, OBESE BEASTMASTER OF MOULDER: 200 Points Izak Grottle may be used in a Clan Moulder army instead of Throt the Unclean or Ghoritch the Castellan, and must always be the general. He and Skitch count as a Lord and a Hero choice. Izak Grottle is a vast Skaven, affected by near-constant exposure to warpstone into feeling the Black Hunger constantly. Unlike his fellow Mutator Throt his mutation did not include a high metabolism, and so Grottle has grown extremely obese over his life, developing the habit of consuming his enemies entrails before their still-living eyes. Grottle participated as the representative of Clan Moulder in the unsuccessful siege of Nuln, where his plan to ship specially mutated rats into the grainhouses of the humans was foiled by the actions of Felix Jaeger, Gotrek Gurnisson, and (indirectly) Grey Seer Thanquol. Upon his return to the Hellpit, Grottle was furious to discover that another Moulder had begun producing his new breed of rat (dubbed Grottlings). Within a week of this discovery, his henchman Skitch (a gifted vatmaster) had overheard the name of this rouge flesh sculptor, leading to the death and consumption of the rival a day later. Grottle has since redeemed himself in Lord Verminkin's eyes, producing a magnificent siege weapon in the Grottlings and personally leading his forces (from the rear, of course) to victory over the Beastman shadow fortress of Sefdug, enslaving more than a dozen monstrosities for use in the pits. Izak Grottle: M:4 WS:4 BS:3 S:4 T:5 W:5 I:2 A:3 Ld:7 Skitch: M:5 WS:3 BS:2 S:3 T:3 W:2 I:5 A:1 Ld:5 Weapons and Armour: Handweapon, Light Armour and Whip. Options: None Special Rules: Beastmaster, Palaquin, Feed Me!, Grottlings, Skitch Beastmaster: Izak is a beastmaster who imposes his will on all of his minions, mutant monstrosity or no. Clan Moulder units within 6" may re-roll failed Physcology tests. Palaquin: Grottle is so heavy that needs to be carried around on a palaquin by his bearers. The palaquin itself appears to be some sort of cloth, but a closer look reveals it to be a mass of quivering flesh, sculpted into grotesque living furniture by Grottle himself. Izak Grottle causes Terror. He gets the +2 armour save for riding a Barded Mount. Feed Me!: Grottle's Hunger is even more powerful than Throt's and when deprived of food he can be... unpredictable... At the beginning of the game roll a D6. On a 1-2, Izak is affected by Frenzy. On a 3-4, use him as normal. On a 5-6 he is affected by Stupidity. This effect (if there is one) lasts until he or the unit he is with breaks another unit in Close Combat. Izak Grottle and any unit he is with may never pursue. Skitch: Skitch is Izak's most loyal henchman, a near-blind runt saved by Grottle for his remarkable skills as a vatmaster. Skitch is a packmaster in all respects. He is near blind, even with his extremely thick bifocals, and therefore always has -1 to hit. He tends to lurk behind others (even for a Skaven) and therefore enemy missle attacks only hit him on a 6 when he is in a unit. Skitch is the most skilled vatmaster of his generation, and therefore any unit of Mutant Rat Ogres he is deployed with may have an extra mutation, may have multiples of the same mutation and may take one mutation for free. Grottlings: Grottlings are large black rats afflicted by the Black Hunger with an astonishing breeding rate and short lifespans, but give birth to weak and defected litters after a few weeks, leaving the Skaven to claim what is left of the enemy area they have been released into. Clan Moulder armies led by Izak Grottle replace the Throtling unit selection with the Grottling unit choice. GROTTLINGS*........................................................ Points/pack: 50 Grottlings: M:6 WS:3 BS:0 S:3 T:3 W:1 I:5 A:1 Ld: Packmasters: M:6 WS:3 BS:3 S:3 T:3 W:1 I:5 A:1 Ld:5 Unit Size: 1-5 Packs (a Pack consists of 6 Grottlings a Packmaster) Equipment: Grottlings have none, Packmasters have a handweapon, a whip and light armour. Special Rules: Mixed Unit, Loss of Packmasters, Frenzy, Hatred, May not pursue. Conversion Ideas: Izak Grottle: You could base this model off either Nurglitch, made even more fat with application of some GS, replace his staff with a whip. Or you could use a Slaan Mage Priest (classic) with a tail, GS and a whip. Or you could go a far more ambitious route using Greasus Goldtooth, a skaven head, and LOTS more GS. Palaquin and Bearers: Zombie bitz and GS should do the palaquin, and some packmasters or clanrats with their arms going upwards should make nice bearers. Skitch: Use a Packmaster with Bifocals sculpted on in GS, or using small circles of plasticard etc. You could even base him off a PWG. Grottlings: Giant Rats (Necromunda, Classic, Plastic) all with black fur, maybe using GS to add a bit more bulk to the belly. Fronkensteen out. |

Interesting idea... the rules my mind could interpret seemed good (I am braindead at the moment). Izak Grottle caught my eye. He is a very interesting character in Skavenslayer (Book 2 of Gotrek and Felix's Adventures). |

