I'm color-blind (I see colors, just not as wide a spectrum as the rest of you) so when it comes to mixing the various colors I don't get anything out of it. Thus I was wondering what colors schemes some of you have been using that don't involve mixing paints or watering things down (I do see the differences made by inks and drybrushing though). Thanks. |

I have the same problem as you do, actually. Blues-purples, Greens-browns, Reds-oranges-yellows? I just read the bottle Personally, I just don't mix otherwise mix in easy to remember ratios, as there is no way I can match anything perfectly after my paint has dried. What color schemes are best? Well, just make something up! I just pick a color and go with it, usually it turns out fine. And if it doesn't then I have my friends there to make fun of me until I change it. Skaven pretty much have a normal color scheme. Some type of brown for the furs and then whatever you want for the rest. Usually earthy tones are most common but you can use anything you feel like.Just ask someone if you're not sure! |
...And all this time I thought there was only one way to "retire" from the Council! What you call "retire", I call a "stay of execution"..whats in a word? Aye, it sucks to love the game and be colorblind. I was just wondering what colors some other people were using, especially other colorblind people, I'm always up for new ideas. For those who aren't colorblind, here's an idea of what I can/can't see. If you have that ancient issue of White Dwarf when they released the Asdrubael Vect model for Dark Elves in 40k, I tried the Dark Angels Green with Jade Green (or maybe it was Camo Green) outline on some Dark Eldar warriors. I couldn't see anything but the Dark Angels Green on my models after it dried, it was too similar. This doesn't mean I have to use contrasting colors like black/white, blue/red/yellow. But if someone says to use Enchanted Blue and then Icy Blue, I'm likely to see no difference between the two once it has dried. Thanks Again. |

I rarely mix colours when painting Skaven, and just use the pure ones. Fur - Scorched borwn then Bestial brown drybrush... Skin - Scorched brown, then dwarf flesh then Flesh wash/chestnut ink armour - Boltgun metal then ink wash of whatever colour you like cloth - whatever base colour your army has... or random to make each rat an individual You dont have to mix paints to paint well, but it can help... I also know a person who is colour blind. he started the hobby ages ago, but never continued it coz of his colour-blindness... sad really... Entaro Adun... |

I think if I was in your shoes, I wouldn't mix anything since you can see the difference with drybrushing and inking. Why not just try a standard color and then ink it? What little I have painted in my army was done like this: Flesh: Dwarf Flesh then Flesh Wash Fur: Vermin Fur then Brown Ink or Bestial Brown then Brown Ink (I have also used Chestnut and Flesh Wash for more variety). Clothing: The predominant color is green. I used Camo Green and Green Ink over it. On my Skryre units, Red Gore drybrushed with Blood Red. |
