Heya all,

Since I started Skaven in January, Ive never used Ratling or Warpfire throwers cuz they have a bad rep and opponents are happy when I dont have any.. but losing too many games- some opponents dont see the appeal in a soft list :) So i am adding some guns..

Wondering if 3 is a good number for both 2000 and 2250?

I have 1x Ratling and 1x Warpfire already.. what should the 3rd one be? Warpfire is handy for panic and fire on treemen and others vunerable to it.. ratling is handy for well.. kills

I really dont think opponets would be happy with 4 guns.. so i gotta pick one for the 3rd one..

some additional info.. i play with 5x clanrats and 5x slaves plus a bunch other stuff.. and i use a grey seer

Cheers
Roger

The usual rule of thumb is a weapon team for every 500 pts. Ratlings are still prefered while 1 WFT is sufficient for its slightly more specific tasks. I'd say go with 2 ratlings and 1 WFT for 2000-2250 pts. Having the WFT is ok, most opponents don't label them cheesy, so they don't add up to you having 2 ratlings.

It depends on your playing style and personal preferences. You don't need any weapon teams at all to win. (although they're a great help against some opponents) It also depends on how much other shooting you have. If you already field 3 warlocks, 10 jezzails and a warplighting cannon, you'll get by without weapon teams. If all you have is a scroll caddy, bringing some ratlings along is going to be a great help.

Personally, I use 1 warpfire thrower and 1 ratling gun in games this size. I find it to be plenty against the vast majority of opponents. I use one of each because I like variety and because they excell against different foes. Sometimes they're my only shooting weapons apart from my mages, sometimes I also bring a WLC.

(Oh, and the rule of thumb of 1 per 500 points... that is the maximum you can bring before everybody starts calling cheese, and then only if you're not bringing all ratlings.)
"I have a post-Armageddon vision. We and all other large animals are gone. Rodents emerge as the ultimate post-human scavengers. They gnaw their way through New York, London and Tokyo... within 5 million years, a whole range of new species replace the ones we know. Herds of giant grazing rats are stalked by sabre-toothed predatory rats. Given enough time, will a species of intelligent, cultivated rats emerge?"

I'd go with another Ratling because it is more versatile. The WFT is useful but is more limited than a ratling. In 2000 pts I usually field 2 ratlings and just leave the WFTs at home unless I know I am fighting something with low Ld (sweet-sweet panic tests!). My ratlings are deployed in the center and WFTs work best on flanks so you can hit as many models as possible.

I think you are on the right track. Two ratlings guns are not bad. Three ratling guns? It really depends on the rest of your list.

I currently use (2) ratling guns, (5) jezzails, (1) WLC for shooting plus (2) Warplock Engineers. I can still field four units of clan rats and four units of slaves.

I think Fool Injected has a perfect shooting. It is not too overpowerd, while having a good range of firing. I would stick to what he is using, with maybe some jezzails if thats your kind of thing.

As a general rule, I say 1 per 1000. Warpfire throwers are really unlimited as people are too shocked that they actually see one!

When I play, 4 guns is called cheesy for 2K, and 3 is okay. 2 is my dieal number anyway. Enough to scare your opponent, and yet cheap enough for you to have many troops.

2 Warlocks (well, Magic, but similar effect)
2 Ratling Guns
1 Warpfire Thrower
2 x 5 Jezzails
1 WLC
20 Poison Wind Globadiers!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA! :D