I liking your idea it has a good background and good rules he also seems like a excellent edition to an army. I would grab him up for my army. I wouldn't mind to see the model of him either. |

Very nicely done... You've written it down correctly to the fluff given from Skavenslayer and the new clan Moulder list (Izak Grottle seems to have become one of the nine Master Mutators of Hell Pit), resulting in one very nifty character. Greetz |

Moulder of Bitz

Yay, Positive feedback! Next up, ruler of the penultimate circle of the Hell Pit, Scarskrex! Scarskrex may be used in a Clan Moulder Army instead of Throt the Unclean or Ghoritch the Castellan. He must always be the general, and counts as a Lord choice. SCARSKREX, THORN-LIMBED SNAKELORD OF THE EIGHTH CIRCLE: 175 Points Scarskrex is the ruler of the penultimate eighth circle of the Hell Pit, populated by those who have attempted to cheat this clan of mutators. It was the Snakelord himself who cooked up the plan to meld the still-living screaming bodies of the incarcerated into twisting thorny roots that writhe and constrict near the bottom of the Hellpit, their tortured groans and shrieks a warning to all who would attempt to cheat Clan Moulder. Scarskrex is perhaps most famous, however, for his vast and ever changing collection of snakes from around the world, from the giant Lustria Tiger Python to the tiny but deadly Khemri Sandsnake. Skarscrex is said to admire the deceptive deadliness of snakes, and often brings them to battle in a tide of slithering fangs. Scarscrex: M:6 WS:4 S:4 T:4 W:3 I:7 A:4 Ld:7 Weapons and Armour: Light Armour, Twin Thorned Limbs Options: None Special Rules: Beastmaster, Thorned Limbs, Slithering Pets, Wyrm Hybrids, Snakelord Beastmaster: All Clan Moulder units within 6" of Scarskrex can re-roll any failed Physcology tests. Thorned Limbs: Scarskrex's arms were long ago replaced with long, whip-like thorned limbs that whip around in battle, lashing at enemies and his minions alike. Attacks made in Close Combat against Scarskrex have -1 to hit. The Thorned Limbs are Two Handweapons that add +1S and can attack over any number of ranks of Giant Rats or Snakes, and one rank of Rat Ogres. Slithering Pets: Scarskrex is near-constantly surrounded by his current favourite serpents, writhing around him in a coat of grubby scales and flashing fangs. In Close Combat Scarskrex gains 2D6 S2 Poisoned Attacks that hit on a 3+. Note that these attacks may not be made against models with the Mark of Sotek. Wyrm Hybrids: Not content with merely having a large collection of serpents, Scarskrex constantly tries to perfect the "art" of hybridising his pets with other creatures, often with (for him) encouraging effects. Units of Mutant Rat Ogres can take the following upgrade: Serpent Components: The Mutant Rat Ogres have Poisoned Attacks. 5 points per model. Snakelord: Scarskrex has a vast and ever-growing collection of snakes from all over the world, and often sends the more impressive or mutated one into battle. Hell Pit armies led by Scarskrex replace the Throtling unit choice with a Serpent Pack unit choice. SERPENT PACK*..............................................Points/Pack: 40 Snakes: M:6 WS:3 BS:0 S:3 T:3 W:1 I:5 A:1 Ld:3 Packmaster: M:6 WS:3 BS:0 S:3 T:3 W:1 I:5 A:1 Ld:5 Unit Size: A unit of Serpent Packs is made up of one or more packs (a pack consists of 6 Snakes and 1 Packmaster). You can buy as many packs as you wish and add them together to form a unit. Weapons and Armour: Snakes have none, Packmasters have Light Armour, a Handweapon and a Whip. Options: None Special Rules: Poisoned Attacks Conversion Ideas: Scarskrex: Cut off a Packmaster's arms and replace them with whips from the new plastic boxed set. Snakes: For these guys you could use the snakes from the Lizardmen Jungle Swarms, or just rolls of GS with "eyes" poked on. |

I think you have made a really good job there and I would love to convert one. I have nothing bad to say about this, could not have made it any better and think we should use him in out moulder list.

3rd circle is ruled by Throt the Unclean (not Izak Grottle) 7th circle is ruled by Ghoritch, Castellan of Hell Pit Izak Grottle is by the way a Master Moulder, not a Master Mutator. Though, he does reside in the area of the 5th circle. Greetz |

Ghoritch is the Castellan of Moulder, not a Master Mutator, and therefore can't rule over the 5th Circle (and considering the fact that he's only existed since SoC there must be another ruler of it.) Throts the Unclean's laboratories are certainly on the 3rd floor. Is he a Master Mutator (in which case, yes he does rule over it). Where does it say that Grottle is on the 5th level? Is it in another fluff piece? (He's mentioned on the sixth floor paragraph, but not in the "he lives there" context) |

UK WD310, page 110: "Only Ghoritch, Castellan of Hell Pit, has the strength of will to keep the barracks in order. Without his iron rule the standing armies of..." followed by a lot of blabla. Basically, he seems to be ruler of the barracks. Skaven Armybook, page 69: "Throt is one of the most powerful Master Mutators...", which basically says he's a master mutator. And you were right on the fifth/sixth level, it was indeed number six and not number five as I said it. Though, when you're experimenting on a certain level, we can assume that your laboratory is there. Greetz |

