Lore of Heavens and lone characters

I got basically chewed up alive for saying this on the Pyramid Vault, but, does anyone else think that the any-unit-on-board spells are too powerful? It makes it far to easy for opponents to kill lone characters and more importantly, weapons teams. If they can successfully cast them (which isn't too hard) you can basically say goodbye to your weapons teams and lone engineers. Does anyone else agree that the character-within-5" rule should be in effect in this situation?

As for nominations: Frankie, of course, because I love to vote for him and watch him fail

I agree. Its not good when certain armies (like Skaven) suffers alot more from a lore like that.

I agree... but rules are rules, and some spells should have that.

Maybe they should only have 1 spell that comes from above like that in the next edition.

Discussion on this should be made at http://www.lightalliance.com/hammer

I wonder if Ricold will give me a title if I get enough people over there....

I don't hink that heaven is broken. It is fine as it is.

Yeah, they will nail your weapon teams. So what ? They cost next to nothing and benefit from a character specific rule for targeting and can also be classed as superior material, so what if the opponent has ways to get to them, that is just normal, and balanced. Nothing is entitled to invincibility.

As for your engineers, just put them in units, that's all. In many years as a succesful skaven player, i never fielded them alone. This is a true weakness, as a normal opponent will kill or break units nearby, to make him do Ld checks on his mighty 5, geting him almost all the time, without even touching it. And there are already many ways to ignore targetting, so i don't see much benefit of putting him alone.

Just imagine, cavalry players that get hit with no save lightning. Its as bad, if not worse. But the player who takes heavens do so to exploit one weakness of the army he faces, like we all do. You put globadiers when fighting knights because of no save, why he can't take heavens ? I take ( i most often take it) the cannon and when i play skaven, i snipe the ratlings. Why ? Because i can target them with it and kill them. Same for heavens.

There are already so much people whining about weapon teams pseudo-invincibility, so when someone manage to finally find a way to kill them, don't think it is lame :P I personally found at least 2 to 3 ways to get them with every army available, with one or 2 exceptional lists, like khorne daemons

IMO, the comet and re-rolls were already toned down, as well as the number of armies that can field that lore, so it don't need to get battered down again.

GW "addressed" this with the revised lores in WD #264 they improved Life, despite making 'rain lord' a lot worse they improved the rest of the lore better (mostly by increasing range). Beast was also improved (cause nobody ever used it), but they also scaled back Heavens quite a bit by adding ranges which makes it reasonable to use. Personaly my friends and I always use these revised lores.

Revised Heavens is better. I expect when 7th edition comes out that the lore will have more changes to it. I personally don't mind them being able to target anywhere on the table. This is very powerfull against Skaven weapon teams but then again this is what dispel scrolls are for.............

i don't think that loh is unfair as said earlier it's ok for us to complain abt loh but when they start complaining about globadiers it's a different story

I am fine with heavens lore, except for the comet. I play against lizardmen heavily, I've simply learned to play aggresive with my weapon teams, and keep heros in units always.

It makes it way easier when I do have to do this, its amazing freedom.

The only thing I have a problem with is the commet, It needs to be dispellable, the damn thing does way to much damage.

The comet IS dispellable, both on the turn it's cast, and on subsequent turns.

It's only not a "remains in play" spell in that killing the caster doesn't stop it from dropping... you can dispel the thing just fine using dice.

They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?"
