I coated them black, and mixed scorched brown, vermin brown and codex grey on the rats furrs, i used elf flesh i think on the face and tails, then i washed them but i cant remember with what... :P (i did not wash the grey ones though cause they got to yellowish)

I painted my swarms almost black. Slightly highlighted with Fortress grey. The faces tails and their tiny paws (where visible or I spotted) I painted quite light. Lighter than Bronzed flesh but then I applied dirty look by giving them really watered down black wash followed by lightly drybrushing some skintone.

My bases are grey with Scorched brown sides and I thought that brown ratties wouldn't stand out. I'm happy with the coulours but the paint job needs some tidying up. I'll try and get picture of them during next week. The quality won't be good (webcam only) but I'll try.

[edit]: I've been thinking. I should paint the heads black, only leaving the ears and mouth skin. There are not many bald rats. On the other hand if I paint 'em like that then the swarm looses colour. Bugger.

Is writing Dragon Age fanfiction

I painted mine codex grey, and made a few broad strikes of snakebite leather as well over some of them to get the effect of a mottled horde. A few touches of elf flesh with a hint of codex grey in ot on the faces, then I just made a dark wash with burnt umber/black (could be done with beastial brown/black). A very light drybrush with codex grey and some snakebite leather and I've got myself some rodents:

*grins*... aaah, my ratswarms. Well, they were one of the first models I ever painted right after my first clanrat unit (who later got an orange like color for some quirky reason I still haven't found out. Repainted them though).

Instead of a dark colour, I turned the swarms into a light unit. After my white undercoat (yeah, yeah, I know skaven should be dark, but I liked light colours in those days... and trust me, you don't even wish to see my skittle-mice plague monk unit) I put on a layer of vermin brown. Since rats are usually running through caverns and swamps, a darker layer of bestial brown was added to the bottom with some spots of that REALLY brown stuff (sorry, can't remember the name at the moment). The snouts and tails were painted with a mix of elf flesh and dwarf flesh.

A small note on this: this was in the time of the old fantasy swarms, not the 6th ed. critters. This means my rats are quite a bit bigger then they are now.

Here is one of my ratswarms, the lot of them held dangerous boar chariot for the whole game today. Their first game was a success although I lost.

Black undercoat drybrushed with Fortress grey. It was given a black wash. Bald areas, tears, paws and tails are Bronzed flesh washed with something brown and highlighted with Elf flesh and Bleached bone.

Base is black sand drybrushed with Fortress grey and the sides are scorched brown.

I can barely see any grey in the fur so I should have used lighter wash.