Cool, so since GW have done two of the Circle Rulers for me, and I'm treating Grottle as one because he's cool, I now have... 5 left? Any votes? First one to answer with their vote wins automatically and gets a shiny new donkey! |

Carnistrik the Master MUtator Carnistrik was a harbringer of mutation untill recently when he walked into the old master mutators den, pointied his finger at the sleeping rat and screamed in ecstacy as at least 10 monstrosities entered the room and tore the rat apart. Carnistrik was then positioned as the Master of the Pits, where he puts monster up against monster. A rumour is that the winner of the fight gets the losers body parts (extra arms, hearts, heads...) but know one knows for certain. Carnistrik has a manifest destiny awaiting him... He hopes this future of his will involve a seat on the council... and he cant get it the right way, he'll go it the wrong way. ![]() squeeks |

Note to self: Never give control of my fate to the genreal public if the general public includes Vorg. Carnistrik may be taken in a Hell Pit army instead of Throt the Unclean or Ghoritch the Castellan. He must always be the general, and counts as a single Lord choice. CARNISTRIK, BLACK MUTATOR OF THE FIFTH CIRCLE PIT: 185 Points Carnistrik is the newest of the Master Mutators, having recently been promoted by the traditional Skaven rite of passage of "removing" his superior from power. He was, prior to his rise to Mutator, a black-furred Harbinger of Mutation whose specialty lay in the art of influencing the monstrous creatures that populated the Hell Pit. He built up a fortune in warpstone tokens manipulating the results of the near-constant battles for participating Moulders and bookies, making Rat Ogres slip or hold back at a crucial moment, or turning Giant Rats on their kin. Eventually this practice was discovered by his master Hrotgris, who had lost a large amount of warpstone on a Rat Ogre pitfight which had been fixed by Carnistrik. In fit of rage he called upon his Rat Ogre bodyguards to destroy this insubordinate Harbinger, only to be torn apart by the very monstrosities he had created. Surrounded by these creatures Carnistrik claimed the Fifth Circle for himself, a claim that was swiftly accepted by Lord Verminkin, who wished to keep this highly ambitious young Skaven where he could see him... Carnistrik: M:6 WS:4 BS:4 S:4 T:4 W:3 I:6 A:3 Ld:7 Weapons and Armour: Heavy Armour, Whip, Bloodmetal Blade Magic: Carnistrik is a Lvl 2 wizard who knows the spell Vermintide and Death Frenzy. He therefore starts the game with two warpstone tokens. Note that he can still cast spells despite wearing Heavy Armour. Options: None Special Rules: Beastmaster, Monstrous Affinity, Pitfighters, Usurper, Bloodmetal Blade Beastmaster: Clan Moulder units within 6" of Carnistrik can re-roll all failed Physcology tests. Monstrous Affinity: Carnistrik specialises in influencing beasts to do his will, forcing them to avoid attacking him. He has even been known to do so with non-living beasts, tapping into what little sentience they have left to control. Monsters, Mounts, and Monstrous Mounts must pass a Leadership test on their own Leadership to attack Carnistrik. Riders of mounts that cannot attack Carnistrik may only hit him on a 6. Pitfighters: The veteran Rat Ogres of the pitfights that rage on the 5th Circle are used to fighting without Packmasters, and equally accustomed to being hastily "upgraded" with crude weapons and armour between battles. Hell Pit armies led by Carnistrik replace the Throtling unit choice with the Pitfighter unit choice. PITFIGHTERS*......................................................Points/Model:60 Rat Ogre: M:6 WS:4 BS:1 S:5 T:4 W:3 I:4 A:3 Ld:5 Gladiator: M:6 WS:4 BS:1 S:5 T:4 W:3 I:4 A:4 Ld:6 Weapons and Armour: Handweapon Options: May have Great Weapons (+5), Addtional Handweapons (+5) or Shields (+5) ............May have Light Armour (+2) or Heavy Armour (+5) ............You may upgrade one Pitfighter to a Gladiator (+15) Usurper: Fairly new to his post, and still not trusted by his fellow Mutators or the Clan's allies after his meteoric rise, Carnistrik must prove his worth to the clan before being given access to the more rare or powerful creatures. Hell Pit Armies led by Carnistrik may not take Augmented Rat Ogres or Chimerats. Bloodmetal Blade: Filched from the twitching pulp that was the body of Hrotgris, this flesh-coloured scimitar is a symbol of the authority of the ruler of the Fifth Circle, its twisted connection to beasts everywhere allowing the wielder a modicum of control between the pitfights. When rolling spells, make a single roll on the Lore Of Beasts magic table. Whatever spell you rolled becomes a bound spell within this item with a power level of 3+. This magic weapon may be used alongside the whip as an additional handweapon. Carnistrik: You could use a packmaster or cheiftan for the base of these model. Just paint the fur black and the blade red. Pitfighters: http://underempire.net/index.php?showtopic=10391&st=0 I can say no more. |
