It adds on points to the slaves, and slaves are used as cannon fodder by me and almost everyone else, and we don't want them to be more expensive. |

It has probably been tried, but not by me. The slaves would barely hit anything at all, and they would cost more points. Slings are just a point sink for slaves. |

You'll pretty much be hitting on 6s or 7s. Your base is 5+ but things like range, movement, and doublefire enter into the equasion as well. I really don't consider it worth the points. =( |

Though it would be neat to say to your opponent "I shoot with my 40 slaves at your Bloodthirster with their slings." |

yeah although theyd hit about 1/12 of their shots and wound 1/6... then a 4+ armor save... youd get very very very few wounds thats a lot of dice though. ever faced hormugants in cityfight? he was using cups to measure dice. |

i would say they suck. Sorry, but its true. For one unit os slaves with slings, you could have 3 units of slaves! I find that sort of stupid.... ive been tempted to have a string of 40 slaves in front of my army.... stand and shoot baby ![]() but then again... warpstone tastes really bad |

I don't think it will work. As Mork said, they are usually used as cannon food and their ballistic skill is even weaker than goblin's or gnoblar's. |

slaves with slings cost 4 points, so you could only have two slave units for the same price. I've always wondered if it would work but I've never actually tried it, on paper it dosn't look like they would. but woundn't it be cool to pick up every dice on the table then tell your opponent you have to roll 4 again because there arn't enough, downside is, for every 40 or so shots about 3 would hit |

He never said what the size of the unit of slings was.... I occasionally find uses for them (note once or twice), as they do look imposing to those that dont know better, and surprise those that do when they flake a wound off something important. That and 20 slaves with slings only cost 40pts more ,which isnt that more expensive, but definately reserve for larger game with point to blow (although it does mean i get 4 less warpstone tokens...) |

i field a unit of 40 skaven slaves set up in 2 ranks of 20 with a musician yes its a doubling of their points cost, but its so much fun when they get charged... stand and shoot ![]() the sheer volume of shots released will often take down a couple of knights, or potentially 15! greatswords, who then get picked apart by any unit with a decent US, or hell, even a smaller unit of slaves with a handweapon hitting them Skar. |

They're disappointingly ineffective, as you'll see when you do do the math... 20 slaves stand and shoot (second rank can't see.) They shoot twice at toughness 3 knights at short range. That's 40 shots hitting on 7s. (-1 for double shots, -1 for shooting at chargers.) That's a bit more than 3 hits. Wow! On average, 1.5 wounds, and after saves about 0.25 casualties on the knights. If you're standing on a hill with them, they will on average kill one knight about half the times they stand and shoot. Worh paying 80 points for? |

I never ever give them slings. (they can't hit water standing on the bottom of a lake) I rarely give them shields. (they're slaves dammit!.. they're supposed to die!) I sometimes give them spears. (makes the opponent very insecure at times; will you flee or hold. It can give you an edge) I always give them a musician..if I can spare the 4 points. (the odds still suck big time, but the %gains for a measely 4 points is just too good to be true) There ya have it. Use it or loose it. :ph43r: And besides... having 20 slaves stand on a hill waving slings is a freaking waste... of a perfectly good hill!! You're wasting bait and a good spot for REAL shooty stuff. And I've yet to encounter an opponent stupid enough to even consider going out of their way to 'take out' a unit of slaves... jesus. "Stand and shoot"?? That'll be the day... Sorry if I come down a bit too strong, but a shoelace and a pebble aren't worth the double slave cost. It's like the Gouger on a Seer; a no-no. Apart, both item and unit are ok! Together, they're useless..(or hilarious...pick one) One last time.. in case you missed it: never ever give them slings. |
