Zombie Pirates of the Vampire Coast; Anyone have any experience with them?

I'm an Undead junky, but I've never finished an Undead army. I always collect bits and pieces then ultimately sell them off only to buy more a year or so later.

Ever since seeing the Zombie Pirates list, I've had ideas for an army knocking around in my brain. However, I am hesitant to put money into this right now as it requires a special character which means games of 2000 pts+ are only possible. I like to collect my Undead in small chunks and currently I can at least play warband games with what I have.

I wanted to know if any of you have played against or started collecting a Zombie Pirate army. Is this army list worth the effort I'd have to put into it?

The Zombies of the Vampire Coast is one army that has to be heavily converted. When I saw the list a few WD's Back Ago, I liked it alot.

Many units can easily be made by mail-ordering bits, and ordering different sprues and the sort. Infact, things like Animated Hulks, and Zombie Gunmen, would be very, very easy to work with.

The other problem I have with the Zombies of the Vampire Coast is that the army has to be based around the messed-up Special Character of Luthor Harkon. The only problem with him is that, like the Red Host of Tehehauin, and the Nurglitch Bubonic Court, has to have him as the front and center of the army. This prevents you from using the Zombies of the Vampire Coast in games like Warbands, and Border Patrols. So, you can only play against the ZotVC is in a 2k+ game. :(

you can also use them as a wargear item some crystal skull i forget the name and you can field one unit of them... tho the wargear is 50 pts... and i forget where use it from i think its in the campaign booklet that came in a whitedwarf... been a few weeks since i used it

think i do remember about them... is they cause terror when they are summoned in a pool of water

Yeah, you can use a single unit in the Lustria campaign as Dogs of War if you pay 50pts for the Ebony Skull to summon them. VC can also use them outside of the campaign as a Rare choice.

I don't mind converting the minis. I like converting but hate painting. I don't do a lot of heavy conversion with greenstuff but the pirates seem easy with just swaps between a few sprues. I also have a HUGE toy cannon in my bitz box just dying to be turned into the Queen Bess (originally I was going to scratch build a Hell Cannon).

I am thinking now that if I don't like the Zombie Pirates list, I'll just use them as regular zombies in a pirate themed VC army. I have the WD they are in, I just wondered if anyone has played against them or with them and how well they work.

I'm hoping my opponents around here will let me use them in Warband games like a VC army. Let the Shipwights lead the army.

Just use the rules for an Empire army instead. They will be able to flee and stuff of course, but perbaps its smart zombies :P

Yes, but if you kinda play this with an Empire Army instead, you loose the whole feel of a Zombie Army, when the "Undead" Rules don't apply to the Empire Army :(

Instead of using them as Empire, it would be easier to use them as VC and add DoW cannons to it. Then the only converted models that wouldn't have the Undead rules would be the cannons.
