I've been thinking about buying the OK book for a while now. I have a couple of ideas for adding them into my Skaven army. However, I also have a couple of questions I'd like to have answered before I commit to ordering it. 1. I plan on converting rat ogres to act as Lead Belchers. Mainly, I want to use them in Siege battles. From what I understand, their weapons can do a lot of potential damage to defenders on the ramparts. I am assuming they can be used in a Skaven army (are there any OK units that cannot be bought as mercenaries?). What type of slot would they take up: Rare?(Probably) Special?(Doubt it) 2. I've also thought about using the Ninja Ogre Maneater just because I like the model. What slot would this use up and are Maneaters even worth it? I have no clue what they do, I just REALLY like the model! Any help would be appreciated as nobody I game with has a copy. I'd hate to order it only to find out I can't do what I want to. Especially since I have no plans on actually fielding a OK army. |

so you mean including OK models as dogs of war in your skaven army? the idea has been brought forth before but im not sure whos actually done it before. The leadbelchers modeled as Skyre rat ogres with built in ratlings or whatnot was under considderation by a couple players, myself included. maneaters are like normal ogres... except, bigger, scarier, nastier, and all around better. and a hell of a lot more expensive. to my knowledge they can take a brace of handguns (2x multiple shot range 24 handguns that i think count as pistols in combat), a cathayan longsword (+1ws and maybe +1something else as well, i forget), or a great weapon (s7!!). the great weapon one would be great for taking out chariots (eshin is lacking strength most of the time) or armored opponents. the longsword would giv eyou a ws6 model. I advise the great weapon. unit size is i think 1-5 for maneaters, 2-5 for leadbelchers |

I play both OK and Skaven, so I know both armies. You cannot get any OK unit as DoW... just Maneaters, Leadbelchers, Bulls, and Ironguts. Leadbelchers really aren't that great... you still have to roll to hit for all of the shots you roll, so they aren't as effective as everyone thinks (I know thios first-hand)... I like the conversion idea... The model is super... and Maneaters aren't a bad choice. they would use a rare, and they are customizable... they are kind of like Ogre characters. |

DOW units: bulls (the basic guys), ironguts (basic guys with great weapons + heavy armor), leadbelchers (big guns) and maneaters (big guys). They all take a rare slot per unit (I think maneaters take 2 slots, not sure) Myself, I will probably use my ironguts in my skaven army. I explained a couple days ago (in the DOW thread) how I plan to use them. Basicly it's 5 ogres with the runemaw banner (rebounds spells to friendly units in 6") with some slaves (mostly gnoblar models) just beside. These are exactly what skaven need: brute force. With my ironguts in heavy armor, S4 + great weapon, "immune" to magic, that's what I'll have. Leadbelchers look a lot like a ratling gun unit, each ogre costs 55. In siege battles, I admit they could do a lot of damage. Maneaters would be worthless in sieges though. They have 5 attacks at WS4 S5 plus cool options (+2S or +1WS, +1I, A.P.) but they have 3 wounds at T4 and only have heavy armor, so they will get shot to bits in the first turn. And for their nice abilities (stubborn, no panic, can have S7, fear) they are mostly useful in CC, but they won't make it in a siege and you just lost ogres at 90 points each. A lot of people thought about rat-ogres as ogres. I myself have a gorger converted from a rat-ogre. Limed the fur, put a hook instead of an arm, put a big rock in another, cut the tail (obviously) and change the head. Also, I found out the reaper "ratman" will make perfect yheeties for only 7$ canadian (you have to change the head though) If you have army builder, the ogre book isn't a must. Except for the "monster unit" clarification and the gut plates, there are no special rules. Though if you are considering starting an OK army, you should buy it as this book is my favorite, it's reallt nice. Unfortunately, there's no painting section (well... 1 single page). |

I was considering using them as DoW, but decided against it for now. They only have a 12" range and only fire at S4... not exactly a cannon here. Plus, the number of hits is very random and they can only shoot (the second time anyway) after taking a turn of not moving to reload. Plus, we're talking hard cover on the walls and LB's use BS to hit... not a good combo. |
